T4E Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 What's the difference though if a clear offside goal is given ala Tevez VS Rovers, and the goal in the Reading Watford game? They were both given, they were both mistakes by the ref. If that game was replayed then i'd want the Rovers V West Ham game to be replayed. Absolutely no difference, the Tevez goal was also a million miles from being just another "dodgy decision". I'm sure I don't need to remind you that Tevez being offside wasn't the only issue with that "goal".

CrazyIvan Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 That was a millions miles away from being just another "dodgy decision". The "it evens itself out" arguement is completely devoid of any science or logic. They may do, or then again they may not. If the officials get the decisions right in the first place then we wouldn't have to debate it. I agree completely. There is no 'evening out' and there never will be. Big clubs tend to get the decisions and little clubs tend to get screwed by the dodgy ones. Referees try (on the most part) to be fair and impartial but they can't be, they are only human and they can't help but be swayed by the crowd, reputation, pressure and any other variable you can think of. Some are better than others but even the best make poor decisions it's just that they tend to make them less often than say Uriah Rennie or Mike Riley. From our point of view, we have been screwed by really poor decisions this season and every season I've ever watched Rovers. It happens. If there were a balancing out of all the poor decisions we've received, we'd win the league again probably twice! Then again there are the decisions that defy logic or any kind of sense, Tevez being one of those. They are the ones that rankle because they are SO bad there is something wrong there. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but that decision is the one that would make me one if I dared think about it too much...
super_arran Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Got a huge game already against Man United and to a lesser extent Manchester City. Both local clubs. There's 50miles between Blackburn and Manchester. Granted; it's a huge game but it's hardly a "proper" local derby.
Hughesy Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 reading were on fire when they played watford, they could have easily let watford walk the ball in the net.i hope they do not go up,cheats should never prosper It it means that Big Club Birmingham fail then im all for it! There's 50miles between Blackburn and Manchester. Granted; it's a huge game but it's hardly a "proper" derby game. Dont get him started Arran...
JC4LAB Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 27 miles actually unless you are a taxi driver of course
super_arran Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 27 miles actually unless you are a taxi driver of course Good old google "Driving directions to Manchester United Football Club 36.8 miles – about 43 mins" That's from setting off from Ewood. fair do's it's not 50 but it's not exactly "Local"
Blue n White Rover Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Absolutely no difference, the Tevez goal was also a million miles from being just another "dodgy decision". I'm sure I don't need to remind you that Tevez being offside wasn't the only issue with that "goal". I'm just using the Tevez goal as an example. If that descision is disputed then every club has a right to dispute a wrong descision against them, right or wrong T4E?
thenodrog Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Great point waggy, can't believe no one else has mentioned that. I'd imagine they have on prestons/burnleys/ brums etc etc boards.
1864roverite Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I am willing to lend my support. Come on BBBBBBBBUUUUUUUURRRRIIISSSSTTTTOLLLLLLL No matter how hard I try I just cannea do it !
deryck guyler's spoon Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 There's 50miles between Blackburn and Manchester. Granted; it's a huge game but it's hardly a "proper" local derby. Blimey! I live on the outskirts of Blackburn and work near M/cr city centre, 24 miles door to door!!
Stuart Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I'd imagine they have on prestons/burnleys/ brums etc etc boards. Talk Sport devoted the bow time show to this scenario earlier in the week.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Taken from Claretsmad forum: '' Around WW1 time, regular crowds of 50k attended all home games - the equivalent of the, then, town population!!!! As Burnley recoils in shock at the prospect of a final day 19,000 'where have you been all season' crowd ,(with an expected 20,000 locked outside!)the hysteria and hype of the occasion becomes too much for many.
rovgers Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 This scenario reminds me of the one that Rovers were in, in 1981. We were playing a team from Bristol in our last game of the season, hoping that Preston did us a favour. Preston f@cked it up and we missed out on promotion. Wouldn't it be ironic if Preston f@cked it up for the dingles!
only2garners Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 There's 50miles between Blackburn and Manchester. Granted; it's a huge game but it's hardly a "proper" local derby. It's 35 actually, but then it's only another 5 miles to Liverpool and Everton so presumably they are massive local derbies as well....
stuwilky Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 That was a millions miles away from being just another "dodgy decision". The "it evens itself out" arguement is completely devoid of any science or logic. They may do, or then again they may not. This is true If the officials get the decisions right in the first place then we wouldn't have to debate it. I reckon officials make the correct decision more often than players. I dont mind incorrect decisions from officials per se, what I cannot stand is utter inconsistency - ideally Id like different officials to make the same decisions regardless of the club/venue, but the least I would expect is the same decision from the same official - we dont even get that.
T4E Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Totally agree with that Stu. Mistakes will happen - but the ones that are on the Tevez/Reading scale should be properly and publicly addressed and explained by the powers that be.
roversmum Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Wouldn't we all love that but I can't see it happening. It's the attitude of head in the sand that is particularly annoying - you san see it happening every week and yet they deny it. Then they come up with some nonsense about having observers in the stands. I appreciate the difficulties in todays fast games but there is an old proverb about learning by one's mistakes. When there is complete denial about having made mistakes in the first place, how can they learn by it? Pah!
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Would be a pleasure to walk into work come Tuesday and see the dingle faces if they blow it today!
Fife Rover Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Would be a pleasure to walk into work come Tuesday and see the dingle faces if they blow it today! Awww don't be rotten SG! We NEED the old rivalry to inject a bit of passion and interest into our humdrum existence in PL. No matter how hard we try to accept Notlob or the Pie Eaters as our rivals, it just doesn't work. They are NOT and never will be any substitute for the dear old Dingles. The sheer pleasure of driving over to the Turf and witnessing the rovers fans outsinging, and the Rovers players outplaying, the hapless Dingles on all fronts (sigh)............will we ever see it happen again? Oh I DO hope so; and this present situation seems to represent the best chance of it happening again for many a year. So, with all that firmly in mind........."COMON YOU DINGLES!!!!!" Ooops, Sorry that should perhaps be re-phrased as (gulp) "COMON YOU CLARETS" Now I'm off to wash my mouth out with best carbolic soap.
gillibrand Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Just think if we swapped places, how would that be to live with!
Fife Rover Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I think Fife might have a few lodgers... All welcome Mum....as long as they are wearing the famous old blue & white halves. However I am quite sure it wont come to that, as we are definitely not going down. Well not this season at least.
cletus Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Hoping the Dingles blow it in front of their own fans!!!! COME ON CITY!!! COME ON PRESTON!!! Staying down forever!!!!
