RevidgeBlue Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I'd rather not have another team from Lancashire in the top flight. We struggle enough for fans, no need to worsen the situation. Ancient rivalries aside, that sums up the commercial argument (which is even more compelling) neatly. Everyone is of the view we're in a general part of the Country area far too overpopulated by top flight clubs yet some seem receptive to our closest rivals geographically joining the party as well!

Guest Wen Y Hu Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 As I live in London, I have can leave a little later. Plus Payton's chopper is picking me up. Was Our Andy in his leathers, then? What a fine sight that must have been! Don't tell me - he's got a claret GoldWing, hasn't he? Not even a proper chopper. And how many of you were on the back? Typical Dingles - can just imagine 'em sayin': "There were 10 of us on Paytey's chopper. All over t' place, we were." Sir Ranulf poses on Paytey's chopper while Paytey is off waxing his leathers
Guest Wen Y Hu Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 If Blackburn were less than 3 hours away from the biggest game that I've seen them in, I wouldn't be on a Rovers' forum nevermind a Dingle one. n00bs. probably 6 hours in a mark 1 mini! Aye, but in a mach 1 mini...
Steve Moss Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Speaking as an observer from rural Arizona, I would think that BRFC would be pleased with a Burnley promotion. It reinforces the obvious, in that Lancashire dominants English football. Sticking a finger in London's eye should be worth something. Much like the outlying counties in Arizona are not particulary fond of Phoenix. And, as others have stated, it would be a chance for the neighbors to play one another. Considering the proximity, its like getting another home game for Blackburn fans. I make the above observations as someone who has not experienced the apparent generational blood feud between Burnley and Blackburn residents.

It is baffling that it looks like four small town teams within a fifteen mile radius of depressed central Lancashire will have gate crashed what is rapidly becoming the world's most ubiquitous sporting coMpetition and one of the richest. Very hard to explain. Being parochial we Rovers are going to have to get used to having to prove our dominance on the field as opposed to just being superior. I am sure we will but it will massively drive interest in Rovers next season because the rivalry is being renewed on the pitch.
Ray-Von Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Although loathing remains deeper than the earth's core, Burnley deserve to be there; Reading were simply dreadful. Burnley beat the Blades fairly comfortably a couple of weeks ago and if Coyle works his gameplan again, they will certainly be up.
SouthAussieRover Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Payton's chopper is picking me up. It doesn't bear thinking about.

It would be great to play both PNE & Dingles in the prem. Not suprised by Coppells exit - it has been coming for weeks.
The Prof. Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I hope they do come up - rather them than Sheffield as it gives us another local Derby. They have the big game mentality this year and I would think will dispose of the Blades. They remind me of WBA though and will need 2 outstanding Centre Backs, a better keeper and a good defensive C/Mid to have a hope in hell of staying up. I suspect the cost of players in the category (it's min £15m) they need though, the stadium and town will put anyone half decent from going though. Not to mention the string round cousin Enoch Kilby's trousers and t' minimum wage!
Rovermatt Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 ***k Burnley. I don't want them anywhere near this league. I'm praying for a Sheffield United victory.
The Prof. Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 ***k Burnley. I don't want them anywhere near this league. I'm praying for a Sheffield United victory. But what will that add to next years fixtures for us?
longsiders1882 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Interesting to see that at least three of the play off teams failed to sell out their home tickets, very suprised, dont know if the fourth Sheff United did. Its a pity Beattie isnt still playing for Sheffield United then at least we'd be gauranteed Burnley not going through, now it seems almost nailed on for the claret clampits. We did sell all our home tickets as it goes (and yes with 200,000 locked out). We also sold the full allocation from Reading of just 2000 - seems barmy after they ahd so many empty seats.
Sparky Marky Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Who gives a toss about that....I don't want the w*****s in the same division as us....
Hughesy Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I do... let them come up and then we will destroy them, AGAIN!!! BRING IT ON DINGLES!!!!
The Prof. Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Who gives a toss about that....I don't want the w*****s in the same division as us.... Trust me - it will make the season if we end up mid table. A proper derby to win!
bennyboyt11 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Financially it would benefit us too as that is one more Ewood packed game in the season
The Prof. Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Financially it would benefit us too as that is one more Ewood packed game in the season Trouble is they'll only let 500 in if I remember the last game we played and they were surrounded by stewards.
philipl Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Trouble is they'll only let 500 in if I remember the last game we played and they were surrounded by stewards. The Lancashire Constabulary might ruin it but the dingles have been relatively good boys since the restrictions were necessary in 2000. The FA Cup match saw all 31,000 tickets go on sale didn't it?
Paul Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Who gives a toss about that....I don't want the w*****s in the same division as us.... What utter nonsense. It's this sort of rubbish that makes the MB so tedious these days. I'm looking forward to two matches against Burnley which will have the town buzzing with anticipation for weeks if not months. Name another match that will be hotly anticipated next season? I mean a REAL buzz, spine tingling, gutting wrenching we HAVE to win. You can't because the PL is such a sterile uncompetitive competition these days I'm hope Burnley get promoted and remain in the PL - slightly below the Rovers.
Sir Ranulf Westwood Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Looking forward to the game tonight, I'm going with Mr Andrew Payton should be a great night. I can see the Clarets edging this one 2 nil, to make it 3 on agg. It will be fun beating the Blades at Wembley also. It should be amsuing to see BFS resorting to hoofing balls up the pitch to Samba when we play you next year. Congratulations on reaching 40 points by the way, I think it's a great acheivement for the current rovers squad. 3 nil on agg, there we go!

Burnley were deserved winners last night and have a good chance of promotion. Maybe a few years of regular derbies can remind people that football's a laugh. It's about banter, not hatred. Then maybe we can all bloody grow up!

Nate Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Seconded (why don't you sensible ones post on here more often?) Because we're outnumbered.
