Eddie Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 If they agreed to pay his wages and gave us a fee as well then it made sense to move Derbyshire on. He was 3/4th choice depending on the situation and was never going to be a starter unless we had a really bad run of injuries, especially as we have the option of playing only one up front or of putting Diouf up there. He's never been an effective starter and he never will be, his bit of pace and headless chicken running can cause problems for the opposition towards the end of matches, but we should still have better striking options at the club. If he's our 5th choice then I think it works, but he has too big of a role in the current team.

Tim Southampton Rover Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 IF we went down, I expect that Derbs could be our 1st choice striker (and one of our most important players) considering that Benni, RSC and possibly Roberts could all end up being sold.
Exiled_Rover Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Roberts is a Championship player. I agree though, Derbyshire would be a starter if we went down.
Hughesy Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 Derbyshire & Roberts upfront if we go down, with maybe someone like Lita as back-up. Frightening!!
rover6 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Derbyshire & Roberts upfront if we go down, with maybe someone like Lita as back-up. Frightening!! Aside from Santa Cruz - which of our other players would be on Prem clubs' shopping lists? Apart from Samba and Warnock, I wouldnt be greatly bothered if we sold anyone else if we went down.
DanLad Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Derbyshire & Roberts upfront if we go down, with maybe someone like Lita as back-up. Frightening!! What's wrong with Lita? Better then Roberts, IMO. Reading suffered in the Prem when he stopped playing. I think there was more to it, though. Anyone care to enlighten me? Attitude, was it?
LeChuck Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Unless I've misread the tone of Hughesy's post, I thought he meant it would be frighteningly good at that level? At least, that's what I thought, probably because it's also my opinion.
rover6 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 No, I think Hughesy did mean frightening as in "extremely worrying". However, for the Championship, Roberts, Derbyshire and Lita would be very good. Maceo Rigters might even come into his own.
BRFC1995 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Aside from Santa Cruz - which of our other players would be on Prem clubs' shopping lists? Apart from Samba and Warnock, I wouldnt be greatly bothered if we sold anyone else if we went down. nelsen would interest the likes of newcastle and the other teams with garbage defences. stoke will sign anyone over 6ft hull, boro and sunderland would sign anyone willing to live there. emerton, pedersen, and anyone else who is a current international would interest any desperate manager on deadline day. the ones i'm sure we are stuck with for the duration of their contracts are Dunn, Robinson, Grella and reid. as no chairman would sanction a move for any of them as there is no value in it. and between them i expect we are paying £130k+ a week in wages, hopefully a clause that reduces that if we go down as none are close to value for us.
costakiau Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Matt scored the winner tonight, it extra time, for olympiakos against PAOK (my team) in the quarters of the greek cup. PAOK had nine men at the time.
RibbleValleyRover Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Derbs goal on the second video http://www.olympiacos.org/index.html?lang=en#/Article/25588/
USABlue Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 and were left with roberts and his rubber clogs. Derbs would have slotted that chance away, but would he have actually been able to hold off the defenders and create it in the first place, a bad miss by Jason, not as bad as his one at Sunderland but still that would be 4 extra points had he taken those two chances.
rover6 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Derbs goal on the second video http://www.olympiacos.org/index.html?lang=en#/Article/25588/ What a typical Derbyshire goal. He truly is Rovers' answer to the post-injuries Michael Owen - anonymous until he toe pokes/nods a goal.
costakiau Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 scored the last two for olympiakos in a 5-0 win. The side they played would struggle in the championship so i wouldnt read too much into it. Not sure what minute he came on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt94yw3Ytoc

His first goal is typical Derbs goal. His second was a beauty!
67splitscreen Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 After todays missed chances, it's time for a return to Ewood for Matt IMO. BS says RSC could be out for a couple of weeks yet. We need a third striker, to change things around in the last 20 min or so.
Bobby G Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I doubt we have an option to recall him. Furthermore, it was a joke to let him go without signing any replacement at the same time.

Roberts tries, he is a hard worker even though he is not the best. I would not mind seeing Derbs back in action for Rovers paired with Roberts.

Well we bloody well should have, if the club agreed a loan, with no call back in our position, someone's has a lot to answer for.
Shabani Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 If Olympiakos have paid us any kind of money for Derbs loan move then there won't be a call back clause
67splitscreen Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Can's say I remember any mention of a fee. Where's Nicko when you need him, need I ask, probably in the board room down the road.
1864roverite Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I think people will be a little frustrated or angry to know that a fee of around £2.75million has already been agreed to sell Derbyshire, I am certain this was reported just before he left.
