 Chill out it's only 0.2%! To put that into perspective...for it to cost you an extra pint's worth of alcohol you'd need to be drinking 25 pints of Stella.

did my best sat night

I think I read in the sunday papers just gone (cant find an article anywhere) that they are thinking of introducing a 3/4 of a pint for those that dont want a full pint but want more than a half - how times are a changin

It's 2/3rds of a pint. Apparantly it's popular in Australia because it has less time to get warm. Dunno how that applies to the UK though.

Anyway it's time to get back to basics and drink good old English Ale.

'What's the matter lager boys? Afraid of tasting something?' :D

I have tasted "something " plenty of times and as everyone knows love the black gold, however guinness and real ale have caused my gout to be painful over the years and after seeking lots of advice and stuff found out what was causing the problem .Since drinking lager the gout doesnt flare up half as much so ther ya go :P

Have you tried Allopurinol? Sorted me out.

Here we go with the old fellers 'that 'lager's for little boys and puffs'. Well imo ale is like 'maidens water', it's for wusses compared to a good lager. Not that Stella is a good lager, it's quite the opposite. You should try a change of poison Al..... you've told Abbs to take some drug for gout when it appears all you need to do is change to drinking lager. I know which I'd prefer. ;)

After many years of being a real ale head I've been rather charmed by a couple of decent lagers recently. Nor Fosters or Carling or anything daft like that, but a wheat beer (Hoogarten) & Starpromen.

What do you recommend Theno?

Wheat beers are the death of me lately, I think I'm addicted to them (Does that make an alcy?). Loads of good German ones, but I have to say one of my favourites is the Grolsch wheat beer, around £1.80 for a 500ml bottle in Morrisons. And Krombacher Weizen, which is on draught in the Malt And Hops is superb, but as it can be a tricky pint to pull he tends to hold back on the gas and can cause it to be a little flat sometimes.

al/gord.....ive tried allsorts for it.allipurinol is actually what i use now.But every now and then it flares again, thats why i dont touch "dark" beers anymore i try and reduce the risk.Ive had it years and tried cabbage water ,nettle tea, dandylion tea and seen specialists as my chrystal level in the blood is extreme high.Ive been know to have to use crutches when its at its worse(ie.every toe ,foot, shin and knee(on both legs at once)).But as anyone knows i drink owt and have drunk owt.:P

Hoegaarden & Staropramen......two decent beers imported in from europe. If i remember right, Hoegaarden is a belgian beer & staropramen is a czech drink.

I`ve not read the Stella links, but i know the only reason they would make it 0.2% weaker is a tax thing. The breweries pay tax duty on alcohol percentage not quantity of beer.....meaning every bottle/can/keg to leave a brewery has less tax paid on it.

I seriously doubt the prices in pubs & supermarkets will drop accordingly though......thus making more profit on every drink sold.

Not that you can get it in many places but I like a bottle of Tiger when I see it. Very easy to go down and for some reason I never seem to get a hangover from it either

Going back to the original topic I sampled some of the new 4% Stella and thought it was horrible.

Conversely I really like the 4% Becks version. (Becks Vier)

Allopurinol has no side effects and I'd rather have the gout than drink that high alcohol, no taste eurofizz that the youth of today have been conned by the advertisers into drinking.

you'd seriously rather have gout?

It wasn't that bad in my case. Just a pain in my big toe if I walked too far. And I play golf! No problems now.
