From Simon Amstell's blog:

Hello,

Tonight's 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' was due to feature a comedian and broadcaster who has recently let himself and his country down.

The damage he has done is frankly irreparable and in order to punish him and anybody who likes his kind of louche filth, this tainted episode will not be shown tonight.

We are however very grateful to be able to broadcast something more appropriate and slightly less entertaining for these difficult times.

Guests will now include James Cordon, Gabriella Cilmi and Germaine Greer.

Thankyou.

Goodbye.

I doubt this will be the end of it. Probably all intentional, and as long as Ross's "chat" show is canned, it cannot be all bad.

Brand gets publicity for his C4 show, and goes off to do movies.

Ross gets christmas holidays

Sachs Jr becomes more of a porn star

Fawlty Towers is repeated

........... Fawlty Towers is repeated

Might even get a long overdue new series! 'Flowery ###### / Tawny farts' with Basil and Sybil in charge could now be an Old Folks Home. Manuel with a Zimmer would be OK but I doubt Polly will be as attractive these days! As for the Major.......

Connie Booth will be into her 60s now.

But I agree she was very attractive as Polly. One episode in which she wasn't wearing a bra under her uniform has remained burnt into my memory for some reason...

a bit ageist and sexist mr L.Im shocked!!

As of January 2005, Connie Booth is working as a Psychotherapist in North London, England. My understanding of the situation is she is no longer involved in "show business" so I would assume she wouldn't welcome people trying to contact her because she did Fawlty Towers more than twenty-five years ago. One newspaper article quoted her as saying she has "washed her hands of the show".

In May 2007, Connie Booth "robustly refused" to take part in a BBC Radio 4 programme reuniting the main Fawlty Towers cast to talk about Fawlty Towers.

the above is cut and paster from a fawlty website.

Wasn't CB & Mr Cleese (apparently) rather intimate at the time, or was that an 'urban myth' as they shared writing credits?

I can how she would be a bit of a sort to the more mature generation though. She was rather saucy as I recall.

BTW I think the Major is on the board at Ewood.

John Cleese and Connie Booth were husband and wife when they wrote Fawlty Towers together. Each show took more than 6 weeks of hard labour to write . They later divorced which is probably why she isn't interested in any sort of FT reunion.

Cleese must like American women (or is a glutton for punishment) because his next wife was also from the US.

Whilst I'm glad Russell Brand has lost his radio show, this whole story has been so utterly over cooked. No doubt 85% of the 'outraged moral majority' who have jumped up and down have been whipped up into a frenzy by the newspapers, who have sought to put the boot into Ross, and Brand for a while. It amazes me the capacity the general public has for being offended on someone else's behalf. Everyone has said sorry, some people have lost their jobs, and all the while there has been an earthquake in Pakistan and trouble in the Congo, two stories that are apparently less important than the troubles of the BBC.

And the glee that Sky news has been trying to hide over this is contemptable. It is taking 30 minutes out of every hour as that egotistical middle aged woman with the brownish hair talks to Kelvin McKenzie, a former editor of The Sun revel in the evil BBC's discomfort. I don't know when Mr. McKenzie was editor of The Sun, but I bet they went to work on damaging the reputations of many people when he was there. And both these numbskulls have suckled from Mr. Murdoch's teet, a man who owns FOX News, which loves to spread lies, exaggerated stories and seeks to do many hatchet jobs in the USA. FOX News was at the forefront to the march to war in Iraq, as it reported the 'dodgy dossiers' and fanciful tales of the dangers Hussein posed as truths whilst painting those who sought a more cautious line, or those who saw through the lies as 'unpatriotic terrorist lovers', or apologists for tyranny.

1. The popular news has never been reported from a global perspective, it is always from the man in the street's perspective. That is the way of teh World.

2. "No doubt", eh? I'm not sure what enables you to speak with such certainty? Are you sure they needed whipping up? The licence-payer pays Ross' and Brand's salaries. perhaps they didn't like what was being done in their name?

Hopefully it is all over now. But the BBC really does need sorting out, someone needs to grab hold of it, give it a good shake, cut out all of the dross, the top-heavy managerial structure, the grotesque and undeserved pay packets, and get the licence fee down.

Because I for one really object to the licence fee, it's money for old rope. 90% of what the BBC puts out is absolute garbage.

As it is, the BBC is living on borrowed time. Maybe we can all start watching TV through the internet, I don't think detector vans can pick up on that.

I'm not sure if you're joking or if you genuinely don't know when Kelvin McKenzie was editor of the Sun, but, if you excuse the pun, you're not far from "the truth".

Kelvin McKenzie was editor of the Sun between 1981 and 1994, infamously putting this out in April 1989 -

The sins of Messrs Brand and Ross don't even come close to this guy.

I genuinely didn't know he was in charge. I was 8 when Hillsborough happened (the day after my birthday) so it was a bit before my time. I knew he was one of the highest profile people who edited the Sun. I have heard some story about a newspaper setting up a gay soap actor by picturing him giving money to someone at their door who was a stooge for the paper. Lo and behold, it was front page news that the soap star pays rent boys. Is this a true story, and which paper was it?

That Kay Burley is increasingly annoying to me. You can tell she wants to be on some US 'news' network giving it the big I am.
