[Archived] Cricket (tests, Odi's And 20/20)

Recommended Posts

We need a topic to cover all topic's related to cricket (the great sport)..

I know I am going to regret this (as Oz is fighting to save the third test against India) but lets here it...

On Australia V India, I am little disappointed that Jason Krejza and Beau Basson were not included in the squad... Don't get me wrong Cameron White is a decent allrounder and has been thowen in the deep end, but is not a frontline bowler..

On the 20/20 in WI, this is a absolute waste of time for all concerned (regardless of the money) and Stanford is joker.... <_<

BTW - Brad Haddin is a muppet and is not the answer to Australia's wicketkeeper situation. :angry2:

I need to add Nathan Hauritz & Dan Cullen to the list above, as I really do rate them as frontline bowler's.

On another topic.. WTF! - give it a rest Harbhajan! you're never going to be the greatest nor will be!

Harbhajan's view on rascists remark

I find it funny, that the most vocal about this issue, is the same one accused of all the problems.. funny that! <_<

Been quite impressed with Johnson of late. When he first came into the Aussie side a few years back – I believed he was simply another Tait- all pace and little else. He seems hold his pace back now and through in the odd 90mph + delivery.

As for White/Haddin neither are test standard imo especially for Australia. It looks more likely that Warne will play next year as the Australians front-line spinner. A huge ask even for Warne.

I really do believe that Australia’s time as undisputed NO 1 is coming to end- there seems to be a lack of talent coming through especially in the all important spin, wicketkeeper and fast-bowling departments. That said who will knock them of there perch? as India will seemingly be faced with the same mass-retirements that Australia are still suffering from.

The next two years look more intriguing that any out the last two decades- If only the Windies could muster up a competitive side.

You speak the truth, on so many levels Bazza...

I'll be very surprised if Warne gets a call up.. I don't think that Australia, will ever call up Warne again, even if, the cupboard is bare on spin. :(

I am so looking forward to the Ashes next year (yes, yes - even if that means England grab the series victory!). :o:)

On the topic of the Windies.. there is talent there - Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Galye, Marshall, Bravo, Benn, Ramdin, Taylor, Powell & Edwards. It is just the case that the selectors need to be persistent & consistent with the core....

We don't have Sky but were visiting friends last night who do and I saw the first 4 wickets go down, got home after a 20 minute drive and eight wickets had fallen. This morning I see England have been utterly thrashed. I enjoy watching cricket now and again but I'm not a fan, if you get my drift. I don't want to upset England fans but I think this thrashing is exactly the result that was needed. You cannot create sport with money, this game was always a nothing match and the performance and result has proved this. No excitment, no interest, no passion, no play. The whole thing was ridiculous even down to the crowd that looked like a 10,000 extras had been bussed in to fill the ground!

Only one loser in this result - Stanford.

Anil Kumble has announced his retirement with immediate effect at the age of 38 - Official Confirm

A great gentleman of the game and a brilliant spin bowler... B)

Third in the all time wicket taking list, with 619 wickets at an average 29.65

Btw - Please don't think that the circketing world, will breathe a sigh of relief at this news, now that India have lost one of their best all time bowlers.. Amit Mishra looks like a perfect replacement for Kumble in partnering the spin attack with Singh.

It looks increasingly likely that the specialist spinner Jason Krejza, will be selected for his debut, in the 4th test in Nagpur on Thursday. IMO, Australia needed to make this decision from day one in the 1st test. Nothing against Cameron White mind you, as he is a decent all-rounder, but he is defin more of a batsman than a bowler.

It’s a pity that the CA didn't just swallow their pride and pick Symonds from the outset, regardless of the fact he 'went fishing'... Australia looks significantly weaker without him and his talents (both bat & ball) would have suited Indian pitches perfectly. He also would have been supported by both Clarke and Katich in the partime role, in lieu of a specialist frontline spinner.

My surprise so far in this four test series is not 'Midge' Johnson, but Simon Katich... Personally, I hate the guy, but credit where credit is due. Nice one Kato.

Next Aus vs Ind test starts tomorrow and Oz must win, to draw the series and retain the Border/Gavaskar trophy.

It has been confirmed that the little turd, Ghambir has been banned for one test. (nothing against his ability, just his attitude) Its also not the first time he has intentionally made contact with an opposing player. He did the same thing against Afridi less than 12 months ago

I love the fact that the BCCI dont accept the appeal decision made by Andrew Sachs of th ICC.

Who the f**k do BCCI think they are? :angry2:

Appeal rejected by BCCI

Aussie, you forgot to mention that the pitch, according to reports, is going to be a "batters paradise".

So no Border/Gavaskar trophy for Australia, unless the Indians implode.

You're right dave, but I am living in blind faith on this one. ;):D

Personally, I think we will struggle getting the 20 wickets anyway, the pitch being a 'batters paradise' (I hear the pitch got approved for tests by the ICC on Tuesday) just makes that effort a little harder... :(

Two things for me are key on this one - need a front line spinner playing (Krejza) and Ponting needs to win the toss. <_<

Always a very tough task going to India and winning, even at their cricketing peak we only did it once.

Great to hear the cries for the days of domination and no talent coming through ect ect from everywhere else. By the looks of it if we are going backwards the rest of the world seems to be doing the same.

Be interesting to see if India pick Gambhir, and if they do, what the ICC reaction will be.

India has given a debut to Vijay. If they had picked Gambhir, they would be creating a very bad precedent to other nations, in not accepting his punishment. You can't challenge the ICC on issue's like this.

India has also won the again toss! (F**K!!!!) :angry2: I have heard that Ponting only calls 'heads' on the toss... That's 3 in a row now. :(

Interestingly, Jason 'Crazy' Krejza has been picked along with Cameron White.. Stuy Clark has been dropped. Very surprised by the fact, that Australia is going with two spinners (although White is not a frontline spinner) on this one... I guess Aus want to keep the batting depth in place, considering the order starts to wobble at 6, 7 & 8. <_<

The day that White and/or Haddin score a ton in the baggy green, I will bloody speechless!! We really need Symonds back in the team..

EDIT: Forgot to mention, last test for Sourav Ganguly and maybe (if they win the series) of VVS..

Great to hear the cries for the days of domination and no talent coming through ect ect from everywhere else.

What do you mean neekoy? Can you expand on that statement please?

Yes, Aussie, had the Indians picked Gambhir (as they intimated they would) it would have seen all hell break loose with the ICC. Good to see they have taken the correct route as it's pretty unlikely they'll lose this test. I can't see them imploding given a batters wicket.

edit: Yes, Symonds is needed asap, but I think that he really didn't want to go back to India. Next test, he'll be back.

Good to see Moises getting a few, as well as the Pakistani born kid, he's cracked a few tons in the first few games of the club comp.

Ahh Moises! I still have high hope for the boy. :) Whats the deal with Bracken.. why is he not playing at the moment.. injured?

Haven't heard to much about Osmani (is that his name)?

EDIT: I feel sympathy for Symonds.. I dont't really blame him, as CA was toothless in getting Harbhajan punished, for his racist remarks. I believe he was told to just drop the issue and move on.

Don't know if I can really be bothered anymore to be honest mate.

Australia lose one test IN India and already the doom and gloom merchants are out in force, not only in overseas papers but also in ours.

Actually saw someone the other day comment that Australia can't win another test unless Ponting is sacked as Captain. Not just in India, but ever.

India have had their golden generation, there are some quality quality players coming through but for all of sudden everyone to say they are going to be the dominant force is crazy. They have had to be TBH probably 4 or 5 of the best batsmen in the last twenty years come through and in the scheme of things achieved little.

Before we write Hadden off I think we need to give him some time, at least wait and see how he plays against the kiwi's, if he fails then so be it, we have a very capable keeper batsman in Luke Ronchi waiting for his chance.

Got to agree in part with you Neekoy.

Australia is rebuilding and trying to maintain the high level they have set themselves. yep, they will slip a little, yep you'll see some players come in and disappear quickly, but it will be because someone better has arrived.

Haddin, I expected a bit more from him, he's a bloody good batsmen/wicketkeeper when on song. Maybe he's trying too hard; but Ronchi is the next Gilchrist.

What we do need is a consistent spinner, when that will arrive, I'm not sure.
