Will be very interesting to see what happens if we lose at Wigan.

will purse strings be loosened?

will people be given their marching orders?

will there be general panic and mayhem or will it just be complete apathy?

My betting would be the latter Bryan, as was the case after the Liverpool defeat.

It seems for some that when we lose we simply have to accept it and can do nothing to stop the rot.

There is no field is there?

Indications are that if there was any mileage in the Sam/Souey rumours, they turned their nose up at a lack of finance, and I can't see a host of top class managers beating a path to our door without significant January funding either.

If those two have indeed rejected us (rather than manouevering for better terms) then the smart move I think would be to trawl the gathering ground of the Coca Cola Championship for any prosepective new manager.

Don't disagree, but one of the main criticisms of Ince is his lack of top flight experience.

Would that not just be swapping like for like?

Not at all, there are many managers in the Championship with top flight experience -

Mick McCarthy

Alex McLeish

Steve Coppell

Dave Jones

Neil Warnock

Chris Coleman

Paul Sturrock

Paul Jewell

Glenn Roeder

That's an extremely short-sighted view to suggest that experience in League Two and the Championship is the same. I bet you wouldn't be so blazé about grouping the football league into one big lump if we were down there. There's a whole world of difference between those divisions.

There is a lot of historical revisionism going on but

1) Friedel was not let out of the door until Robinson was signed - FACT

2) Ince told JW that Emerton was his Bentley replacement - nobody seems to be disputing that and mosdt of the press carried the story at the time

I thought he said that he didnt have enough time at the club to decide would replace Bentley. Further to that, i seem to remember John Williams coming out and reasuring the fans that a replacement for Bentley would be signed, and that any replacement would be as good if not better then Bentley!

From those Coppell, McLeish and Coleman look decent. But then the first two have already been relegated from the prem....

If that was the only list of choices open to Rovers who would you pick? Both Mick Macarthy - dismal record in the prem and Alex Mcleish - did ok in scotland in two team league - are having good seasons - up to now. Coppell did well with reading for a season in the prem - but not able to sustain it. In my view Warnock and Joe Kinnear (not on your list) are very simular. Coleman has had experience with Fulham but didn't do much. It is a very limited list, though all are more experienced than Ince who has no experience, well up until now. Everybody on that list hold the relevant coaching badges.

Alex Mcleish may be worth keeping a progressive eye upon in my view - but that is only because everybody else on that list has a failed record at some stage in their career.

I am not sure anyone promised the replacement would be better than Bentley. But clearly we did try to sign someone - Pennant was looked at as was the Espanyol winger who we tried to being in on deadline day.

Ince's faith in Emerton did seem misplaced. The guy struggled on the right wing for Hughes and Souness but showed great attacking quality from right back last season (even if defensively he was a bit suspect) and also performed well in a holding role in a 4231. He has however done okay on the right this year. Being relatively dangerous. Problem is our side lacks so much attacking threat it makes Brett's lack of imagination look rather good because at least he has pace and a decent delivery.

John Williams told Paul Ince that if he wanted to keep Bentley he would back him.

Ray Matthias said that we can understand Bentley wanting to play for a better team [i wonder what he thinks about those words now, with hindsight]? and we couldn't stand in his way. He followed that up by saying we would have to sign someone better.

Paul Ince said that we had Emerton for the right wing spot if they couldn't find a replacement.

McCarthy would be excellent in my opinion, as would Coppell. I like Eck but he lost the plot at Rangers a bit towards the end. Dave Jones is a manager I like, Coleman would be OK. I could live with Warnock and I think he would do well on our budget. I could be persuaded to take a chance on Jewell as he was great for Wigan, Sturrock is an excellent manager in my opinion but not good enough at Prem level. Again though, he does well on a budget. I'd steer well clear of Roeder.

Every single one of them would be an improvement on what we have now.

I'm personally rather excited about being linked to Avram Grant...

I am not sure Grant has the personality or tactical nous to really sort us out. He did well with Chelsea but they are a completely different kettle of fish. He has about as much "experience" of dealing with our situation as Ince does, we need someone who understands relegation battles. I would be disappointed if we went for Grant.

Also he looks exactly like GreenBack from danger mouse:

Got to say this gave me the first smile of the day...

Best Of Friends

Nice to see that while friend of Mediawatch Alan Nixon is on a Blackburn messageboard trying to justify this exclusive from Sunday in The People - 'Paul Ince wants five games to save his job as Blackburn boss...but will be sacked in the next 48 hours' - he took the time to refer to Mediawatch as 'some football365.com f***wit'.

We love you too Nicko.

I note that the internet cowards have still to put their names on their stories - or accept my £1,000 charity challenge.

Now there's a shock.

What's everyone getting worked up about that ridiculous blog in the Mail for?

It's well known he didn't have his badges before he came to Rovers, hence him agreeing to do them as part of his contract.

Complete non story.

not a complete non story as I have stated previously the board have grounds for dismissing Ince on misconduct grounds

Pretty obvious then that if f365 follow this m/b that closely, that some of their stories will originate from what is said on here, rather than their site being independent and reliable corroboration of rumours on here etc.

Unless you've just got a stalker nicko!

Emerton has improved as a winger - but that is maybe from watching Bentley in front of him and with playing at right back. Out of curiosity has Emerton ever played up front? I am not suggesting he should play there, just wondering if he has ever done so professionally. Because he does have pace which is what Rovers lack.

Got to say this gave me the first smile of the day...

Remind us of the challenge again. Does Mrs Nicko know your risking a £1000 of her money in a credit crunch?
