EwoodGlory Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 “No club wants to fall out of the Premier League but for a club such as Blackburn, maybe it would be more significant for them. I'm sure it won't happen, though, because a couple of back-to-back wins will very quickly change the outlook.” Confirming what we unfortunately already know

Tris Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Somebody go along with him please, otherwise Williams will believe the fans think everything's OK. Speaks volumes actually. 200+ pages in this thread, so over 4,000 posts, probably 3,000 of them one way traffic. To add to previous threads. Strangely, the people creating all the noise don't want to find the time to speak directly to the chairman of the club about their worries and gripes. It's all mouth and no trousers on here. PM me by midday tomorrow if you want a chance to challenge the chairman to his face.
Ewood Spark Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I'd just like to say that in JW we have a top man at the helm ... TRUST his judgment and get behind the team ... and that means get behind Paul Ince. I was lucky enough to have a chat with him yesterday evening over a pint (with Tris also from this board). What really comes through is that it is that being Chairman of BRFC is much more than a job for him ... I get the impression that when Jack hired him it may well have been on a purely business footing ... but there is no doubt in my mind that in the intervening years he has been well and truely bitten by the 'Rovers bug'. He is as desperate as anybody on this board that things turn round and it is obvious that he has faith in his man to do the job. We as fans should play our part to ensure that we are all behind the WHOLE team.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Has anyone looked at our fixture list compared to a few of the sides at the bottom: I haven't included Spurs and West Ham because they are 5 points ahead of us. The teams listed are only 1-3 points ahead or behind us: West Brom's next five fixtures:- 1 point behind us, currently in 20th Place: Sunderland (A) Man City (H) Chelsea (A) Spurs (H) Villa (A) Our next five fixtures- Currently in 19th place: Wigan (A) Stoke (H) Sunderland (A) Man City (H) Fulham (A) Sunderland's next five fixtures:- 2 points ahead of us in 18th place: West Brom (H) Hull (A) Rovers (H) Everton (A) Middlesborough (A) Newcastle's next five fixtures:- 3 points ahead of us in 17th place: Portsmouth (A) Spurs (H) Wigan (A) Liverpool (H) West Ham (H) Thoughts on our festive run in compared to some of the sides closest to us? On paper I think we have a decent run in, the City game is the standout game with Hughes coming back to Ewood for the first time since his move. City seem incredibly inconsistent winning one week and losing the next. The Sunderland game could be a six pointer if results go a certain way. If we can get some decent form going we could pick up some points. West Brom have some tricky matches coming up, Chelsea, Spurs and Villa in a row is tough. Newcastle have some tricky fixtures, but with Kinnear and the dogged spirit he has put into his side I can see them picking up some points over their next five fixtures. Sunderland have the obvious no manager factor, but fixture wise I can see the picking up some points. They have a few games that could be draws in Boro, Hull and West Brom.
Jordan Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 NO. Samba twice - once for dropping him for United away in cup and once following Chelsea game. Roberts (following sunderland game), Peter (Had his contract terminated, despite being a better player than Treacy), Vogel (Not sure what happened there) Friedel - He went purely because Ince was actively looking for his replacement for this season, Friedel was told of Villa's interest and that he was free to leave. Friedel believed he would end his career here. I cant see how that was Friedels choice. Check it out if you wish... speak to Friedel away from the cameras and he will confirm that story. That is certainly not the impression I got when speaking to him on pre-season.
Amo Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Hughes contradicts Ince, backs Williams Ince's remarks were paranoid claptrap anyway, and thoughtless when you consider his own predecessor was of the same ilk.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 The way we are playing none of this matters- we are the worst team in the league at present. West Brom are below us at the moment but they play better football than we do. I can't see a way out, the tipping point was the Sunderland game for me. The history of the game is littered with teams who stuck with a manager too long and paid the price, we are just the latest. The situation is retrievable , just, but with our management team we're obviously intent on leaving it too late. Williams has nailed his colours to the Ince mast, he'll be walking the plank as well if we go down.

I wouldn't say I want to "challenge" him but as someone who started off in the supportive camp and is now extremely disillusioned I'd love the opportunity to hear first-hand why JW thinks where we have ended up is acceptable. PM on the way...

My preferred choice was always McClaren - Wally with a brolly for England maybe but a good club manager and still think he'd have done an excellent job for us.
Alan75 Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Morten Gamst Pedersen, the Norway midfield player, concedes that the forthcoming programme will be hugely important. “We’ve got Wigan, Stoke, Sunderland, Manchester City, Fulham, Newcastle coming up, so there are good opportunities and we did well against Wigan last season,” he said. “Even if we get a point at Wigan, we have to start just picking up things and then you get on a roll.” Good result !!!! 5-3 defeat if Im correct.

My preferred choice was always McClaren - Wally with a brolly for England maybe but a good club manager and still think he'd have done an excellent job for us. and wally without a brolly for Boro. Middlesborough fans thought he was the most tactically inept manager ever and could not believe it when england made boss. Keep taking the tablets

I think it's a great run in. But I'd feel better if we had won an odd game or two recently. I don't really think we've come close over 90 minutes for months though and have a real problem even imagining how we can get more than a point or two out of it. Then we'll be worse off after the transfer window as all our competitors look to be ready to spend. Our home form gives me the jeepers.
The Prof. Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 You don't seem to understand. If this "bad patch" becomes relegation as seems likely there will be no Rovers return next time and we are quite likely to be in the same position as Charlton next season. See also Leeds, Forest, Southampton and Coventry. In those circumstances I would expect Williams to do the decent thing and resign. But he would probably dither over that decision too. Jim - Bearing in mind the ownership and funding of the club is out of JW's hands what should he or anyone else for that matter have done differently? Just sacking him is not solving our problem - what would anyone else do differently? I have met John Williams and he is one of the lowest paid Chairman in the Premiership. Some people on this board will earn more than him. The key question is WHAT COULD HE HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY? I await your list.
Hughesy Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Some horrible facts ahead of the next game: Blackburn will equal their longest winless sequence in Premier League history if they fail to return with all three points; defeat would leave them one match short of equalling their longest ever losing run in league football. Completed eight league games since a clean sheet; conceding three goals in each of the last two Picked up half as many points as were accrued after the first 16 games last season; 26 points then, when ninth - 13 points currently The only club without any remaining players to have figured in at least a part of every Premier League match this season.

My preferred choice was always McClaren - Wally with a brolly for England maybe but a good club manager and still think he'd have done an excellent job for us. You must not have followed the link through. To a far greater extent than signing Fowler, Maclaren would have made us a laughing stock to the nations football fans and been a PR disaster. A poor and unintelligent manager whichever way you view his career. I'm suprised at your support for him, you are not normally one to suffer fools gladly.

The past 9 months have been one slap in the face following another.
Hughesy Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Tris I want to speak to JW, but iv already got a meeting planned with him, Greg Coar & Simon Williams anyway. If we are still in this same predicament then, I will no doubt raise with him my concerns about the ongoing drama that is Blackburn Rovers. As for you banging on and on about people not wanting to meet him to discuss there worries - what is the point?? There is nothing he can say (other than Ince is gone with the next loss) that would improve my opinion on the situation. We are in a terrible rut, we havent won in 10 games and Ince shows no sign of improving our position. I supported him at the beginning and was happy to give him a chance until we lost at Pompey, following the game however I felt its time for him to go before it gets too serious.
Sysagent Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 p.s. heard last night Dunny is currently in light training and will be making a comeback in "two weeks" From the BBC Website:- "Blackburn midfielder David Dunn is available again after recovering from an Achilles injury" Not going to say told you so! ;-) Perhaps this is the pivotal moment now as Dunny is back in the squad, hopefully he is match fit enough and will add the creativity needed...
