No, Jan's right. It was a bad thing to say.

Because in football, like politics, one crass or flippant remark (or photo in David Milliband's case) stays with you and will come back to haunt you.

Compare Ince with the professional manner Hughes always conducted himself in front of the media. Or Souness.

Ince's first press conference was never the place for ill-judged humour, especially after the coaching badges fiasco.

In fact, this is what his press conference should have been all about: professionalism, dedication to the job, ability, deisre.

Not juvenile cracks about taking Rovers into the bottom three.

It's completely irrelevant.

At the time I thought it was quite witty and lightened the mood of the Press Conference.

It's all about the performances and results. If we were flying high in the table no-one would have given that throwaway comment a second thought.

Likewise comments about his suit, eyebrows, "you know's" or being caught on camera once spitting on the pitch.

Not me personally, to my mind that's about the latest point IF results continue to go poorly that still leaves time to realistically do something about it.

I think another four bad results would seriously stack the mathematics against us. If we assume that this season is going to take a higher number points to secure safety then it may well be that 43 points is the survival target. At the moment we need another 30 points from 24 matches. However, 5 of those games are against the 'big four' and our record against them so far this season would suggest a minimal return from those games. That could leave us with 19 games from which to get the points. If results are poor against Portsmouth, Wigan and Stoke then we could be looking at needing between 27 and 30 points from 16 games. Suddenly, whoever is manager is faced with finding almost title winning form to secure the points needed from the games available.

I am beginning to believe that our survival is going to rest on one or two other clubs falling away so that we can scramble clear. At the moment it's looking like it's going to be very tight with regard to survival.

If the club are going to stick with Paul Ince, and I suspect that they will, they must give him the funds to bring in players who will get us out of this mess. I really do believe that we need experienced Premiership battlers rather than players who are untried and untested in our League. If Paul Ince remains he is going to have to adopt a more pragmatic approach to his football and grind out results rather than continuing with the style he has adopted so far.

Agree with all of that. I think the reality will be that the Club will probably stick with Ince and I am not enthused by any of these triallists coming in at all.

That really worries me. I just dont see how a couple of young Egyptian lads are what we need to get us out of this mess. To me the back four should always consist of Warnock, Ooijer and Nelsen. Simpson needs to be sent back to Utd and replaced with a no-nonsence, experienced DEFENDER to fill the right back berth.

Villanueva needs to be sent back. Our midfield needs an experienced "muck and bullets" midfielder to supplement the energy of Emerton or Andrews.

Pedersen has had his chance. I'm not convinced by Treacey but his crosses at least generally reach the 18 yard box. We need a right winger to supplement Treacey and both need to be told to get wide and load the boxes with crosses.

Finally Santa Cruz should have his aerial and all round ability complemented by the speed and finishing prowess of Derbyshire.

These should be givens injury and suspension permitting.

Nothing fancy, not rocket science.

How about a cheeky bid for a right back who has recently lost his first team place to a younger rival and is a pal of the boss. Gary Neville anyone? How about a return for Lee Carsley?

To be fair, he also stuck by Kidd after he took us down.

We were already half way down when Kidd arrived. Your mate Ince has single handedly took us to where we are now and will single handedly take us down if JW doesn't get the guts to admit that appointing Ince has to be one of the biggest ball ups he could have made...

It can't be written down in a more simpler (and frightening) way than that.

Someone print off the above and stick it in front of Williams' face.

We need to act now.

The only "fact" in all this, is that the longer we continue with Ince getting nowhere with performances/results, the very, very much harder it will be for any new manager to keep us in this league. Every single loss makes it FAR more likely we will be relegated. The board are gambling, unless they absolutely are convinced that he will turn things around - in the next game - even. The board need to be decisive about this, one way or another.

If Paul Ince remains he is going to have to adopt a more pragmatic approach to his football and grind out results rather than continuing with the style he has adopted so far.

After stating that he wanted us to play Brazilian football initially, Ince changed his mind prior to the Fulham game saying it’s all about getting a clean sheet. He also (bizarrely) suggested after that match that getting a clean sheet was more important than the win.

I know we usually support our managers as much as possible and to the hilt. However, fans discontent will grow further if results continue to be negative. I am sure this will be taken into account (?)

As I have stated before, there have been too many poor/weird decisions from the management team so far this season. Whilst we have had a bad injury list (which should be taken into account), we should be doing a lot better.

On the flip side, if I am trying to be positive, a couple of wins and things will look a lot different (with regards to our position in the table).

I'm guessing but I think they will be decisive den.

I think they'll make a decision to stick with him.

Which of course makes it look like they're doing nothing.

They should be saying so then Rev. I know there'll be comments about "vote of confidence" and all that, but keeping absolutely silent on the matter isn't going to help anyone.
