jim mk2 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 He's come out with another cracker today: Lowered VAT by 2.5% to stimulate sales, but he has increased fuel duty... So goods that are cheaper due to the lowering of VAT will actually cost more because of increased transportation costs. People must be thick if they are falling for this complete tax con. But not as thick as people who think it is that simple .... And your solution to the global economic crisis is ? Also, do the Tories actually have an economic policy because Osborne the Oligarch and Call Me Dave aren't saying.

Eminently sensible move. The UK needs to cut back on fuel imports so with fuel prices falling there was plenty of scope for reinstating duty holidays which had been given in the past. Nothing to do with a tax con or people being thick.
American Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Yep, when the price goes up too high, people want government support, but when they go back down they don't want to give back. Same with the corporations and profits/sales.
Al Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Maybe I have read it wrongly but my understanding is that the rise in fuel duty is set to just offset the reduction in VAT. So petrol prices at the pumps should remain the same. Please correct me if I am wrong.
