I use to watch Gallagher alot in the reserves. He had a phenominal goal scoring record and I thought that he was a real prospect. However. he seemed to reach a plateau, never pushed on and unlike Derbyshire in Greece never set the world on fire when out on loan. I have long since given up on thinking that he could be part of our future plans.

Gallagher looked pretty good when he first came on the scene. In fact, I liked him a lot. However, he failed to live up to expectations or improve as a player and subsequently dropped out of the first team squad, before failing to set the world alight at two individual Championship clubs where he was given a regular role in the team.

He's had so, so many chances and has proven over and over again that he isn't good enough. It's a shame, I'm not sure what happened to Gally.

How old is Gally now??

Last chance for Gally.

It shall be interesting to see if Sam can get the best out of him or if he is still the same big headed idiot that thinks he has already made it to the very top of the football ladder.

imo Gallagher's failure to realise his potential is cos he is similar to the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz.

perhaps we should give him whatever the Wizard gives him then ( a clock was it?) and he'll get all motivated! :D

25 in one month. SHould be reaching his full potential anytime soon

He ought to have found his natural level by now... the next six or seven years will be his 'best' ones.

Championship fodder I'm afraid. Barnsley beckons.

I was reading a week or two ago about Stephen Ireland and how he decided it was time he stopped mucking about and got himself sorted out.

here it is.

Methinks a few others could take a look at Stephen's resolve and do a bit of sorting themselves out too.

Perhaps no-ones figured out yet how to really motivate Gally?? Maybe Sam will send him to the head guru, to figure out what makes him tick. Don't forget we've never had one on the staff before. I'm sceptical about it all but if it saves us a few million it'll be worth it, he's got fantastic technique.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't think that there is any special reason why Gally hasn't made it, other than he just isn't good enough. He broke into the first team and looked like a good player with good potential. However, he never really developed and, after some good form, kinda disapeared.

I don't believe that this has anything to do with motivation - if God knows how many thousands of pounds a week isn't motivation enough, then what is? I fully expect him to disapear off our radar soon enough. Unfortunately, we might have to wait another season for that to happen.

With some of the dross about in this league there's no doubt at all in my mind that Gallagher has enough talent to play in the Prem. Anyone remember his slide rule pass to Stead for the goal when we beat United at home? Tugay-esque.

The problem is application, hopefully he's found it down on the coast.

Oh he's technically good enough, he's a great talent, I think it was Wenger who looks at players mentality first!

As kids, if you get them early enough, they dont pick up the bad habits and they continue on the right lines, maybe Gally got some bad habits and is unable to move them but, and I have seen evidence of this with players over the years, Dougan was one, once you get the head right, you have a player. I am not saying this will happen in Gallys case but its worth a try and if the Guru can get him on the right tracks, we will have one hell of a player>

My mate; whose a city fan was telling me about this.

Apparently after city's 8-1 defeat against middlesborough on the last day of the season about 2 years ago, he was upset that no-one seemed arsed that they'd played so badly. So decided then to spend the following summer working on his fitness and over all physical strength.

I'll try and find the story

But, for Ireland, it wasn't the lowest point of his football career.

May 11, 2008, on the A1 between Middlesbrough and Manchester. He is in his girlfriend's car. 'It was the last day of the season and we had lost 8-1 at Boro,' he remembers. 'I didn't get the team bus. I got Jessica to drive me home and I thought to myself: "This can't carry on. My career and my reputation are not right."

'After that game we didn't even get a b******ing. I was so depressed at seeing that people didn't really care. People were laughing. It was the worst moment of all for me.

'I decided that wasn't a route I was going down. I didn't want to live my life travelling home from big defeats with a smile on my face. I just felt like I had to change something after everything that had happened. So, the next day I started training. I went up to the hills in Glossop with a martial arts expert, training from 7 to 11am. I dedicated my whole summer to working with this guy.

'I came back super fit and wanted to be number one in the team.'

Do we definitely have a sports psychologist on board at Ewood now?

Strikes me that Olsson and Gallagher both probably need a thorough re-wiring whilst something that happens to JR when he sees an empty net needs sorting out.

I would guess that after a chat with Diouf and Benni, the psychologist himself will probably need professional help.

I once went on a management course years ago and was taught that money is actually a de-motivational tool rather than a motivational one. There's a lot of truth in it too.

1. Tugay performed those regularly not once.

2. Great pass but fortunately Gally did not have time to think about it..... think about it.

I've played a couple of times against Jason Roberts' brother Otis - the problem in front of goal appears to be genetic / hereditary, so not sure a shrink is going to fix it :o

Ol' Cyrille didn't do too bad in front of goal (his uncle) but I know what your saying. Did you play at the back? You could have grabbed a breather if his brother ran through for a one on one then!
