LeChuck Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Thinking of who other clubs around us have appointed in recent times (Martinez [Wigan], Megson [bolton], Hart [Pompey], Kinnear/Shearer [Newcastle]) makes me think that we would really, really struggle to get anyone else in that wouldn't be a major risk. We're possibly more unattractive now than we were when Allardyce was appointed too - the finish of 7th was still relatively fresh in the memory and we had no idea about the amount of money the board were planning to keep from transfers at that point.

roversmum Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 I was one who didn't want Allardyce last summer but after a few months of Ince, boy was I glad to see him walk through the door.
OscarRaven Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Sort it out Sam. Nobody better for us but he seems so weary in spirit, tactics and demenour at the moment. What's he gonna get like when the dark nights start closing in?
Hi Mack Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Sort it out Sam. Nobody better for us but he seems so weary in spirit, tactics and demenour at the moment. What's he gonna get like when the dark nights start closing in? When we get Emerton Reid and Nelsen back we will have more presence about us! This will suit Sams style of play, the midfield is Powder Puff at the moment! Think we will see an up turn in results soon!
powder_13 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 He has been limited some what in his transfer allowance, but better be careful than be West ham....! I also think once Kalinic gets up to speed with certain central figures returning that we will be getting the results we deserve.
thenodrog Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Not as sad as the person who Shillito refers to as an illiterate cretin or the only person attempting to defend him. Over to you Yes you are. No doubt you are currently busy filling Tris's inbox chock full of obscene and unbalanced ravings as you do mine when the mood changes....... or do I mean moon? Donald there is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that you are a total whiptop.
adopted scouser Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Waggy - am I the only one on here who finds it strange, that you of all people can refer to someone else as 'lardarse' I'm just crious, not looking for a fight as you've got form
mark1875 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 And the Kalinic news appeared on here on July 31st. You lose. oh so your moving the goalposts now? i thought we was talking facts of when players came because you said kalinic was already here? not rumoured to be here you should of said we was going off rumours? or is that because you cant accept factual puts you wrong
RovertheHill Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 So it seems like I owe Spencey, Waggy and Bucky an apology, and everyone else I thought was anti-Allardyce, as it appears nobody wants him sacked

John Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Some appear to be enjoying sticking the knife into Big Sam. I can understand it to a certain degree, but do think it is unfair. Certainly, some of the criticism is personal, in that certain posters simply don't like him. However, in my view, he is the best man for the job and taking into account his track record, think it would be very difficult to get anyone else of his quality managing our club.
bob fleming Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Here's my twopenneth then... No ones happy with the points total. No ones happy with the way we set our stall out against West Ham. That must surely be a one off and Sam has already tried to explain that in the press regarding the lack of forwards at our disposal (all five of whom should be available for the next match) and of course the heat (?!). But if we start with one up front against Wolves then fair enough, I can understand people having a go. We need to win at home. We should also have a brand new midfield to pick from for that game. Bert, Reid and Diouff should be back. Add that to Dunny (90 mins!, ran round like a good 'un - please stay fit David), Nzonzi, Big Morten, Eddie Van Halen and (quite possibly 7th choice) Andrews. You can possibly understand why the manager let 38/39 yr old Tugay go (although surely a role somewhere at the club couldn't have been out of the question?). How many midfielders can we afford?! And thats excluding Hoilett, and possibly (although I've read nothing to back that theory up) Salgado. I thought the idea was to reduce the wage bill? And there was I, and most of you, still hoping we'd get one in on deadline day! We're clearly a team in transition. Our manager was been given a budget of approx minus 15 million to spend. I'd look a bit grumpy an all if I was him, but I doubt I'd carry it off to such aplomb. The jury's out. I'm confident Sam / Allardyce will do just fine. Let's try and avoid these bloody transfer windows. They don't help at all. Neither does trying to pass judgement after three league games and a cup match (which we won).

tashor Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Sam's got a squeeze box he wears on his chest And when Rovers play at Ewood, he never gets no rest 'Cause we're playing at home and the line-up's not right Sam's got a squeeze box, fans never sleep at night Well, the fans don't cheer and the players can't sleep There's no escape from the pressure in the whole damn league 'Cause we're playing at home and the line-ups not right Sam's got a squeeze box, fans never sleep at night Sam goes in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out We're playing at home and the line-up's not right Sam's got a squeeze box, fans never sleep at night Sam goes, squeeze me, come on and squeeze me Come on and tease me like you do I'm so in love with you Sam's got a squeeze box, fans never sleep at night............................................................
thenodrog Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 You are quite wrong as usual. What cannot speak cannot lie and my in-box proves that I am most definitely not wrong.
thenodrog Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 But if we start with one up front against Wolves then fair enough, I can understand people having a go. We need to win at home. I'm not too bothered about 1 or 2 up front. The game is 11v11 and thats that. 1. Unfortunately Roberts is weak in the air and not best suited to playing with his back to goal and holding the ball up. The tactic would work much better with RSC but that of course is impossible on more than one account. 2. Also Dunny has lots of quality but he is no Stevie G or Frank Lampard is he? He has not the pace and power of those two and he was ploughing a lonely furrow v WHU because in the first half the rest of our midfield played way too deep and offered little support. One up front can work well but only if the midfield do not ball watch as our lot did but actually get forward in numberfs in support of the striker and keep pressure on the opposing defence.

I agree Theno - but our lot were so far behind our "front two" - i.e. Roberts and Dunn - that it was laughable (well it would have been laughable if it wasn't BRFC) - this was in both halves. Dunn definitely isn't a Gerrard or a Lampard - if he was he'd have gone and we'd have another £25m in the bank - but he's the best we've got as an attacking central midfielder by a country mile. (NB Come to think of it he's probably the only attacking central midfielder we have - but there you go! )
SouthAussieRover Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 What cannot speak cannot lie and my in-box proves that I am most definitely not wrong. Wrong as usual. How do you cope with the reflection you see in the mirror each morning?

It is a shame the WHU game had neither in Rovers' starting eleven. It has to yet to be seen whether when all ours unfit players are fit whether Rovers can adapt to it.
SouthAussieRover Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Put down the chardonnay and go to bed Donald. Said Salgado's rentboy
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I believe the 4-2-3-1 formation using the following players (obviously allowing for fitness) Salgado - Givet - Nelsen - Chimbonda -----------Emerton -- Nzonzi ---------------- Hoilett -------Dunn -------Van Heerden --------------Kalinic----------------------- Subs: Samba, Mccarthy, Di Santo, Grella, Diouf, Brown, Pedersen This would provide the pace on the wings to break, creativity with Dunn and 2 athletic players in Nzonzi and Emerton also able to drive through the middle. Think perhaps Di Santo would be the best option for the forward role but seeing as Chelsea can't sign anyone, he's likely to bugger off in Jan - so best play our boy. Whilst the wide boys are perhaps lacking a little physically, having Chimbonda and Salgado behind makes up for that in my opinion.
spencey7 Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 oh so your moving the goalposts now? i thought we was talking facts of when players came because you said kalinic was already here? not rumoured to be here you should of said we was going off rumours? or is that because you cant accept factual puts you wrong What are you talking about? Kalinic was effectively here, as was Di Santo, prior to Ellington's trial. Allardyce was looking at a 5th striker as he thought we needed one, but ultimately did nothing. Just like the left-midfielders. And the centre-midfielders. (Changing his mind and trying to oust Andrews at the last minute was never, ever going to work. We had an opportunity to get rid of him for good money (and to simultaneously weaken a league rival) and we missed it. Allardyce is to blame.) The fact it's taken 4 days for you to think up a response tells you everything about your post. So it seems like I owe Spencey, Waggy and Bucky an apology, and everyone else I thought was anti-Allardyce, as it appears nobody wants him sacked I'd sack him in a heartbeat. And I'd pay an exorbitant amount of money to be the one to deliver the good news. We need rid of him immediately, before any more of his anti-football poison infects our club. It'll take 5-10 years to recover from Allardyce, if we ever can.
tony gale's mic Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 So how does a manager sign all these players with a minus £15 million transfer budget then? Tell me..I'm intrigued..

Do I detect an attempted Ince cover up story emerging from the numpty corner? You sound like a Tory MP who knows they are soon to be in power and is dreading picking up the poisoned chalice already. Put down the chardonnay and go to bed Donald. Funny stuff alcohol........ it works fine for some but totally screws up others.
