Miker Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Awesome, you've made a real fool of yourself there Miker. Read over those posts again. Slowly. So you're saying INTRICATE passing and INVENTIVE attacking play = SLOW, ACCOMPLISHED game? Some definitions for you: accomplished - highly skilled; expert slow - moving or proceeding with little or less than usual speed or velocity intricate - complex; complicated; hard to understand, work, or make inventive - apt at inventing, devising, or contriving Maybe instead of just shooting down every argument I make against you, you should actually try to make a valid point and not display your continual ignorance of the game and the English language. At this point in time, you have absolutely zero credibility in everything you say, which is nothing more than childish banter and ignorant ranting.
Hughesy Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Couple of interesting stats. 4 games played - 73 attempts at goal 4 Games gone – 5 conceded Last season – 4 games gone – 11 conceded (Including 4 against West Ham) Are we changing our approach?? 2nd from bottom in the bad boy league – only 3 yellow cards……2 of which have since left (Gallagher & Warnock) Attendances are up to an average of 25,950 so far (Games including West Ham & Wolves amongst them) Players under 21 playing a match – 4 – compared to 5 already this season

philipl Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 1 up front it is then. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...t_the_strikers/ That really is a fantastic tribute to David Dunn.
Hughesy Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 To be fair - Its not 4-5-1 though. When we attack its more like 4-2-4 with Diouf & Pedersen pushing up & Dunn in the hole behind Roberts. I think Dunn will however be more heavily monitored by other teams in the next few games.....which will probably see strikers get opportunities to get on the pitch and get a chance to prove themselves. Our squad for once is starting to look strong.
luredbycheaptickets Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Can a team that has 73 attempts at goal in 4 games legitimately be described as negative? It seems ridiculous to me.
tcj_jones Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Wow, 74 attempts at goal is crazy-good!
mogster Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I know. It makes you wonder why people thought we needed a creative midfielder! How much more do you want to create.
rebelmswar Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Can a team that has 73 attempts at goal in 4 games legitimately be described as negative? It seems ridiculous to me. You will soon find out that the argument will be twisted. Some are working furiously on it this very moment. "73 attempts and we have only scored 4, this is a result of hoofball at its worst. We need to pass the ball into the net, not hoof it toward goal" Or something equally tired.
AggyBlue Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 "73 attempts and we have only scored 4, Jeez that's shocking. I didn't think it was that bad
rebelmswar Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Jeez that's shocking. I didn't think it was that bad Well played sir.
waggy Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 BTW Waggy, you might find that you like what you see going on at Ewood, They really do play some good pass and move football. Its not hoofball all the time mate. You had better get on a game or two otherwise you aint gonna get a Burnley ticket i aint going agianst bumley, far to frightening for me
Boz Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 As an initial Big Sam sceptic I just wanted to make a couple of observations. Hoof Ball - this was the reputation he came with, along with a pragmatic style of play. In reality I must say that on the whole it has been nowhere near what I feared, this fact is borne out by an interesting statistic I read in yesterday's Observer, whereby we are only mid table in a "hoof ball" chart. On the whole a fair degree of passing on the floor, e.g. mid-way through wolves game where we had umpteen passes that led to a couple of attempts on goal. Yes, ok there is the long throw/set piece play whereby the object is to get the ball into the danger area whereby the vast number of goals are derived. Compared to Hughes's last season in charge, which in my opinion was very uninspiring and devoid of excitement at home, and Ince's cavalier approach with no compromise to style over substance, which would have resulted in relegation. Transfer activity & squad of players - it was apparent to most at the end of last season that this needed drastic surgery especially to fringe players who were clearly not up to the mark. I feel again that he has made great strides at addressing this, through manoeuvring as much as he possibly could with a limitation of funds, plus long term injuries to senior players. So again overall appears successful, despite fears of a reputation in the transfer market of a more...dubious nature.
tonygreenbank Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I recall when Sam was at Bolton when asked about his direct long ball style of football against Chelsea replied that all teams play the long ball;when Chelsea do it its called lomg range passing! On Saturday Chelsea beat Stoke with a long throw into the box! The Sunday Times said that against Wolves Rovers played some good incisive football and were good to watch;today David James said that Bolton`s winner was "typical Bolton" and that one game he will not watch is Bolton v. Rovers as it will be a "horrid game of football". I wonder how much James has seen us play. I suspect he is picking up on stereotypical assessments of our play. All teams vary their style during the course of a game. Big Sam said on Radio Rovers that he was happy that we had won and won in some style. That doesnt sound one dimensional to me.
waggy Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 good point about chelski,i was killing myself laughing that the bbc did not show any of stoke's long throws and low and behold they get done by one.the 4 games we have played this year have only produced 4 points, and like it or not i can only see rovers reverting to lardarse's % football over the next month,we have a terrible run of games coming up and i can see us being pointless till we face the dingles

47er Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 That really is a fantastic tribute to David Dunn. YES---its been a while now since anyone suggested that we get him off the payroll as he's a drain on resources.
Hughesy Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 and like it or not i can only see rovers reverting to lardarse's % football over the next month,we have a terrible run of games coming up and i can see us being pointless till we face the dingles Im not doubting we will be keeping it tight and just looking to take 1 or 2 opportunities that fall our way - but You cant get anything against the bigger teams by trying to attack them - it just doesnt work. 4-5-1 against the bigger teams will work - I for one will be very suprised if we dont get anything before the dingles game.

I seem to recall us attacking manure quite a few times with some success, on the flip side we have had some spankings too. Maybe people prefer to loose with gallantry as opposed to winning, or drawing, with cowardice. Those who choose to run away, live to fight another day and all of that. There must be a happy medium.
Steve Moss Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Maybe people prefer to loose with gallantry as opposed to winning, or drawing, with cowardice. Those who choose to run away, live to fight another day and all of that. Charging the machine guns is generally a loosing bet. Pragmatism, usually in the form of flanking and/or a rolling artillery barrage/air strike (i.e the "long ball"), is generally the better way to go.
tony gale's mic Posted September 14, 2009 Author Posted September 14, 2009 Interesting stat from football365...since Sam's appointment, we've only lost twice at Ewood.
