Something is seriously amiss with BRFC.

I mean, Sam has got Rovers playing pass and move football - NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

The club have reached a record amount of ST Holders for eons - NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Crowds have increased for the upteenth time - NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Rovers are a club with no debt to speak of - NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Rovers, annually, are the worst team in the Sportsmanship league, today sees us in 7th spot - NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

There has been a wholesale positive change all around the club - NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Charging the machine guns is generally a loosing bet. Pragmatism, usually in the form of flanking and/or a rolling artillery barrage/air strike (i.e the "long ball"), is generally the better way to go.

When battling a more powerful army all of those have disadvantages.

Hiding behind your front lines relying on artillery brings upon massed frontal assaults, and you need to have at least some parity with the attacker, (Burnside at Fredricksburg) or steam-roller like attacks that gradually break down your fixed position (Grant at Petersburg).

Your flanking methodology works best for quick weaker units with higher elan than the enemy. (Lee at Chancellorsville)

Until we have that elan flanking/counter-attack is a bit risky.

Best to attack aggressively and continuously, making the enemy themselves believe you are stronger than you are. (Jackson in that valley).

They cannot be called prolific either.

They can certainly be called inventive and that was what was deemed to be the problem with our midfield.

Our strikers playing like blind men in a tit-grabbing contest is something altogether different.

Do forgive me waggy, but I don't understand what points you are trying to convey in your responses to 1864roverite's post. Care to elaborate?

It will come down to "Lardass" is the devil and we are his coven.

The Messiah was wrongly crucified and everyone who says otherwise is a Judas.

Ticket sales, better crowds, increased atmosphere and pretty good football are all due to heathen magic.

(With added ;):P:mellow::rolleyes: and less puctuation and spelling)

well he thinks lardarse plays good football, sorry not in my eyes

he thinks lardarse is responsible for the season ticket bonanza, wrong it was the price that made the difference

the club since jack died have alway operated on a policy of little debt

sportsmanship wins no medals but a place a europe, happen thats how we will qualify

wholesale positive changes, bloody hell if we had not beat wolves sat the fans would have been after blood

I can see where you're coming from actually.....But at no point does he mention Sam in the 'ticket' points, only in the footy bits. I don't think we're playing as much long ball as you seem to think though. Yes, it's an option, but why would Sam pack the midfield for the defence to hit the ball to Roberts? He packed the midfield to out-pass Wolves, which we did VERY well, even having a period of 27 passes (I counted...how sad).

In terms of 'no debt policy'....we have no debt due to the sale of players. Otherwise we would be in SERIOUS debt. 'Sportsmanship table' point is (I assume) a reference to the media's labelling of us as a bullying team, the table shows otherwise. Yes, all positive changes. Your ability to make everything sound like the apocalypse astounds me, my friend.

for all those people moaning about Sam, would you rather being waching championship football then watching premiership football, because if we didn't appoint sam last season, thats were the club would be.

Sam has his own way of playing football, it may not be pretty on the eye , but i could not careless as long as we keep playing our trade in the top flight of the best league in the world.

I know. It makes you wonder why people thought we needed a creative midfielder!

How much more do you want to create.

I did mention that our biggest problem, was not in midfield. Its converting those chances, that have become a problem

It seems bizzare that we have probably our two best strikers (McCarthy and Kalinic) on the bench, whilst Roberts plays up front. N'Zonzi and Emerton sit on the bench, whilst Andrews and Grella get starting spots.

Sam is thinking far too much about the system he wants to employ and is picking poor players to fit that mould, when he should be looking to put our best XI on the pitch and finding a way to make it work.

Good point. We need to back the manager, sacking him is stupid he has proved his worth. But he needs to stop this experimental crap, this I know best bull, this selective refusal to try and win tripe and give us something to back.

SORT IT OUT SAM

I wouldnt suggest sacking Sam. But if he's going to make comments like the ones a couple of weeks ago, he has to expect them to be thrown back at him when things go as wrong as they did today.

Rovers are in desperate need of more fans, are doing their best PR wise to try and boost the clubs profile to bring in some much needed cash, and he comes out with crap like that. I hope Williams read him the riot act - but I doubt it.

Sam's comments to the Beeb:

"I think we were poor to be honest. We've got no resilience away from home.

"We let ourselves down on set pieces and gave Everton an easy victory. We could have stopped two goals from a corner and a free-kick.

"We're not getting the results we need to avoid struggling this season.

"It's a disappointing result and a disappointing performance but its one we need to get over."

Basically he isn't admitting any faults on his part.

I'd say that is realistic and honest. It also shows Sam is worried.

Mr E. he uses the words 'we' which says he takes as much blame as the players. There is no distancing himself from them so your assertion is incorrect.
