CrazyIvan Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I hope the board ordered JW in at 5. I hope they ordered the tea lady in a 4:30 to make the brews...
T4E Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I hope they made Andrews sleep on the pitch Sunday night.
gumboots Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I hope they made Andrews sleep on the pitch Sunday night. Well if they did that they'd have to make Salgado clean the toilets post match for the rest of the season.

bubblerrovers Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I'm fully behind Sam but was thinking, Could we even afford to sack him? we're so skint we'd have to stick with him
LeChuck Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Who would we get instead of Allardyce, even if we could afford to pay him off? Look around the Premier League, clubs are really struggling for quality appointments; Sunderland (even with all their money) ended up with Bruce. Pompey have Paul Hart, Bolton got Megson, Wigan have gambled on Martinez. It would either have to be an appointment like Fulham (bring in someone experienced who has been away from the PL for a while) or West Ham (young, totally inexperienced manager but potentially exciting). We wouldn't have a chance of getting someone like Laudrup, Ten Cate or whoever else people have mentioned, especially on the back of a transfer window in which our net spend was +£15 million or whatever it was. Someone desperate for a job or someone desperate to prove themselves at this level would be our only option. Shearer...?
mellison24 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Di Matteo proving his worth at West Brom, but he'll stay with them I think. Souness maybe. Shearer maybe. How about Tugay? He'd be the type who is sensible enough to get a decent backroom team in. (Which was Ince's main flaw imo)
PAFELL Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Anyone noticed how little I post anymore, Big Sam and his football bore me. I hate the way he has us playing, the signings look crap, the footy is predictable and boring, OK I've seen one game this season but to be honest I don't think I want to watch anymore if that is how we play. Young Hoillet is a bright spot as is Dunny but FFS long balls over the top against Everton, give me a break. Don't expect us to do much this season and I certainley don't expect us to beat the Dingles. Although I have yet to view a live game as I live in the south uk, this season. I have seen enough via sky's football first to believe Rovers will do ok. The football, the team are playing is a surprise to me - especially after so few games - under Sam. The games, everton apart - rovers had played some good football and not hoof ball. I think you should watch, especailly if you are a rovers supporter. Good or bad football I don' t really care I just want Rovers to do good.
Ozz Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Anyone noticed how little I post anymore Yup. Shame, you and a few others too I can think of.
Tris Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 A much needed win tonight, and it'll be a pleasure to enjoy the draw for the last 16 on Saturday for the third season running. We need to take some of tonights luck into Saturday now, because Allardyce doesn't take all the credit for this. Forest outplayed us for 35 minutes, hit the woodwork, had a penalty saved, and had a certain goal cleared off our line by their own player. Salgado was a liability for the second time in 3 days, and Kalinic looks nowhere near good enough to play in the Premier League. Despite his flukey goal, McCarthy does look good enough and far better than Roberts. Nzonzi stated a case as did Emerton. Allardyce will hopefully stay true to his word, and make some much needed changes for the game at Ewood on Saturday.
thenodrog Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Someone desperate for a job or someone desperate to prove themselves at this level would be our only option. Shearer...? Surely even we are not that desperate. Shearer does not possess management potential imo. Di Matteo proving his worth at West Brom, but he'll stay with them I think. Souness maybe. Shearer maybe. That reads like you are hitting the keys too hard and sucking a lemon as you type Tris. Am I correct?

Does Sam take any credit? 10 changes, a tricky tie dealt with and into the next 16 with many of our best players not playing (Dunn, Samba, Givet, Robbo). Did what was required...unlike Burnley!

Miker Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 People are being completely unrealistic about Sam and the expectations of him. Managers that come in to save a club from relegation need time to stabilise the club as well. Just because we avoided relegation, doesn't mean that the team is on course for Europe now. People are jumping on Sam's back so early in the season it's ridiculous. How many times under Moyes have Everton started poorly, only to go on and finish high up the table? Sam made it clear when he took this job that his first task was to avoid relegation, second was to stabilise the club and then they would look onwards to see if they can push on for Europe. It's been made clear that we don't have the financial muscle as some clubs in the divison. There are probably about 10 clubs with very strong squads and money to spend. We don't really have that luxury, but that doesn't mean we can't do well. People are talking about October and how we're unlikely to get any points, but then we fail to see that there's a November full of winnable games. I just want to ask fans on here to stop jumping the gun so much, give Sam some time because we just can't afford to sack him right now and it will achieve little even if we did. Sam needs to work out his best tactics and his best first-11 before we can truly judge him. Up til now, he has been forced to deal with a long injury list and now that he doesn't, he still has to test players who have only just returned from injuries or are not match fit. I only watched the highlights of the Everton game and it looked extremely disappointing, but if fans are going to go into our next home game ready to pounce on the manager and the players then it's only going to make matters worse.

The problem with waiting 'till November is that by then we may be last, the player's confidence may be shot to pieces and the "winnable games" become mountains as well. This is why the first 5 of this season were so important - so we have something to hold on through the October beatings. And as for Sam and his expectations...the man left Bolton because he wanted to "win trophies". I'd wager it's quite the hard pill for him to swallow now that he has to concentrate his dreams back only to survival.

Hughsey, had you seen the goal when you posted this? It was a 25 yard ball into the box which evaded everyone and ended up in the bottom corner. There was a certain amount of luck on it going straight in. Having said that, we need to look for positives because it's easy to see the negatives at the moment...

Having said that, we need to look for positives because it's easy to see the negatives at the moment... I think that right now, we need a bit of good fortune. As they say, a goal is a goal no matter how they are scored. You have to give Sam credit, perhaps not for the formation at times but the young players that are emerging. I really cant remember when last a manager at Rovers, had the balls to give the young lads a chance. I dont always agree with Sams tactics, but for me he has done well to get some youth to prospur. The academy looks to be in good hands, with the new guy that was appointed. The players need to sort themselves out, because irrespective of tactics and formations, if you want to keep your place you got to perform.

Having said that, we need to look for positives because it's easy to see the negatives at the moment... But according to Allardyce that's how they practise taking that kind of freekick, because of the chance of a deflection into the net and because if you get it just inside the post it's unstoppable anyway. The only thing is having a player with the ability to find that far corner - step up Mr Benedict McCarthy

Why don't we all have a whip round and provide the club with an annual 'I avoided relegation' Trophy for BRFC managers?
