This could have gone on a number of threads but this match report in the Times has some very interesting comments by Steven Warnock which highlight how tough Sam has made Rovers to play against.

My view of the Everton game was not that we were particularly bad but that we conceded three horror goals through rank bad mistakes at the back.

Interesting to hear Sam talking about a change of personnel and of system for the Arsenal game to make sure we frustrate them. I don't know whether this is bluff and counter bluff ahead of next week but I am very much hoping there will be plenty of post march moans from Arsene Whinger.

You could take a day off though and give credit where it's due? I was very sceptical when I saw the lineup and wondered if it was possible to score less than nil because I couldn't see us getting goals at all and I thought Villa would, It was worse after they scored as we were then one down and no sign of goals but then it all changed and from Samba's goal onwards we were never really troubled despite the ref doing his best to give us nothing and Villa's attempts to foul us off the park. Apart from when Ashley Young was falling over, I didn't notice him. Villa's pace didn't show at all for most of the game. We caused them more problems than they caused us and the manager must have done something right because although he thought we should and could hold out for a draw, the players wanted to do better than that and really went for it without leaving stupid gaps at the back, even when we were down to 10 men. I don't really see what the manager could have done better yesterday.

Exactly. Why didnt anybody pick up on the fact that Villa were the dirtier team and did several cynical fouls when they could stop Dunn & Co.

The team did fantastic - hopefully the european games will take some zip out of Arsenal and allow us to over power most of their play. The key to the next game for us is simple - stop Van Persie and dont give Fabreglass time to pass it around!

Mr. E... put some glasses on next time you watch a game. Grella has had a number of good games for us, including the one against Villa, it was a moment of stupidity to get sent off, but it in no way means he is not good enough for the team or the league. Andrews while not great has done a decent job for us and has worked hard both in attack and defense, so to replace him and Grella with 2 attacking players is absolutely ridiculous.

Kalinic is nowhere near ready and Hoilett while good can only either play in place of Diouf or as a second striker. At the moment, he is not better than Diouf and he does not fit into our 4-5-1 formation to play as a second striker, which position would go to McCarthy anyway.

I'll be interested to see if Gamst plays next game... it's possible that Sam will put Diouf on the left and play either Emerton or Hoilett on the right. Reid will likely come in for Grella as well.

Anti-Allardyce idiot here..........

Winning does not disguise the fact that we are still hoofing it upfield, playing for long throws and corners, then looking for a lucky rebound off Samba's backside/old fella/head if we're lucky.

The scary thing is that Allardyce in interviews gives the impression that this is the best 'football' (if you can call it that) we can look forward to.

If that's the case, the shirt's in the shredder. Sea-sea-seasiders..........

Actually, no we're not hoofing it upfield. We're playing a lot more entertaining football than that.

I don't get that. First half there was quite a lot of hoof ball, i admit, but the second half saw a huge amount of intelligent passing football orchestrated by Dunn and Diouf (the first 20 minutes after the break we utterly dominated). We passed better during that period than the majority of the reign under Hughes.

After Grella was red carded I thought we would be up against it but we continues to play decent stuff.

Obviously one swallow does not make a summer but it was highly encouraging. We need to build on it, and you do wonder what would happen if Dunn got injured, but it was entertaining and promising for the future. Also we played decent football against Wolves so there is a precedent there too. Hopefully we can make a habit of it and pick up the points we need.

The way I look at the game is simple. Did I enjoy it? Did Rovers have chances? Did Rovers look the best team? The answer to all 3 was a resounding yes.

The atmosphere was also hot - so someone else must of enjoyed it too.

Singe - I dont get people that complain about long throws, balls into the box, corners etc - you play to your strengths do you not?

Interesting comment.

Did we play better and create more chances by hoofing everything into the box (as during the first half)?

Or by play coming through David Dunn on the floor?

I have to admit that when we let them score that early I almost switched off as I couldn't see anything ahead but an afternoon of frustration. glad the players didn't feel like that. I couldn't say I enjoyed it because this was Rovers and even at 3 nil up I'd be worrying in case a few bits of bad defending let them back in, but I loved the result, and when results go your way any doubts about tactics or play get pushed onto the back burner - spurs last season anyone?

How the hell can anyone moan about the style of football after Saturday? We were excellent, we showed we could play direct, along the ground, in to feet, over the top, out wide, the lot. We merged all these 'styles' together against a Villa team that had won 6 in a row to great effect.

There was a 20 minute period just after half time where we were fantastic, Diouf especially.

If we'd lost on Saturday I would still have been pleased with the way we played, so after a win how can you be moaning?

People complaining about the "style of football" clearly did not watch the match on saturday. We played excellent football, particularly in the second half. I watched expecting to see long ball after long ball and was instead treated to a beautiful 70 yard cross-pitch pass from N'Zonzi and some fantastic link-up play from Emerton and Dunn (in fact, Dunn was a highlight all afternoon).

 LIKE LARDARSE'S COMMENT ON SATURDAY WHEN HE SAID HE HAD SETTLED FOR A DRAW,BUT THE TEAM HAD NOT,AFTER ALL HE KNOWS BEST

he WOULD HAVE settled for a draw.

meaning he didn't really see us getting a win with 10 men against a good Villa side with 20minutes to play.....

to be honest, who did?

Our massed ranks of mysteriously agenda'd individuals, surrender monkeys and know nowts get right on my tits! If you want to whinge about the Villa match then sod off and find something else to do on a Sat afternoon cos it's obvious that nothing BRFC do will ever suit.

Granada's 'Locks and Quays' once featured a narrow boat full of Mancs on the way to and back from the match at OT which we won 1-2 with two from MGP. The general comment on the journey in was that they were going to stuff us and on the way back Alex Ferguson was a know nowt manager who should have retired after Barcelona and needed replacing....... Oh and Giggs was crap too.:lol: This is exactly the spoilt brat mentality that appears to be spreading to our club.

 LIKE LARDARSE'S COMMENT ON SATURDAY WHEN HE SAID HE HAD SETTLED FOR A DRAW,BUT THE TEAM HAD NOT,AFTER ALL HE KNOWS BEST

Gotta say at this point that I much prefer listening to sense from Lardarse at Ewood rather than infantile nonsense from Mardarse in Rishton! :P

"In the end we have gone down to ten men at 1-1 and where I'd have been more than happy with a point, the lads weren't today and got their just rewards with a penalty and Dunny comes up and puts it away."

Whats wrong with that Waggy? Common sense - we are playing a team who have won 6 in a row, including beating liverpool - its 1-1, surely you too would be happy to take a point?!

Against most teams most others would be glad to get away with a draw with 25 mins or so still to go once you are down to 10 men, let alone a team we haven't beaten under their current manager, who are in good form and have pacy strikers.

Oh very articulate.........

The point is, at least Blackpool are trying to play football - if you remember, that was what Sparky had us playing - with players like Nelsen, Pedersen, Samba etc.

We are playing stuff that John Beck used to produce 20 years ago - even the Dingles are playing it on the deck.

And getting stuffed away from home. WE do still play a lot f hopeful balls but we also play some good moves too. A mix of everything is what is needed. How many times have Arsenal tried to walk the ball into the net and passed it round at the back and in midfield without scoring? Sometimes you have to be direct. What about Villa? Get the ball forward and hope that the pace of Agbonlahor and Young can get them there before the defenders. Sometimes those forward passes anre good ones but equally they are often hit and hope.

Hughes didn't play ANY better football than Sam has had us playing!! If Hughes played better football, then I'm the real slim shady!
