You don't think it's reasonable to compare our results to the same fixtures for other clubs?

Don't get the dinglesque bit. You mean I'm making excuses?

This is Sam the Expert's away record in the last ten matches:

Arsenal 4 Blackburn 0

Liverpool 4 Blackburn 0

Stoke 1 Blackburn 0

Man City 3 Blackburn 1

Chelsea 2 Blackburn 0

Sunderland 2 Blackburn 1

Everton 3 Blackburn 0

Arsenal 6 Blackburn 2

Chelsea 5 Blackburn 0

Man United 2 Blackburn 0

Well...that does say a lot. Of the ten games seven were away to last season's top 5 and another was at Man City who, even before their summer splurge, had spent a fortune and were formiddable at home.

That leaves Stoke last season and Sunderland this season away. The Stoke game was abysmal...we all know that although it is one of the toughest grounds to visit. As for Sunderland...all reports on here suggested we were by far the better team and should have had three never mind one point.

Some of the performances were awful and there is no disputing that. However it was also an incredibly tough run of fixtures.

This is obviously a long-term project. Sam remains the best man for the job even if he is not quite the infallible expert he likes to think he is. It needs time though. We will be alright this season but in the next few years under Sam we will be doing much better than alright.

:rover: it,s alright going to old trafford and having 10 men behind the ball, but when they score you have to be brave and play with 2 strikers.what does lardarse do replace our single striker with another striker, with 8 mins left he brings on a second striker, we score a good goal thats disallowed.wtf did he not go 2 up front when we conceded, sooner he goes the better :brfcsmilie:

No guarantee of that I'm afraid. Also I think losing interest is an age thing that afflicts many men in their 50's and 60's.

You may have but I haven't laugh.gif

BUT Admin can you please to that thingy as with LancashireUtd and change Pauls name to Marvin the Paranoid Android? He's bloody depressing the lot of us.

Old one that Gordon, you've asked before. You know I'm trying to make some serious points here, not trying to depress people. There are so many choices open to us as consumers the PL really should be very wary of allowing the league to continue to develop in the way it has. The media now makes so much easily accessible it has become completely devalued. In times gone by I would buy a national paper every time Rovers played, I used to have the LET delivered every night, used to buy a programme, used to buy stuff in the club shop till they started selling dross.** I don't do any of these now which has cost a variety of companies lost revenue and perhaps even people's jobs. Two reasons why I have stopped; 1) 99% of the stuff in the media is nonsense created to fill space and 2) the info is thrown at me constantly and becomes wallpaper. Football is in danger of becoming devalued, at Rovers it is now, I know the cost of an ST and so do many others. When it has to go up what will the club do?

At OT on Saturday I reckon 20,000 seats were empty before the final whistle. Now of course we can make all the get back to Essex jokes but surely this tells us something? The game lacked, passion and interest and many fans saw avoiding the traffic as more important than watching the game. United were advertising tickets available for tomorrow's CL game, I found that surprising.

The PL is an industry with a collective debt of £3.1 billion spread amongst 20 companies. The current Sky deal is worth £2.7 billion over three years. It doesn't add up. I'd suggest the people who are running these clubs are largely incompetent and have wasted the enormous opportunity presented to English football by Sky TV. With this level of debt ALL clubs, not just Rovers, should be making huge efforts to retain their customers, yet I can name 10 families who have stopped going to football and all can easily afford it.

By relating my feelings about what I see I think I'm reflecting what many do not say. It's taken me a long time to admit on here I've given up going to some games and the reason is simple. The PL is uncompetitive and we are watching too many average players, most of whom would probably prefer to be elsewhere.

** I know the club now own the shop and I bought a very high quality winter coat there quite recently. I was truely impressed by it keeping my son dry when we spent eight hours in pouring rain a couple of weeks ago.

Right, I've had a look at this away form business.

Man Utd

Rovers 2-0 defeat

Sunderland 2-2 defeat

Bolton 2-1 defeat

...says to me we aren't too far off the pace. Maybe we shouldn't read too much into this poor run, it seems like it's just a fixture pile up.

its really difficult to achieve a 2-2 'defeat' anywhere let alone old trafford :P

Good luck and best wishes on your wedding dulwich!

To answer jim's question, managerial pay is still one area where Rovers are apparently top quartile. I can think of a few promising and proven managers who would find Sam's pay, Sam's staff and the Rovers' facilities a tempting proposition. Even Rovers' bank balance and balance sheet (note I am not including profit and loss) would attract 70% of all current PL managers.

Did you see RFW's post match ranting and raving? That's where he turned it into a 2-2 defeat for Steve Bruce...

Replying to JW_ 's excellent post in the now locked Sam out thread (suggestion to moderators, rename it "What if things don't improve?" and unlock), you undermined your case by talking about Cardiff v Notts County.

It is true that Newcastle and Juventus are both Johnny come lately poor man's excuse of an imitation for Notts County but in fact you were watching Cardiff V Juventus in England's second level of football.

PS repeated editing due to excessively inaccurate speed typing under the influence of too much medicinal scotch and honey... and I am in Lancashire- damn your colds.

Errr, that cold/whisky is getting to your vision as well Philip. It was Forest on telly yesterday.

Too true- the last fizzy pop match I remember seeing was Cardiff v Newcastle but the last weeks passed in a blurrr....

Confusing Notts County and Nottingham Forest... clearly someone is not planning on visiting that East Midlands city and leaving in one piece!

Phillip, where is the information on the club finances to be found?

Then how come they weren't knocking down our door when we signed Ince or Sam?

Yes I was hoping no one would notice but it was Cardiff and Notts Forest but I'm safe as there's no way I'll be in the Nottingham area any time soon.

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that people were very keen on the post when we signed Ince. Top 7 premier league club, lots of talent in a balanced squad. Sure not much money, but a good base from which to start. Some shocking teams in the league so had chance to find their feet.

After the Ince debacle we were a much less attractive option - results had to be immediate and our position was precarious. Combine that with a weaker squad and no money and it's a lot less attractive position.

There was plenty of talent making it known that they would be interested if Rovers were interested in them. Remember that under UK employment law not forgetting FA, PL, UEFA and FIFA rules, it is a fine line both an employed manager and a manager-less club walks in finding out if there might be mutual interest.

All I can suggest is go back to the threads on here at the time of BOTH the last two vacancies.

I remember it being the opposite. There was a dearth of attractive options.

At the time, some (including me) got carried away with the Laudrup idea, but that was more to do with being an alternative to Ince.

Martinez

Advocaat

Tan Cate

Laudrup

and that's without thinking about it and not knowing any approaches which did not surface.

None proven in the PL to this date though? Martinez looking promising but still a massive risk factor (I accept there is risk with all signings).

You say 70% of current PL managers would find our job attractive?? Not sure on that one...
