[Archived] Sam Allardyce

Recommended Posts

For me, this post perfectly sums up the reasons why so many of us feel so strongly about Sam. When Hughes left for Manchester City I must admit that Sam was the man who I wanted to replace him. The reason was not that I was an admirer of his style of football but because I felt he was the man most likely to ensure our continued survival in the Premier League. I too, remember the pain of relegation in 1965-66 and the quarter of a century spent outside of the top flight of English football. We have gambled once with the future of the club with the appointment of Paul Ince and that almost ended in tears.

I have no doubt that the next few seasons will see us continually flirting with relegation. The nature of the Premier League and its financing means that smaller clubs like ourselves are going to find it increasingly difficult to survive at this level. Having watched the likes of Clayton, Douglas, McEvoy, Pickering etc., and then endured a quarter of a century outside of the top division, I am quite happy to sacrifice style for continued Premier League survival. Although there are no guarantees, I simply believe that Sam offers us the best chance of continued Premier League football on a limited budget.

Yep, totally agree with this. I'm not a big Sam fan nor do I particularly dislike him, in my view he's done some bad and a decent amount of good. Bottom line is deep down I can't see us being relegated under Allardyce, and unfortunately thats about all we can really hope for these days.

:rover: so your happy to put up with the tripe lardarse serves,as long as we don't get relegated!! what happens if we do get relagated, would you be happy then :brfcsmilie:

We're happy to be in the top flight, and if we carry on the way we are we will be in the top flight again next season.

What do you want wag? Champions League?

I'm happy to give Big Sam the time he needs to re-build. We have no option. He's doing a good job. We'll be tenth and above the dingles within 2 weeks. If the season ended that way it would be a success. Obviously not a success for you as Sam will have succeeded but a success for us true Rovers fans.

I agree I cant either.....Under Ince that was a certainty.

These days being 2009. In the next few years he will improve us and get us back challenging way above where our resources should take us.

We won't.

Exactly. If we can either hit or beat target this season (13th) and then continue to progress further then il be very happy as it shows that Sam will of steadied the ship and fixed our holes from the Ince days.

I don't completely agree with that. With good management and other clubs doing badly 7th or 8th is possible. You wouldn't say there is much of a gulf in class between us and the likes of Wigan, Fulham, even Sunderland despite the money they have spent.

Only teams with clearly better squads than us are big four, Spurs and Villa. Everton once they get their players back will be a tough proposition. Everyone else we can match I think.

I agree with you in theory - but I'm talking over coming seasons. The financial gap between us and the teams you mention has widened recently and will likely only get wider. Sam is pretty much the only manager out there I can see keeping us even close to in touch with the Prem's nouveau-riche.

You're kidding me?!? A time is actually about to arrive when we can FINALLY judge Sam Allardyce~?!?!? I honestly thought the day would never arrive.

Fact is - he's already out, and just on borrowed time. He has never been fully accepted by the majority of fans I know, and never will be. Rovers fans won't accept this brand of football, and rightly so.

Hahaha that's such a general statement. I'm sure if in 2 years time he's fired, you will come on here and claim you knew best and told everyone he was on "borrowed time" he's not exactly going to be here forever.

Your friends at the Anti-Sam Club, aren't really a good sample to take of the Rovers fans.

But you were happy with the tripe Ince served up so much so that you demanded he be given a whole season. This was after 6 defeats in a row! And we would have been relegated. You have no credibility.

as opposed to the boos at half time ?

Do you think that when the team performs poorly in a game that I (or any other fan not anti-sam) just sit there and bear it? I get out of my seat and scream at the TV, during the Arsenal game I was shaking with nervousness because every time we'd score I just knew it wouldn't last. It in no way means that I think Sam is a poor manager or that we should sack the manager and the team along with him.

I have no problem with letting the team and the manager know you're unhappy with a performance at half-time or after a game. The question is, were people still booing after the game finished?

I know there is freedom of speech but surely unless you are a "guest' then you cannot call yourself a BRFCS member if you do not support the team.

Therefore Waggy should be relegated to "Guest" and required to sign in as one each time.

MODERATORS?

tell ya what wouldnt mind betting a pound a game on the rovers games waggy has been to compared to you. or even me and miker.

It's strange, but as far as the 'anti-sam' fans go, I actually don't mind waggy. Most of the points he's raised have been fairly reasonable. Doesn't mean I agree with him, but I don't find them quite as irritating as some others!
