T4E Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 I would be looking out for Neil Mc having his phone on and taking orders about substitutions and the like. I missed a couple of calls from a private number at 3ish today. Probably wanted to get Andrews on.
Paul Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 A few more performances like today and I'll be convinced. Great stuff, really enjoyed the game. The best of the season for me.
ABBEY Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 alls ive said is 2 up front and play on the deck footy and thats what we did and many on here reckoned it couldnt be done.
T4E Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 The best about today was Dunny showing that he can still be effective playing in the middle in a 4-4-2. I was concerned he would lose the edge his game has had. A lot of credit has to go to N'Zonzi for that.
Eddie Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Got to agree there Abbey. I'm not trying to prove a point, but all season long I've been calling for 4-4-2 and a little less direct. We finally try it (the first game that Allardyce isn't there, not that I think he won't had the final say on things) and it works perfectly. I'm no footballing genius, but the fervent sam fans always came back with "it isn't possible" and that 4-5-1 was our only option. Clearly not. Seems it took the expert a little bit longer to get clued in. Credit to him for changing things up for this game, but I'm not going to bow down before him for getting something right 3 months into the season. Hopefully this marks a change in our approach and we can look forward to seeing our best formation being used every week.

N'Zonzi was a whole lot more positive today and seemed to play with a confidence we've not seen before.
gazsimm Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 hope them brillant 3 points we got today Sam, put a smile back on your face. Get Well soon from all Blackburn Rovers supporters.
Mattyblue Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 For me 442 will work home and away against at least 12/13 teams in this league, yeah we'll get beat sometimes, but we'll win a fair few an all with the attacking players we have at our disposal.
Backroom Tom Posted November 22, 2009 Backroom Posted November 22, 2009 Get it on ESPN pay-per-view Cant be any worse than the dross footy due at t'breezeblock Well I for one enjoyed today's serving of dross
ABBEY Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Well I for one enjoyed today's serving of ON THE DECK IN YER FACE TAKE THAT FOOOTY
Miker Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Got to agree there Abbey. I'm not trying to prove a point, but all season long I've been calling for 4-4-2 and a little less direct. Hopefully this marks a change in our approach and we can look forward to seeing our best formation being used every week. I will agree and disagree because I do want the team to play 4-4-2, as I think we've performed slightly better with that formation, but at the same time I don't think we were really that convincing playing along the ground. I think we have a very strong group of players with a lot of depth and that's very promising, but they don't seem to gel together and make way too many mistakes. At times it looks really good, but at other times passes just go astray and the players aren't on the same level when making attacks, so a lot of our attacks would breakdown against Bolton and you could see the frustration from some of the players. I am hoping that as the season progresses the team goes from strength to strength, as it is quite obvious we have a lot of new players and we need to make sure they all integrate well into the team and once that has happened, we can actually be very positive about our future.

As to the line-up, it'll depend on whom we play. Less risk with 4-4-2 against the likes of Bolton and Portsmouth. Not as if Sam is slow to catch on at all. Love the "I'm not trying to prove a point but......."!! Agree--main fault today --giving the ball away needlessly when not under pressure.

Steve Moss Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 There were faults with the Rovers' play. Just a lot fewer than Bolton's. I'm with Miker on this one. We have a good squad that needs to mesh a bit better, develop some self-confidence and up the consistency level. They do that and we will be challenging for Europe. Though I'm not particularly in favor of playing in Europe as I think it brings a lot more problems than its worth for teams such as ours.

Europe is Europe, and playing in it can only be good for the club. Many players sign knowing you are in Europe, and we have a better chance of attracting top players. On the other hand, the extra games can rip you apart as well as Fulham are finding out.

Sorry got to disagree with you there. UEFA football or whatever it's called these days is a complete waste of time, money and effort on the part of the club. It costs money to take part, there are too many games against non-entities you've never heard of and it distracts from the real business of the PL. Having said that should we ever get a decent draw again I shall go as I've never seen Rovers away in Europe.
Eddie Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 The Europa Cup (I think that's what it is called now?) may not be a money maker (at least it wasn't), but it's good for the fans and raises the profile of the club. If we get European football it will make signing players that much easier, not to mention keeping the ones that we have. We're miles away from really starting to think about qualifying for Europe at the moment, but if we did it would be great. Distraction from the premier league? Yes please. Maybe we can take it seriously and actually go on a nice cup run.
Bobby G Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 People who diss European football, I dont know what to say. Yes, its not too pulse-racing when you lose in the first round of Europe against some Polish side, but once you get into the group and pit yourself against the likes of Deportivo, Sampdoria, PSG, et al it wont be so bad, would it? Its a distant dream though at the moment.
thenodrog Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Having said that should we ever get a decent draw again I shall go as I've never seen Rovers away in Europe. I must be getting old. A 'decent draw' constitutes an interesting / attractive destination imo Paul.
Paul Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I must be getting old. A 'decent draw' constitutes an interesting / attractive destination imo Paul. Same here. Sparta Prague or some team from Budapest would be nice. I could spend a day in the spa, meal and then the game.

waggy Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I'm waiting to see if Waggy is going to certify himself as a decent human being, or if he's going to continue to hide away and ignore the fact that our manager is having a heart operation. thousands of people have heart operations everyday,i've not been hiding just better thigs todo than visit this site at weekends, with a bit of luck he will think about the rest of his life and retire, damm sure i would never work again if i had to have a heart op
