broadsword Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Have you really been that impressed by Robinson? He seems a bit shaky on crosses, corners and deep free kicks, am I being too hard on him? As well as being dodgy on long shots.

John Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I think Robinson has slightly improved from last season. They went through the goals we have conceded this season on Espn and whilst he has made some good saves, he is still making too many errors.

As well as being dodgy on long shots. Absolutely - lets remember Brad wasn't the best at crosses but always did enough, Robbo is the same in my view. If it wasn't for Dunny he'd be my player of the season so far. I think Robinson has slightly improved from last season. They went through the goals we have conceded this season on Espn and whilst he has made some good saves, he is still making too many errors. Would be interested to know which goals were attributed to Robinson errors?
waggy Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Providing he sticks to pulling his string in his local and not on the BBE that's fine by me. have not been in the blackburn end for years, full of chavs
unluckymorton Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I wish Brad was still here as much as the next guy, but there's absolutely no way any criticism can be levelled at Paul Robinson. He's superb. Robbo has been good this season but we'll never have a keeper like Brad to control the back four. No disrespect aimed at Robbo, you'll never see me knocking any of our lads, I'd rather keep my opinion to myself than bad mouth Rovers on-line.
unluckymorton Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Would be interested to know which goals were attributed to Robinson errors? That's like opening a can of worms, the ball has got to get past 10 men before it gets to the keeper. Robbo is a decent keeper but like in other departments we are not as strong as we used to be. We could have a lot worse keepers, if we hadn't have signed him god knows who we'd have ended up with.

As well as being dodgy on long shots. Robinson has been OK, but he will never get anywhere near Brad's level. The thing that has surprised me about Robbo, is his weaknesses lately with long shots. He reminds me a bit of Alan Kelly. At the end of his career he could hardly stop a bus.
John Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Would be interested to know which goals were attributed to Robinson errors? In work, so got to be quick, but quite a few from memory - most goals (which were his fault in their opinion) were from outside the box and flapping on crosses.
mellison24 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I am a keeper whenever I play footy (whether it be with my mates or subbing for one of the lads at Darwen or occasionally the 3rds at Uclan (20mins so far this season, not conceded! GET IN!). Anyway, I am always very interested in the goalkeepers more than the team. With Robbo I think his SOLE weakness is his positioning, which has led to mistakes from long range. I do think he's DECENT at everything else and very good at reaction saves. I think he basically IS Brad Friedel, albeit not quite at the standard we knew and loved. But to say he will never reach that standard is ridiculous, he's 29 ffs! Don't goalies (like R Brad) peak in their early-to-mid 30's?I think that if we can keep Robbo for a long time (possibly until his career twilight), he will be just as good, if not BETTER than Brad. Just my outlook on him. I don't believe I have yet wished Sam well with his heart-op, so I shall. Hope all goes well Sam! Neil McDonald's Blue-White Army!!!
tony gale's mic Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 I wish Brad was still here as much as the next guy, but there's absolutely no way any criticism can be levelled at Paul Robinson. He's superb. Don't understand how anyone can describe him as superb. He's done better this season than last and is capable of some top drawer saves but there's still too many goals where you feel he could do better on.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 His positioning has always been dodgy, he stands too far off his line at times. His kicking is incredibly accurate though, hence we bombard the opposition with free kicks all the time. He needs to shoot more often, if he had scored against Burnley it would have been the greatest of all time.

Just to point out to those in the BBE: I'm the eejit that shouts 'SHOOT!' everytime Robbo takes a freekick near the halfway line. Cheers.

broadsword Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 surprised to see on Official Website that he's 6'4" ... for a 'keeper of that height he just isn't commanding enough.

Cheers. We do the same, a few people do it. We used to do it for Mokoena as well, it was surreal when he eventually smashed one in (Sunderland).

CrazyIvan Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I can't think of many myself? Nor me. I can think of the one V Pompey and the one V Burnley. Long range shots I think maybe he should have saved. The Pompey one was really well placed and the Burnley one was well hit so maybe even that's harsh.
unluckymorton Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I've heard you. You can't be very far away from where I sit then. The guy next to me shouts it regularly... Maybe it's tourettes syndrome.
mellison24 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 It's only tourettes if it's 'F***ING SHOOT!!' (or other variations).....i may need to tone down my vocab, cos I too tend to shout swears.....

LeChuck Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Bit harsh that one. I'd definitely say Essien's long ranger though.
