Majiball Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 If thias really is the choice then I want an option that says "find someone else" as we have no chance of survival with souness and as is well-documented, I hate allardyce Listen to the Lady she's speaking sense.

joey_big_nose Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I cant believe anyone would not go for Allardyce, he is tailor made for our current situation. Fair enough his football is ropey, but that is hardly our primary concern at the moment....
Hasta Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Anyones better than them two. Frank Clark- Forest where bottom when he took over and a season after they finnished third, when we finnished as champions. Dave Bassett could also be a name. Had success at wimbledon. Ron Atkinson could also be a possiblility David O'Leary had experiance in the prem (kept Villa up with no money) before and in the Champions League final John Gregory had a limited amount of money at Villa and when he left they where top of the league. George Graham- Dull but will sort the defence out and should stay up Terry Venables kept boro up all those years ago behind the scean David Pleat- Prem experiance Successful at Luton Greame Taylor- It won't be nice and certainly watching but we wil stay up with the turnip. Also had a limited amount of money at villa. Peter Reid- kept leeds up with a win at Arsenal on the last day of the season NO MONEY Howard Wilkinson- Won the league with Leeds many moons back. Joe Royle- took City from the second division into the prem. Lennie Lawrence- Used to a relegation battle, managed Grimsby and Boro kept them both up. (No money at Grimsby) Eddie Gray- Gave Leeds a fighting chance in the prem after they seemed to be dead and buired. NO MONEY These blokes have all managed in the prem before and may just get us out the mess where in. As you can tell though it has to be anybody BUT Souness and allardyce for me How about you. Without being biased why didn't you write a one line appraisal of Allardyce like that. Allardyce - 3 top 8 finishes, cup final, UEFA cup runs - NO MONEY Instead you give a list of has beens, perverts and crooks.
Iceman Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Gordon Strachan anybody? Still i would prefer Curbishley over both BFS and Souey.
Sandiway Blue Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Anyones better than them two. Look Below Frank Clark- Forest where bottom when he took over and a season after they finnished third, when we finnished as champions. Been out of the game for over 10 years. Are you serious? Dave Bassett could also be a name. Had success at wimbledon.Ditto Ron Atkinson could also be a possiblility. As above David O'Leary had experiance in the prem (kept Villa up with no money) before and in the Champions League final. The guy cannot manage.End of. John Gregory had a limited amount of money at Villa and when he left they where top of the league.Been scuttling around in the lower leagues before settling for doing a bit of media work. George Graham- Dull but will sort the defence out and should stay up.Been out of the game as long as Don mackay! Terry Venables kept boro up all those years ago behind the scean. Not a bad choice but a bit too lairy for my liking. David Pleat- Prem experiance Successful at Luton.Again been out of the game for quite a while. Greame Taylor- It won't be nice and certainly watching but we wil stay up with the turnip. Also had a limited amount of money at villa. One trick pony-no thanks. Peter Reid- kept leeds up with a win at Arsenal on the last day of the season NO MONEY.again been out of the game for too long Howard Wilkinson- Won the league with Leeds many moons back.Ask sunderland fans what they think of him! Joe Royle- took City from the second division into the prem.Would be a good choice.......... 10 years ago Lennie Lawrence- Used to a relegation battle, managed Grimsby and Boro kept them both up. (No money at Grimsby) Is he still alive? Eddie Gray- Gave Leeds a fighting chance in the prem after they seemed to be dead and buired. NO MONEY Good coach but NOT a manager. These blokes have all managed in the prem before and may just get us out the mess where in. As you can tell though it has to be anybody BUT Souness and allardyce for me Allardyce in desparation but Souey has had his time, and given the concerns over Rovers fitness levels when he left,i think it would be a mistake to go back now. How about you.
philipl Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 If a poll is to be run before we know who it is, I suggest it might be an idea to put up the hypothetical Souness/ Allardyce/somebody else poll now.
JAL Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Is David Moyes out of the question hes experienced always said positive things about Rovers in the past more so than Allardyce.
1864roverite Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 .>>>>>>>>>>BREAKING NEWS>>>>>>>>>> Big Sam just been dropped off in a black Range Rover at his home address, has been out since early morning. Quite clearly been in a meeting, wearing black suit, blue and white tie and carrying his brief case, also with a second chap, identity unknown aged around 55yrs. Mrs A nowhere to be seen.

Good God! that list looks like an A-Z of good past prem managers yes they may have done good jobs in the past but have all been out the game far too long would have to say the only names that would inspire me with and would get us out of the current do-do we are in 1.BFS. 2.A.Curbishley. 3>GS-last resort if the other 2 turn us down.

That blue and white tie won't have gone down well at the Sunderland interview. At least it wasn't black and white I suppose!

What an awesome post (non sarcastically). Do you live near Allardyce then?
imy9 Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Well here is hoping that Ince is fired in the morning and Big Sam announced as the new manager of Rovers!!
gumboots Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Who would you prefer Jose Murinio perhaps? That's unrealistic and he'd drive me crackers anyway. I just wish I could think of a realistic choice that is not one of the people already mentioned because i still think we could do better than the names so far being mentioned.
1864roverite Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 What an awesome post (non sarcastically). Do you live near Allardyce then? No but a relative lives next to him (or behind him)
my_name_is_Earl Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 No but a relative lives next to him (or behind him) I'm praying that Sam has just had a lovely dinner at Mr Williams place! Blue 'n' white tie.......hhmmmm....sounds like a good sign (desperately clutching at straws!)
1864roverite Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Reality football reports BFs is currently on his phone, glass in hand in the conservatory, Mrs A and two others (poss Son Craig) are with him. No tie on now and seems pretty relaxed. thats the view on offer right now 2110hrs
imy9 Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Probably went for the Sunderland interview... Quinn has announced that they will take WEEKS before announcing the new man, we have a window of opportunity here, lets take it. Favour of Sam: 1. three top 8 finishes (would have finished higher with Bolton had he stayed in the final year). 2. Purchased top players at Bolton, given time, boring players? Anelka, Jay Jay, Diouf to name but 3 players whose careers he transformed. 3. Beat the top sides, Wenger hates him! 4. Is very modern in his approach, Rovers players will like him as this will be close to what hughes did.
philipl Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Probably went for the Sunderland interview... Yes, their second team colours are blue aren't they... For all the folks banging on about ex Premier League managers, there are a few ex-Premier League Managers in the Coca Cola who would presumably come onto the radar and have not been mentioned on here yet- McCarthy, Eck, Coppell, David Jones and Jewell. Then there are the likes of Martinez, Coyle, Irvine and Grayson who are doing pretty well at present. The difference between even a relegation haunted Premier League club and a parachute-supported Coca Cola club is so great that a determined Rovers could hook anyone of those out from their current employers.
Amo Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Yes, their second team colours are blue aren't they... Does it matter?
John Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I would be pretty happy if Sam took over. Reasons why: He is forward thinking (modern approach) and has plenty of ideas. He would have decent coaching staff/set-up. Decent in the transfer market - done it before with limited resources. Experienced and would have learnt from mistakes at Newcastle.

IMO we cannot get a manager in who is inexperienced, the above are either too young, currently performing badly or not good enough for us. My personal choice would be the current Celtic manager (name eludes me, it has been a long day!) or Martin Jol BUT the man to take us out of this mire is Big Sam, no question about it, his credentials are ideal for the situation we are in and the financial state of the club too.
T4E Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 My personal choice would be the current Celtic manager (name eludes me, it has been a long day!) There's a very good reason for that.
