What do you mean hasn't changed? I never agreed he couldn't cross. That was a fallacy put on here that people agreed as fact.

I'm saying his "final ball" hasn't improved - not simply his crossing.

But if you always thought he could cross, why the remark that some thought he couldn't improve?

As they are two different things. i thought he could cross. However I also thought he could improve. I don't think crossing is a black or white thing. It isn't you can either do it or you can't. Nor are other things in football.

Finishing for example...it is true that some are rubbish and will never be much good. However it doesn't mean players cannot improve at it or get worse.

I remember when Sutton was at Chelsea. Couldn't finish. He didn't have it. Yet he did at Rovers and at Celtic.

Look at Drogba. Couldn't finish for toffee when he joined Chelsea but now is widely regarded as one of the best finishers in the world game. I know who I would back in a ninetieth minute one-on-one to win the points...and it ain't the keeper!

Anyway...I think I made the comment as I think either Lennon or Defoe would be a sensation at Ewood. It is what we lack...the movement, the pace, the enthusiasm. Sam talked about Bent...sure, he can finish, but what we really miss is a spark. Some players seem to have that spark and be exciting. The only one we have is Dunn and that is sporadically.

There is nothing to suggest that Di Santo won't be far more prolific in the future than he has been for us so far. It isn't certain...but these things cannot be explained or predicted or neatly packaged into a..he can't do it...so that is that.

Oh well...just thinking out loud really den. Hope you don't mind!

Not at all FLB. I actually think you're a top poster and the history section *wot you wrote*, is the best contribution ever made to this site.

Bet that bloomin' surprised you didn't it!

*thanks to Morecambe and Wise*

Chimbonda is talented, but is almost morphing into another Diouf. Was originally a decent signing, but now doesnt seem to have the heart for the fight and is YET ANOTHER on big wages

Bar Dunn he could easily be the player of the season so far. Best right back we have had in years, its a pity we don't have warnock on the left anymore.

Thanks den.

Anyway...let's get back to normal.

Must be at least another 300+ pages left of this...

Lennon hasn't changed overnight FLB. He wont change now.

He hasn't changed overnight, he's changed over the last 18 months (or however long it has been since he was debated on here, it was when Bentley left I believe).

His crossing has been brilliant this season, Spurs have scored a lot of goals directly from him (second highest number of assists).

He's changed since we debated him on here - that's a coincidence then? :)

Of course good old stats can prove anything. No-one said he never provides anything, the charge against him has always been that he doesn't provide a final ball often enough. Spurs are flying this season, so he will provide more goals - most of their players probably have. Wasn't Keith Andrews high on our assist list last season, what does that actually mean? Trouble is, to know whether he's improved, we would have to know how many times he's wasted the ball. Players also have some seasons better than others, judge him over a length of time rather than one short spell, in one season.

He's having a better season LeChuck, you're right. To say that he's suddenly "changed" whatever that means, is a bit premature.

Plus LeChuck, there was no sign of him having changed at Ewood a few weeks back, quite a few said on here he was poor.

I have to say I agree with FLB and LeChuck here. Lennon has been brilliant for SPurs, probably their best player in a decent run at 4th, and is almost certainly going to start for England at the WC imo.

Whilst this is undoubtedly a positive statistic, I also believe that it confirms a gripe of mine that I have had all season - namely the fact that we hardly ever seem to turn up in the first half of games. I have lost count of the number of matches this season where the performance has been pathetic in the first half and then we suddenly improve in the second. One might put this down to inspirational half-time team-talks by Sam, however if this really is the case, from now on I would prefer him to give such team-talks before the match and then maybe we'll see a productive 90 minutes for once.

It is so frustrating to watch us effectively waste the first half of most matches. It has happened so frequently this season that I commented to my sister at Villa last Saturday that Sam may be under some sort of misapprehension about the rules - it's almost as though he seems to think that Rovers are the only team in the Premier League that isn't actually allowed to score/try in the first half and that the best half-time result we can achieve is 0:0.

Who knows where we would be in the table if we weren't constantly having to turn matches around in the second half of games....

I think it's ironic because at the start of the season, the biggest gripe I had was that we'd switch off in the second half and start conceding goals too easily. So you know, you can spin it any way you want it, but it seems that what we lack is consistency or the team has obvious weaknesses that other clubs are able to exploit.

If your mate wasn't as stupid as you he'd have seen an enjoyable and entertaining second half.

Shame.

Almost fell of my chair when Allardyce said he was happy with our current form, we’d been rather unlucky apparently

He just doesn’t help himself talking cr@p like that, especially on the back of slating some of the senior players for not trying.
