waggy Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Thanks for your post wagster. What exactly is your point? Nobody has said that going to Ewood is like watching Brazil. We SUPPORT our club, you should appreciate our position in the top flight as much as the rest of us who used to go to the delights of Swindon, Grimsby, Carlisle & Shrewsbury in the early '80's. It's a shame your only source of feedback about the Rovers is from a fella in the bookies. i'd rather listen to a guy who goes to the match than the fools on here who think the sun shines out of lardarses arse,i loved the days in the lower leagues,i watched paint dry for 45 mins on sat,why does the idiot play one up front, remind me

How can you complain about Rovers being 10th and having been in a classic cup semi final, beating chlsea on the way.

LeChuck Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 1 up front is the way forward It's how most Premier League teams play, yes.

Yes there are times when 442 is the right approach and times when it is not. Rovers supporters are used to 442. Maybe we have to wait a little while for the players to get used to 1 up front. Then see Sam's idea behind it. May not be attractive but Rovers are surviving in the prem - that has to be the goal first and foremost and build on from there. Sam has also brought in some young players which is also good. Give him a break waggy. he hasn't failed yet.

RevidgeBlue Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 How can you complain about Rovers being 10th and having been in a classic cup semi final, beating chlsea on the way. I like the way people are suddenly talking about us being tenth as though we've been sat there all season. I'll be very pleasantly surprised if we finish anywhere approaching tenth but if we do Sam will deserve every credit. I must say he seemed to be finally onto something in the first half against Wigan with Kalinic being supported by Hoillet and MGP bursting through the middle but unfortunately in the second he changed it all round and we reverted to type with hoofball and 50 yards between the lone striker and midfield once again.
gumboots Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 half the bburn end singing 4-4-2 says he has hardly half. One small corner of the lower tier. Nobody upstairs and very few anywhere else.
thenodrog Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 ,if we finish 10th he might get some gruding priase from me, I'm sure he'll be ecstatic about the prospect of that. i'd rather listen to a guy who goes to the match than the fools on here who think the sun shines out of lardarses arse, Good point waggy! We'd all rather listen to somebody who goes to the match? So why not take your own advice and shut tf up?
thenodrog Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 half the bburn end singing 4-4-2 says he has Who takes the slightest bit of notice of that lot? They are the intellectual derelicts that mix that with in with singing about Owen Coyle shagging paki's. Do you agree with that too?
mellison24 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Now that benni's gone, I had a thought about tactics and think this may be Sam's plan: Chimbonda-Samba-Nelsen-Givet Emerton-Reid-Olsson Hoilett-Pedersen Kalinic 4321. I quite like the look of it. I thought about it factoring in the number of players we have who can play 'in the hole'. I used those personnel just as an illustration, but it looks quite solid imo as well as creating chances galore for our current No#1 striker! I think we'll be just fine!
roverich Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I was cautiously optimistic when we signed Allardyce as I thought he might sniff out a few "have-been-and-might be agains" but the closest he's come is Salgado which hasn't exactly gone well. Then there was van Heerden (about 25/26?)... why?? I presume his son made a wedge from the deal! Diouf I understand, familiarity is safe and we were desperate for a winger. Sam has failed to shine in the transfer market. The football is painfully boring to watch. He said he would only sell Benni if a suitable replacement could be lined up... so he says we can't afford to lose a striker then goes right ahead and loses one. But the last point he earnt got us into the top half and this time last season we were relegation favourites. I hate the guy and I hate what he's doing at Blackburn but somehow I'm satisfied with our league position and delighted to have been in the league cup semis. I can't figure out how I feel! hardly half. One small corner of the lower tier. Nobody upstairs and very few anywhere else. at least they're singing something!!!

I hate the guy and I hate what he's doing at Blackburn but somehow I'm satisfied with our league position and delighted to have been in the league cup semis. I can't figure out how I feel! That is how a lot of fans are feeling. Personally I think we just have to wait and see. It is obvious that Sam is not going anywhere and sacking him would cost a fortune. Therefore barracking him or the team isn't going to help. Sam has not even had his first full season here yet. We need to wait until the summer before making judgements. At the moment we are tenth...I'll be amazed if we stay near there but it obviously is not all doom and gloom.

I like that tactic as well, I thought that's how we played against Villa in the second leg with Dunn in place of Hoilett? But I could be wrong. Either way, it could definitely work for our team. I like the idea of our left flank having someone more defensive in Givet, and someone more attacking in Olsson, and then on the right flank having the same, but Emerton more defensive, and Chimbonda more attacking. Gives us some good variety. Having Dunn/Pedersen/Hoilett/Yildiray as the attacking midfield options is excellent. It could fall apart though if our central midfielder isn't good enough. Grella or a back to form Reid would do nicely, but I'm not so sure about N'zonzi... he's looked out of his depth past few games.
Kelbo Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I , but I'm not so sure about N'zonzi... he's looked out of his depth past few games. NZonzi is doing fine, did ever so well at West Ham, he will thrive next year, thats if we can keep him, when you look at the young midfielders coming through in the prem now, he is up there with the best!

I've never thought that Sam used a static 4-5-1 and I think he's been trying to introduce a more fluid formation that morphs depending on the need. As to N'Zonzi, I think he's a star. But he's young and so lacks experience and mental toughness. I think a couple of weeks break would do him a world of good.

Yes and I loved it in the lower leagues too, but times have changed, even the lower leagues, players will chnge clubs for a fiver|!!

It's just we haven't really had a fit Grella and Reid for a while. I'm not sure how easy it is to drop N'zonzi now that he's been in the first team for so long. Might dent his confidence?
dixonbrfc Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 i will happily admit so singing "4 4 2...4 4 2...4 4 2" as im not bothered what anyone says, most the time we desperately need someone up with kalinic and we just hoof the ball up to him aimlessly(sp). and allardyce never seems to do it, against wigan i think in the 2nd half we were abit lucky because we were woeful in that half! but credit where credit is due, we are in the top half of the table so who am i to complain!

LeChuck Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Chimbonda-Samba-Nelsen-Givet Emerton-Reid-Olsson Hoilett-Pedersen Kalinic 4321. I quite like the look of it. I think I'd go with... Chimbonda-Samba-Nelsen-Givet Emerton----------Reid---------Olsson --------Pedersen-------Dunn --------------------Kalinic Basturk can replace Dunn if he's not available, also Diouf as well, who looks more comfortable playing central because his lack of pace is exposed as much. I think Hoilett offers us very little at the moment, I'd rather just use him as an wildcard player from the bench.

I think Hoilett offers us very little at the moment, I'd rather just use him as an wildcard player from the bench. I like the look of that line up, especially with the option of adding a more pace to the game with Junior as a sub if need be. The back four is a must with Jones and Jacobsen on the bench, Bert Reid & Olsson with Olsson offering support to both MGP & Givet and Bert the same with Chimbo & Dunn (if fit). Bert, MGP, & Olsson are all capable of feeding Kalinic whilst also creating chances for themselves. I'm not sure Basturk is anywhere near ready for a game, I'm looking forward to seeing him though. Then you have Andrews.....
mellison24 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Something I don't quite understand (and I'll hold my hands up to having done this), but why do we grunt when people say 451, yet the mention of 4321 or 4231 gets a glowing reference, while it's essentially the same thing? There isn't REALLY such a thing as 451 as there isn't enough room across the width of a pitch!
