thenodrog Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Liverpool 2 - 2 Man City? I thought that it was a great game. In fairness the quote to which I am referring was given in the ht report when it was 0-0. From the Daily Telegreaph match report.......... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/liverpool/6616893/Liverpool-2-Manchester-City-2-match-report.html "Nothing at all, on the other hand, was good about this game until Emmanuel Adebayor’s arching header cancelled out Martin Skrtel’s opening goal, his first for the club. Passes were misplaced, play fragmented, chances not so much at a premium but non-existent. Only Nigel de Jong and Javier Mascherano, masters at destroying play rather than building it, excelled. It was a day for scrapping and fighting, for blood and thunder. When Andre Marriner, the fourth official, held up his board to indicate six minutes of injury time at the end of the opening period, a collective groan went round the ground. It proved to be 51 minutes of purgatory, enjoyed only by observers affiliated to Tottenham and Aston Villa. A cup of stadium tea had never been more enticing. There had, after all, been precious little to warm them in the preceding 51 minutes. " Does'nt sound the best does it Bucky?

Hughesy Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 as opposed to the free flowing thrill a minute ball on the deck brazilian football allerdyce plays ... No your right Zabbey - its boring, hoofball, which is pathetic and we are going to get relegated for sure! Keep reading the papers!
Darth Paul Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Rafa's comments about Whelan sum up why I have always thought man was a clown - he says DW should concentrate on his own club, and yet can't stop talking about Big Sam! Someone should write a book about this- The Damned Rovers, Rafa's life time obsession to beat Big Sam, and one day manage Rovers...I hope not! (Not comparing Rafa and Sam to Clough and Revie before anyone starts!!!) I can't decide if I want the fat Spaniard to get the boot or not - the longer he is at Anfield, the longer what are becoming the most annoying club/fans in the Premiership go without winning anything.
Bobby G Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 If I was Benitez I wouldnt have even responsed to any of the initial jibes with Sam. Id just point that Ive beaten Sam every single time (I think) so instead of wasting time talking to me he should find a new way to try to beat us. His response though typifies someone who has been rattled and under pressure.

Rafa is a wolly and he is over rated, his dig at Rovers was out of order, he would struggle if he was the manager of Rovers.
thenodrog Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 ....... he would struggle if he was the manager of Rovers. err.... he's fairly well struggling now imy9 and thats after flushing 120m* down the pan. I've valued Torres at 30m btw. After him, Reina and Benayoum the rest would only get moved on in a car boot sale.

thenodrog Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Gerard?? Good club player around the edge of the box but as I keep saying his game is well overrated. The press and media keep building him up and every time they do more people simply accept it and repeat it. I know he's a knack of scoring in big games but has anybody ever seen him dominate and control a match v us? I haven't. Nor have I seen him stand out for England. Like Beckham he has a reputation that he has not earned.
Mr. E Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 If the tactics we are using are enough to beat Bolton and Hull, but then we find ourselves vastly inadequate against Pool and Spuds....well then it's time to try new tactics in those games. Clearly 4-5-1 is useless against teams better than us.
Dan Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I hope he gets the sack in the summer. Bringing on Andrews when 2-0 down says it all.
imy9 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I hope he gets the sack in the summer. Bringing on Andrews when 2-0 down says it all. I thought Andrews played well at centre half- what mistakes did he make? He was even quite tidy with his distribution.
Amo Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Sam is not the ideal manager, but then we're not the ideal club. We're a ######-poor town club, with owners who can't wait to see the back of us. We're forced to sell our best assets every season to balance the books and the manager has to make do with the leftovers. The mercurial Mark Hughes could see the flashing warning signs, which is why he whored himself out to bigger clubs. Right now we're sitting comfortably in mid-table, 10pts ahead of the relegation zone in March. That's a darn sight better than our position last season, therefore progress is being made. Of course, the football can be a major turn-off and the away form is some concern, but let's take one step at a time. Sam will need time and patience to build his own team, and that isn't easy for the PL's rich-list let alone our meagre spendings. Unless the wheels come off, Sam is the best man for the job - like him or lump him.

If you hurry there still might be some Newcastle season tickets for next season. I'm sure your rational and analytical approach to the game will be more than welcomed there.

Oops sorry elite forum member, everything is fine and dandy, we are 2-0 down and decide to bring on one of the worst players players in our premier league history. I have an opinion and it's different to yours, respect that. Why would I buy a season ticket for a club miles away that I don't support? Do I need you to welcome me here to support Rovers? I can think and say what the hell I want, your opinion isn't fact.
thenodrog Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I hope he gets the sack in the summer. Bringing on Andrews when 2-0 down says it all. Not a chance cock. We cannot afford it if we wanted to.
Dan Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Not a chance cock. We cannot afford it if we wanted to. You're right and whilst safety is obviously the most important thing, I can't help but think that with the players we have we could do better than we will under Sam. We have shown in glimpses how good we can be, so it's either bad management and team selection or the players that can't be bothered most of the time. Is it complete coincidence that our best performance in 2 years happened when Sam wasn't in charge?(Chelsea in the league cup). I think we can aim higher than just staying up, I don't think Sam has the ability to offer us anything more than that, but unfortunately we are stuck with him and relegation scraps is what we are going to be stuck with.

It's hardly a relegation scrap if you're safe by mid-February is it?! I was basically saying your attitude was more befitting those Newcastle fans we all laughed at than anything else. It isn't a relegation scrap, but our ambitions are nothing above staying up. I see what you mean about the Newcastle fans, I'd like to think I'm much less fickle than them. Maybe the grass is just seeming greener on the other side of the fence, but I can't help feeling fed up with Rovers these days. At times we have been as bad as I can remember, with a squad that is mostly not a bad one.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Lets wait for the next home match - and the Sam out brigade will fade away - well until the next away match. This seems to be a reoccuring theme. Maybe it will change - as our home matches are getting more difficult and our away ones easier ? Personally (though I feel sorry for the loyal fans who travel on a regular basis) - I would rather we won on a regular basis at home than away. Ideally I would like both - but then again we no longer rival Man United for every major transfer - so have to set our sights a little lower.
