Eddie Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I wish that his comments wouldn't come across as so negative in the press, it's been a long-standing gripe of mine with several of our managers. I do realise that it is highly unlikely that we ever win the league or get into the champions league without their being a significant change either in the clubs finances or in the landscape of domestic football, but why come out and say that it won't happen? How difficult is it to simply say that it is unlikely, but always something worth aiming for? I hate the lowering of standards and expectations in anything, but it particularly bothers me when it comes to sport. Allardyce: Stop talking about Newcastle Stop talking about Benitez Stop talking about your bad luck and spoil tactics Stop playing us down

Allardyce: Stop talking about Newcastle Stop talking about Benitez Stop talking about your bad luck and spoil tactics Stop playing us down Souness always called us a" little club" even when we won the Worthy Cup as I remember, regarded Europe as a distraction from his main job of keeping us in the Premier league, more or less made the term "Lady Luck" (which never smiled on us) his own and so on.Did you say anything at the time?

He would have rather take his Mrs. out for a meal on a Thursday night than play in Europe.
Hughesy Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 FANTASTIC SAM!!! 10th after taking us over in 20th, just 19 months ago! Good tactics today - kept it tight & then 2nd half we were a different animal. Futures Bright - FUTURES BLUE N WHITE Get Running round Rishton Waggy!!!
thenodrog Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I rarely make predictions but I wouldn't be at all suprised if we won there. We are overdue beating Villa and it's a good time to play them. They have fallen away and will be rather deflated like Arsenal. Rovers on the other hand seem to be enjoying playing at the moment which is always a good sign. Granted we've a poor away record but their home form is fairly weak, they've won more away games than homes. Also there is some speculation about whether it might be O'Neill's last match in charge or not. I thank you. He would have rather take his Mrs. out for a meal on a Thursday night than play in Europe. I wouldn't have minded taking his missus out either.

WELL DONE BIG SAM!!! i was wrong in jaunary that you should get sack!!! you prove me wrong!
1864roverite Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 There is no doubting the fact that you have to give SAM and his staff a lot of credit for the way he has turned Rovers around and for the way the team has finished this season. To finish 10th is fantastic - 3 spots above our budgeted for place - so that has to mean approx £2m extra towards funds for new signings. You have to say sometimes its not been pretty it is however very effective as the clkub has reached 50 points. If you consider that we are only 13 points short of Liverpool it sort of magnifies the achievements of the club. Financially ok off the field. Some quality young players at the club with the acadamy and reserve teams progressing, it appears on the field Rovers are making huge strides forwards. Lets hope Sam can weave some magic in the transfer market as well as unearth another diamond or two. A semi final slot. Doubling the dingles and 10th spot. Dingles going down. Crowd average over 25k. Chepaest season tickets around. As a Rovers fan we couldnt really ask for more. Enjoy the summer folks. Fixtures out in 38 days. Finally, one for Mr Nixon as we move off for a short break pre World Cup. THAT GAP IS TRUCKIG HUGE
roversam Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Great effort by Sam and the lads. On our budget a top ten finish is fantastic 5th time Big Sam has finished in the top 10 now
Backroom Tom Posted May 9, 2010 Backroom Posted May 9, 2010 Great stuff Sam proved most of us even some of the most ardent of Sam defenders wrong when we doubted in January. Now the board must back him so next season we can look up and not down.
Eddie Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Souness always called us a" little club" even when we won the Worthy Cup as I remember, regarded Europe as a distraction from his main job of keeping us in the Premier league, more or less made the term "Lady Luck" (which never smiled on us) his own and so on.Did you say anything at the time? Yes and if you read my post you'll actually see that even then I say it is a "long-standing gripe of mine with several of our managers". The one who changed our attitude was Hughes, that was until he lost interest.
American Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Just imagine how much higher we'd have finished without Andrews...
Bobby G Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Great work Sam. If we can take the shape and form of the second half of the season into next season on the back of a summer where we signed a couple of good players to improve the team, we could push on for a Europa League spot, which would be a huge challenge worth taking.
Hughesy Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Why? He said at the beginning of the season that if we finish 10th-12th he would run starkers around it...(based on his arguement of how poor Sam was)
alexanders Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I have to say that getting rid of Benni McDonald's was brilliant business. Getting one of the old high-earners of the wagelist. I also wonder how much he was provoking off-field. The whole team seems to have gotten a lift when he went.
LeChuck Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Well done Sam and the players, a great season. So much to look forward to as well, we've got young players coming through in every position. A couple of quality additions and I think we can be on the tail of the established top eight teams next year.
jim mk2 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I have to say that getting rid of Benni McDonald's was brilliant business. Getting one of the old high-earners of the wagelist. I also wonder how much he was provoking off-field. The whole team seems to have gotten a lift when he went. Crucial point IMO. It's obvious now that McCarthy was a negative influence in the dressing room and his departure lifted a cloud that was hanging over the whole squad. McCarthy routinely spent alot of his time in matches slagging off team-mates (and Pedersen in particular) so it's little wonder if he was unpopular with his team-mates and team spirit improved when he joined West Ham. Those who berated the manager for selling McCarthy (the same ones who were calling for Allardyce's head earlier in the season) have even more reason to feel stupid.
tashor Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Just imagine how much higher we'd have finished without Andrews... Just imagine how much higher we'd have finished without Laardarse...
PAFELL Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 See my signature below... Do you really want that to happen to poor Rishton?
imy9 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 A top 10 finish, minus 20 million budget, he has bought well and a number of youth players are coming through too, a truly marvellous achievement when you look at the constraints. Is Sam going to get the praise he deserves?
The Rover of Finland Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Great job Sam! Something must have happend in dressing room at Eastlands. The team was totally different after that and played for Sam as a team. He gave young talents chances and they all did very well. There is something many clubs don´t have, future without high risk buys. Our defence was solid no matter who played. Let´s just hope Sam will be backed and he gets the players he wants. Lewandowski at first. Thank you Sam and the coaches for a great run!
Mozzer Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 i hope all those who have been calling big sam all season take a good look at themselves to finish top ten with the amount of money we spend is brilliant also hes introduced younger players to the squad who have done brilliant i might add - we got an exciting future .. big sam all the way !!!!!!!
Sandiway Blue Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Do you really want that to happen to poor Rishton? Thankfully i don`t live there, the only positive thing about living the other side of dingledale....
