unluckymorton Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Sam Allardyce, Dave Jones, Ian Holloway and Avram Grant are the four managers on West Ham's manager shortlist. I don't see it as a wise move for any manager. Avram Grant is the only man I can see taking that job.
Majiball Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Not being funny or anything but would the West Ham fans accept Sam's style? I just don't see it myself.

mark Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I expect (hope) he'll be ruling himself out sharpish. Nicko...
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Now if Sam was to leave then this would actually be a meltdown. Cant see it happening for a number of reasons but that ESPN article claiming that he'd accept the offer is concerning. Deploy agent Nicko.

I think/hope Sullivan is just using him mate Harry Harris to scare the west ham fans into welcoming Avram Grant..... Would be amazed to see Sam at West Ham.
gumboots Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I think/hope Sullivan is just using him mate Harry Harris to scare the west ham fans into welcoming Avram Grant..... Would be amazed to see Sam at West Ham. Stranger things have happened. They have no money, owe loads, need to sell their players, have interfering owners but because they are in London they seem to be more attractive.
Hughesy Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Thing with Sullivan & Gold - they dont give 2 hoots what anyone thinks, manager, players fans - they just do what they want! Sam has a good track record and they will be well aware of that - he could potentially take them to around 10th-12th next season without much difficulty! I just hope he comes out and says no chance.....going off what he was saying the other week, id very suprised if he went!!
roversmum Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Why would he want to go there? Dodgy owners, long way from home, he's settled and happy at Rovers (so he told me recently) which is only a short distance from home, etc. Hhhhhmmmm
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I bet there is a good chance they will spend more money than us in the summer. At the end of the day it all comes down to whether or not Sam feels he has taken us as far as he can, if he feels that we have peaked and there is little chance of further progression then he will be off. If he does go then its worrying from a Rovers perspective, I am no Sam cheerleader but I think considering that we are as poor as a church mouse he is the best man available for the job really. I don't see any decent candidates out there if he does decide to leave.
Craigman Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Could the potential of the club being sold be helped if we had no manager ?

I would say the first bit is surely no....he has been raving about our young prospects, surely he would want to build on that and develop them? As for the 2nd bit - I agree, I just hope he isnt interested!!
nicko Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I expect (hope) he'll be ruling himself out sharpish. Nicko... Can I use the word '######' to describe this report?
TimmyJimmy Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Can I use the word '######' to describe this report? Say it again Nicko, I need cheering up. You're convinced that Sam's not going to go WHam?
brfcshabba Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Surely the last thing Sam would want with a heart condition is an arguably more stressful job in trying to live up to West Hams percieved greatness.
vyeo Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Interesting development. There is bound to be a very split reaction to this. Five months ago, I would have been delighted if you told me someone was coming in for Sam and giving us compensation for it. Having completed the season, I feel we must give Sam his due credit. Whatever his faults, we have done very well, especially on a negative 15m transfer budget. But I would still not be too sad to see the back of Sam. If he decides to up and go after what he has said lately about our club, it just confirms that he saw us as a stepping stone and is prepared to ditch us at the earliest opportunity (and not for a very good alternative at that). If this is the case, I'll thank him for a job well done this season and move on. It may be for the better; always felt Sam and the club were incompatible in some way. This is completely abstract and intangible, so I can't really explain it. Maybe its the Bolton connection, I don't know. In any case, the most crucial part of this episode would then be the appointment of his replacement. We cannot afford to get this one wrong again, as we did with Ince. Ince set us back years, Sam has arguably clawed us back somewhat, akin to Hughes' early days. If Sam goes, we must get someone able to build on the progress we've made. But this is the biggest problem. There are no obvious candidates who would fit the profile we need. Hughes may be the closest fit, but I'm not sure if we could tempt Hughes back, and it appears unlikely. Grant might ironically be a good shout though, but we seem to prefer British.
nicko Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Say it again Nicko, I need cheering up. You're convinced that Sam's not going to go WHam? Of course...can I use the word '######' to describe this report? It has come from Barry Silkman to ESPN and Sky Sports News, almost simultaneously. Check ESPN to see another 'exclusive' on Yakubu and Speroni going to West Ham. I know for a fact that Silkman has contacted Speroni...Yakubu is looked after by Silkman's sidekick Zahavi. Now WHAT manager would that be for, I wonder? Not yours.
rog of the rovers Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Haha Sam joining would cause a riot in the East End. Not because he's a bad manager but because the Hammers are as delusional as Newcastle. The Academy of Football? Give me a break.
chocky Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Why would he want to go there? Dodgy owners, long way from home, he's settled and happy at Rovers (so he told me recently) which is only a short distance from home, etc. Hhhhhmmmm Doesn't he live in Bromley Cross?..I would have thought he would no be the sort to go to a London club but you can never tell for sure...
TimmyJimmy Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Nicko, the last time I read a sentance that contained all the words Yakubu, Silkman, Zahavi and Allardyce it was during the Steven's report on bungs in football (2007?). Assume there's no hint of anything unsavoury going on here then!? Speroni - is that the Argy goalkeeper? That's some tangled web in the making. Not really interested in who's swizzing who on this though, I'm just happy to read that Sam's staying put at BRFC. Basically that's what you're saying, right?

Kelbo Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Yes, Speroni is an Argentinain goalkeeper...and Avram Grant will be Portsmouth's next manager... Surely you mean West Ham Nicko??
