I do look at Spurs, I look at the money spent, three 12 million plus strikers to start with and they let Keane leave on loan, I think if you look at the value of their squad it will be close on £60 million plus!!

What would we have done with that amount of cash, wonder if Spuds will go the route of 'Arrys' other clubs, Bournemouth (admin) Southampton (admin) Pompey (admin) West Ham (almost admin) ?????

Jeez! kelbo you are so kind to Harry and his Jersey Royals, ;)

In Febuary 09 the potato heads had cost 187m to assemble, which included the the signings of Keane and Defoe for a second time, only 13m less than Chelsea and 2.5m less than Utd

Ours was in 17th place at 34.4m.

Sam Allardyce ear-marked by Al Ahli as man to put Middle Eastern football on the map

I read something a couple of weeks ago about a middle eastern club offering Sam a job, I presumed that as I had heard no more about it that he wasnt interested, strange how it has come back to light again.

Hmm, that's a strange one. In most other case I would call it lazy journalism, but with these middle eastern clubs you never know... Would be a suitable last job before retirement, seen through Allardyce's eyes.

At his age and medical condition you really couldnt blame the guy for at least having a think about it.

In my eyes Sam is still a hugely ambitious chap and having being knocked back from the England job and the way the press climbs on his back about his football ( even though we have seen most world cup teams play his way) Maybe he has had his fill of english football, it wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if Sam said he was interested although I very much doubt his wife would be over happy but the paycheck would be good and the standard of living probably wouldnt be bad either.

Usually there are 3 pundits for the world cup in Egypt, Sam Allardyce is always one of them. Today he did not come on and only graeme souness and Ian Dowie were on, they said at the start that Sam Would not be able to make it today because of "Club Commitments with Blackburn rovers"... Takeover imminent??

Taking a week's holiday in Dubai...after doing TV work...no need to be at pre-season training.

Maybe this is why? Big Sam linked with a move to Ali Ahli

Hmmmmm I could see this happening, he will get a huge amount of money and he has said many times that he loves going to Dubai, he has property out there and loves the lifestyle. Also taking into account his health problems he may decide that this is feasible for him, of course by taking the job he will effectively end any chances of getting a "big" job but I guess after his heart complaint last season he may not want that kinda of pressure.

If he has much of that then he might need a big payout. It's value must have bombed recently. That job would not suit his ambitions but maybe he's resigned himself to never managing a top 4 club or England now.

btw Just think how much money the FA could have saved and how much ridicule they could have avoided if they had appointed him when SGE left as they should have?

I should point out that Marcelo Lippi is the guy Al Ahly want...

The story is also in 'The People' today Nicko... so is it all some journalists speculation then if they really want Lippi?.. one of your mates at the 'People' stirring it? ^_^:P

One of Sam's mates...and another one in the Mail on Sunday doing the same story.

I wonder where it came from?

I am not sure why Al Ahli are trying to get such a high profile manager....they are definitely not one of the most well endowed clubs in the UAE nor are they highly successful......

The Maktoums seem to be taking a big interest in football again...

Might have their eyes on a club over here too.

In that article in 'The People' it did say they don't want to pay compensation to anyone.. soooooo if they bought Rovers - they could simply transfer Sam to their 'other' club :lol::P

Al Maktoum's have long been linked to Liverpool here. I wouldnt be surprised if they bought them. Could also be an explanation as to why Hodgson hasnt joined yet cause they would definitely want a more glamorous name. Watch this space.

No way would they go for little ol' Blackburn Rovers, when big brother owns Manchester City. They need to get the upper hand, at least in history and prestige.
