The Indians have been over...both sides are eyeing each other up...and in the meantime the manager can't sign players who would cost any kind of money...

It's a vital few days.

I was trying to think of something clever to say about cowboys but it's probably not the time ...

Someone tell me why he can't sign players. That money isn't the board's, it's our extra cash from last season sales. It's there to be spent, takeover or no.

Presumably if the right player was available he could spend the limited amount of cash we have but then that isn't by today's football standards any kind of money at all so perhaps it's sensible to wait because even an extra couple of million on top of what we have would make a lot of difference to what we might get. We would still be shopping in the bargain basement but some bargains are worth a bit more than others.

Not a lot of point signing C list players now, if in a few weeks A/B list players are still available and funding changes puts them back in the frame, if the current situation doesn't change, C list players will more than likely still be around.

Of course Sam would want all aspects of the takeover and the summer spending resolved sooner than later.

The likes of Klose, Guti and a right winger would be a dream worth waiting for.

Oh! and a LB please would be the dream topping. Yummy!.

Why would he take it?

No Champions league, no european competition at all (obviously), the money maybe good but the quality of league overall is poor.

One of Woy formerly of the Wovers or Harry will leave a vacancy for him soon, surely.

Money!!!!!! It seems to be a big part of what he's aboutnow. In fact probably alwyas was but when he was ours you tended not to think about it.

It wouldn't baffle me so much if it was Big Sam moving to Aly Ahly because he's been there and done it as a manager having worked his way up through the leagues. A challenge like that would probably appeal more.

If Mark Hughes were to take the job then that says to us all that he is only going for the money because he's at the stage of his managerial career where he has a great opportunity to work not just in England but also in other top European Leagues too. He won't learn anything out there which would better his knowledge because it's a far inferior league compared to the likes of the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga etc. Maybe he isn't as ambitious as we were all lead to believe.

Career suicide for Hughes if he takes this job. I can sort of understand Sam taking it because he is coming to the end of his managerial career and with his health problems he may see at as the ideal opportunity, but Hughes who is just at the start of his career I cannot understand because he likely to get bigger and better opportunities if he hangs around.

Anyhow I hope Hughes does take it as that means we keep hold of Big Sam.

"end of his managerial career" he's 56 hardly in the OAP bracket, health reasons would be a concern for himself and family and one that everyone could except, no doubt less stress in Dubai.

His pension will no doubt be in his thoughts if he does accept the offer. ;)

Hughes will get sacked before he knows it. Shocking that he is moving to Dubai at his age.

Is he a money monger? Why else would he ask for so much from West Ham and possibly Fulham? Unless he thinks jobs like Liverpool should be his?

Their stadium is 2 minutes drive from my house in Dubai.

Amazing that people are still questioning Hughes' character. He is not an "ambitious" manager, unless you count accumulating wealth as ambition. He took the money, left us for dead and joined Man City. That's not ambition, that's selling yourself out for cash. I'd understand if a real historical club like Real Madrid came for him, but stabbing us in the back for a championship club that some Arab company happened to pick out is not "ambition".

Many managers and players, like Santa Cruz and Bellamy, seem to be forgiven around here under the guise of "ambition", as if they're just hard working lads looking to make a name for themselves. Modern footballers and managers like them are at best gutless mercenaries, and I can think of much worse to call them.

So no, there shouldn't be anything at all surprising if Hughes wants to take the Ahly job.
