[Archived] Sam Allardyce

Recommended Posts

I think if you check out who wrote the story in the first place - his mates at the People and Mail on Sunday - you would KNOW the story is correct.

And from what I have found, following it up since, it is a real issue.

No point putting heads in the sand here.

Hmmm.... The story was in the MoS and the People... That makes me doubt it even more.

IMO Any Premier League manager willing to give up his post for a less than minor league position would be a fool, something Sam is far from being.

I thought Sam had rejected the Al Alhy offer a few weeks back. Have things changed since then (like not being backed on the Guti deal), and he has now decided to reconsider their lucrative offer?

In your opinion Alan, is there a chance that this one could happen?

the fact that the stories are ongoing and that Allardyce himself has done nothing to stop them ( in fact it would seem he's doing the opposite)suggests that it could happen. He needs to be careful not to paint himself into a corner. does he really want the job? Possibly tending towards probably, but does he want it more than he wants to carry on in the premier league with a bit more cash? Possibly.

The money on offer is huge...and tax free.

We all know that Sammy loves his pound notes. However, could he live without passing comment about EVERYTHING in the Premier League on a weekly basis?

If Sam really is considering going to Dubai could this be connected to this possible takeover? Such as he knows it will happen and that he also knows that the new owners do not want him as a manager. The fact the story is in the media and the only comment the club have made is the 'club' have not been approached. Maybe they have given him permission to look around for another job, in case the takeover happens. I think we also have to realise that Sam has been at a club where there was takeover speculation, so knows how that affects things, on and off the pitch. Maybe health reasons he may feel that he cannot go through that again.

This is really doing my head in now, Al Ahly are in Egypt, Cairo. Not Dubai.

Quality.

It's amazing how one minute Sam is in Dubai and the next people on here are discussing whether we should replace him with Simon Grayson. People really do get worked up by a bit of gossip.

All this was brought about by a Sunday newspaper. Enough said.

You mean compared to all the 'rumours' that he is talking to the arabs etc!? And therefore he will go!? Yeah ok

As for Hero - I couldnt stand Sam prior to joining us (due to his link with Bolton), however he has been fantastic for our club & saved us - Fact...not fiction!

I'm not saying he will go, I'm just saying it's not 100% that he will stay.

Just trying to counter your relentless positive spin on anything to do with Rovers.

Don't forget that Nicko is gospel here Morton

One letter does make a lot of difference, and I edited before your post! :)

If Sam thinks he's achieved everything he can do in the English game and he intends to disappear and retire, he'll take the AHLI (:)) job. If he thinks he still has something left in the tank and he isn't ready to pass away his remaining days in obscurity, he'll stay.

I can't believe how naive some people can be...

The story was in the People and Mail on Sunday, written by two people who know the manager very well. Their information is sound and correct.

The money for the job is around 2.5 million dollars tax free. That will be sustantially more than Sam is on at Blackburn.

He does not know what money he has to spend and he does not know whether this takeover will happen and he does not know whether the potential new regime would want him.

It is no wonder he is interested in Al Ahli or even Ali Piggin Baba.

He did NOT turn it down before. The job is still there and up for grabs.

I am sure - since those pieces were written last Sunday - that the rest of football is also now aware of his discontent at the current situation...I am equally sure that was one of the reasons the story was leaked...apart from the fact that the interest from Al Ahli in him is genuine.

Sorry to have a rant. But all this 'it's in the papers, don't believe it' crap does my head in.

I believe it. It's a cry for "I'm available for a pay and spending rise" help.

Just as Sparky has assembled his band of merry men, in a show of preparatory strength, much to the same aim. Keep himself on the PL radar, so to speak.

I personally doubt either will take the job, but they are both sure as hell available, for the right price and the appropriate prestige.

And we all know the big man will string this out until he finds out for certain he won't get Capello's job. Once and for all.

Well then there is nothing good at all about this takeover bid. It looks like it might cost us our manager, whom the team has been built around, there are no decent replacements I can think of, and even if we get someone new, they won't have time to buy anyone. And the chances that all this will be worth it and that in the future we will have a lot more money to spend with people in charge who actually care about the club are very, very small. Big promises have been made to a lot of clubs, but the ones that are true to their word are few.

Basically we're frakked from every angle.

So to be fair all is as it was when he originally signed his contract to manage us, apart from talk of a possible take over.

I am not preaching to anybody, but I personally do not believe what I read in the papers, I simply read the Sunday papers for entertainment value.

Once Sam or the club makes a statement about the situation I'll be all ears, until then it's just rumour. Then again it's highly likely there is no situation for either the club or Sam to make a statement about.....

I cant answer his interest in the Dubai job, but I can say for certain he is pretty miffed with the situation at Rovers and who can blame him?

You do know looking on the bright side of life isn't illegal don't you?

You're like the Mayor of Gloomsville

Nicko, Do you think that it is more likely that Sam has put the story out there because he actually fancies the job and becoming richer or that he's just trying to kick the board up their arse to release some cash?

Sweet Zeus almighty.

Explain to me what is the bright side of this situation.

I really am scratching my head here.

BFS may be leaving - confirmed in the posts above me. What is the bright side about this?

Takeover likely won't be complete this summer and we won't get to spend - confirmed in the posts above me. What is the bright side about this?

The chances that you actually benefit from a takeover in the long run are small - a fact that can be confirmed by the many that have suffered around us. Pompey, Newcastle, West Ham, even the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United...what, am I making this stuff up?

I think Big Sam will go. He is not very happy with missing out on his top transfer targets and with the takeover possibly happening he's not going to be allow to spend money. Plus maybe he knows that whoever takes over the club will want their own maanger in. He be through the takeover thing before at Newcastle and look what happen there.

The brightside.

The takeover might happen, Sam stays, we carry on doin alright til January, we get some money to spend, we strengthen the squad and end up doin rather well.....

Stranger things have happened.

But there you go, that's the brightside.

Given his health issues, age, the lack of funds at Rovers, likely pressure- free role on offer, huge wages, and lifestyle he'd be a fool not to go? Add to that his rampant ego and the press coverage he'll get over there and I can see more reasons for him to go than stay ....
