koi Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I think Warriors head of science, Mark Bitcon has a brother at Rovers who is on the sports science side of things. Wigan RL have always been leaders in sports science and invest heavily in that side of things, they even had Man Utd down in the early 90s seeing how they do things. I know the coaching team at Wigan visits NFL teams on a regular basis to keep abreast with developments. The club is actually very open to visitors and are regularly visited by people from other sports. Of course RL players train far more than footballers so I think Sam should start with the time spent at Brockhall!

EwoodGlory Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Fair point. I'll go for either Ruud Gullit or Dave Bassett then. Hoddle always seems to apply for these kinds of jobs.
moerpho Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 It's reported in norwegian newspaper Aftenposten that Trond Sollied - former manager of Herenveen and Olympiakos to name a few - has been assigned new manager for Al Ahli http://fotball.aftenposten.no/internasjonal/article173303.ece (in norwegian)
BuckyRover Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Where is the oracle? (nicko) He would never lie.....
thenodrog Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 And a tick from Waggy! http://store.perspicuity.com/sections/Products/Lemming.sized.jpg
tony gale's mic Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 David O'Leary ...has just been announced as the new boss of Al Ahli.
koi Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 ...has just been announced as the new boss of Al Ahli. Then I din't believe that Sam or Sparky were seriously in for the job - you don't look at that calibre of manager and then choose Dreary.
tony gale's mic Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 Then I din't believe that Sam or Sparky were seriously in for the job - you don't look at that calibre of manager and then choose Dreary. O'Leary isn't that bad - he's had some real high points in his career. Champions League semi final and successive top 6 finishes for Leeds (yes a lot of money spent but that was Risdales fault) and then got Villa from near the drop zone up towards the European slots in the time before they had boatloads of money to spend on new players. I can well believe that after not being able to get Sam or Sparky they go for someone like O'Leary.
nicko Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Where is the oracle? (nicko) He would never lie..... O'Leary got the job. But you would have known that if you read the right thread on Friday night. Never mind.
Kelbo Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 O'Leary got the job. But you would have known that if you read the right thread on Friday night. Never mind. Yes, you stated that the new manager was well known in Uk but has been off the radar for a while!!
Fife Rover Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Sam on England and a bit of Rovers talk too... Well said Sam! This is worthy of a read (especially by the anti-Sam brigade). Shows that he really does know his stuff.
AndyNeil Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 So what has he said in that article that is ground breaking, or hasn't been said up and down the land in pubs, or even by other pundits over the past four weeks on the TV screen? I think most of what he says is common sense but hardly proof of him really knowing his stuff.
Kelbo Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 So what has he said in that article that is ground breaking, or hasn't been said up and down the land in pubs, or even by other pundits over the past four weeks on the TV screen? I think most of what he says is common sense but hardly proof of him really knowing his stuff. Unfortunately, he is one of the few managers with common sense, many have none or very little. Much of what he says may have been mentioned on television, though some things havent, its the article in its entirity which illustrates he fully understands the nature of management and the game in General. I can fully understand the Sam Haters, I did when he was at Bolton and Newcastle, yet each time I hear him speak or make a comment, its in the main spot on, he knows his job and how to go about it and we are, for a club of our stature, very fortunate to have him as our manager. He may not always play pretty football but he can get results, hedging my bets a bit here, you would have seen much better performances from the national team with Sam in charge!!
Eddie Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Sorry, but that could have been Joe Blogs in a pub and on top of that it is him having a slight dig and being overlooked for the job and how it should be an Englishman.
thenodrog Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Is it me or have the constant whines for 4-4-2 from the resident sheep died a death along with England's campaign this world cup?
broadsword Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Nothing wrong with 4-4-2 if that is the system that best suits the players. However, the system that best suits the players seems to be Flight BA442 for Jamaica (and they don't have to go of their own accord).
BuckyRover Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 I wouldn't call it a slight dig. He sounds quite bitter.
Exiled in Toronto Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Well said Sam! This is worthy of a read (especially by the anti-Sam brigade). Shows that he really does know his stuff. Worthy of a read? It's exactly the same as every other article of his: 'When I were at Bowton and they should have given me the England job'
Eddie Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Is it me or have the constant whines for 4-4-2 from the resident sheep died a death along with England's campaign this world cup? ...I'm guessing I'm one of those sheep and I'm hardly going to be complaining about our formation when we aren't playing any games. I know you think that I complain a lot, but that would be a bit much, even for me.
ABBEY Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 4 4 2 all the way for me ,two wingers two strikers and attack. that article like as been said is bitter and advocates his long hoof and sleep tactics zzzzzzzzzzzz
Majiball Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Nice one Abbey. you've just reminded me of those two guys havinga kip during one match at Rovers last season, it had me in stitches.
thenodrog Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 4 4 2 all the way for me ,two wingers two strikers and attack. Dunno if you can remember it Abbs but you are actually advocating the long dead 4-2-4 formation.
