DudeAbides Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 He knew Friedel and Bentley were leaving, knew that the team was utter pants without them, and jumped ship. Our current situation is not Ince's fault, it is the results of how Hughes left us. Everyone says I'm talking sh*t, but I am willing to bet good money that the same thing will happen again. I don't want it to happen, but it will. People need to wake up and smell reality. give it a rest eh...
CrazyIvan Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Wow, someone sure has got a dislike for BFS! I must admit, hes not my favourite person but in all honesty I have to say I think that he is the right choice. In an ideal world we would all like a huge name to come in and turn Rovers into a top 4 club overnight but we've got to be realistic. Huge name managers come with huge price tags and very expensive shopping lists, which is way out from what we as a club can offer. Gone are the days when we can work on the money no object basis. BFS has a proven track record of getting results on a restricted budget at the highest level and this is something that we as club need. I would class the ability within our squad as greater than what he had a Bolton, and I just hope he recongnises this and we get the ball down and play a little rather than the more direct approach he used at Bolton. I just hope that at Bolton he used the tools he had to get the best out of them. We've got to get behind BFS and the team now 'cos we simply can't afford for this one to go wrong and we need everybody 100% behind the club. Agreed.

And how on Earth are these players, besides Dunn, Derbyshire and Tugay, going to be motivated to play for Blackburn Rovers when the manager himself is there only for his own interests? This is what I don't get - how do people expect the club to be united when the players who actually want to play for it are a sole minority?
Jan Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 And how on Earth are these players, besides Dunn, Derbyshire and Tugay, going to be motivated to play for Blackburn Rovers when the manager himself is there only for his own interests? This is what I don't get - how do people expect the club to be united when the players who actually want to play for it are a sole minority? Because, you silly person, his interests and ours coincide at the moment. He wants to be a success, we need him to be a success. What impresses me most is that Sam got the "i've been a manager for 10 years" certificate which equates to the UEFA pro licence and STILL went and did the course. Possibly on the grounds that he might just LEARN something??
Atty Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 He knew Friedel and Bentley were leaving, knew that the team was utter pants without them, and jumped ship. I don't want it to happen, but it will. People need to wake up and smell reality. Are you insane or on some strong medication? That's right it was not Ince fault it was all that nasty Hughes who had us finishing in the top half of the table on verry little money every season abit like sam did at Bolton. I agree that the board did not back Hughes like they should of done and with that we have not strengthened the squad but even so Ince is the one to blame just look at his signings would you trust Ince with any money I know I would not. We have a chance now under Sam more then we had under ince.

This is what I don't get - how do people expect the club to be united when the players who actually want to play for it are a sole minority? If hiring fans to manage football clubs worked then I daresay it would be a lot easier and cheaper for clubs! If Tony Parkes was the answer to this situation I bet we would have hired him. The fact is, you're only more comfortable with Souness because you think he's so desperate he couldn't possibly leave again. That's not a good thing. Both BFS and Souness left their clubs for Newcastle. What's the difference?
sambo Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Mr E, you have no idea! Big Sam's own interests is to make BRFC a success, I don't see the problem. You think when Hughes/Ince first joined us they felt any personal affection? Ince hated us in 97!
robborover Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Because, you silly person, his interests and ours coincide at the moment. He wants to be a success, we need him to be a success. What impresses me most is that Sam got the "i've been a manager for 10 years" certificate which equates to the UEFA pro licence and STILL went and did the course. Possibly on the grounds that he might just LEARN something?? Wow. That is admirable. I really think Sam will sort out the confidence, defensive and fitness issues within the squad. Williams summed it up at the week when he said something was missing. Ince had longer than he would have got at other clubs (Newcastle and Spurs spring to mind!), but something wasn't right. even if we go down fighting that's still better than we did last Saturday under Ince.
broadsword Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 he's an improvement on Ince. if he does the bizzo, no-one will be moaning. Let's face it, we're the Aldi of the Premiership, we spend more or less nothing and expect to get into Europe. Which is as ridiculous as it sounds. Good luck, Sam. We're right up teh creek so you'll need it.
Backroom DE. Posted December 17, 2008 Backroom Posted December 17, 2008 And how on Earth are these players, besides Dunn, Derbyshire and Tugay, going to be motivated to play for Blackburn Rovers when the manager himself is there only for his own interests? This is what I don't get - how do people expect the club to be united when the players who actually want to play for it are a sole minority? You must be on a wind up mate. Just stop it, you are not talking sense. I for one believe this is the correct appointment, and will at the end of the season prove to be the appointment which saves us from relegation.
Clitherover Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 he's an improvement on Ince. we're the Aldi of the Premiership Whereas under Ince we were the Woolworths.
Billy Castell Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The football may or may not be pretty, but who cares if we start winning. And we'll have the added bonus of p____ing off Arsene Wenger even more when we trample all over his delicate little flowers. I was critical of BFS in August, as there were more attractive sounding candidates and the memories of his time at the bar codes was fresh in my mind. Now however, he is the right man to organise the team, find cheap, good players and make us hard to beat. I felt we'd get him when Mr Williams said that someone would be in by Saturday as BFS is free to join without any complications and compensation. It would be interesting to see his choices on the coaching front. And whether he can shake up our youth set up.
super_arran Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I just can't stand him. His tactics, his interviews, the clubs he has managed... well we should of got Ruud Gullit then and had a bit of sexy football
Maverick Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Great news Best possible solution I think. Big Sam has shown before that he can turn things around and get results, so future looks better. Christmas came early this year
AndyC Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 welcome to the big man! I just hope the crowd gives you a tremendous reception and you get 3 points this weekend!
Shevchenko Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Finally some sense out of Ewood Park. This is good news and hopefully this move will prove just how big a mistake it was to pass on him in the summer. But he'll have his work cut out for him that's for sure. Uphill struggle already. He needs a lot of luck and all the support we can muster.
A cup of beans Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 i wanted souness, but i'm very pleased with allardyce's appointment. never liked anything about 'fat sam' , or his playing style, transfer policies and murky activities.... and desperately didnt him in the summer -but my only concern is rovers staying up - and this guy should be able to do it. i dont care how he does it either. i will have to keep referring to him as fat sam, cos itd be hypocritical not to wouldnt it.... ? i am left to ponder a few things.... 1. will he eventually abandon his negative style and tactics ? (he's admitted on tv recently that he is negative and cautious as a manager) 2. will he start talking to the bbc again ? radio lancashire will hoping he does. i think he has to. to help win more fans over! . welcome, sam... let battle commence!
speeeeeeedie Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Not my favourite but as long as he get us out of the $hit I'll be happy. We can at least expect our set pieces to improve, they've been woeful for years.
American Rover12 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Like Cocker said prior, I was against BFS in the summer, but now I think he's the best choice we could have made in such a time frame. When you look at available managers, he really is well suited to keep us up this year, which is all I can say I want for the club at this point. I think rallying behind the team is clutch now, and I'm kind of excited to see how he sculpts the team come Jan(but only if those EHD reports aren't for real) I'd expect a move to strengthen our central defence first , Tal Ben Haim anybody ? That'd be amazing if we could pull it but I doubt he'd come.
Derbyshire Blue Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 by far the best possible solution to our plight.... Souness would have been the nightmare scenario... Welcome on board Big Sam
