imy9 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 If it was your £300m, and given his record at Newcastle with money (Alan Smith? Cacapa? Rozenthal? Barton? Viduka?) then I think you would be thinking about a change at the helm .... ? He's a proven operator when purse strings are tight, but I'm not sure he's the man when you've got a significant budget. Alan Smith cost £6 million pounds and was last season their captain and played virtually every game. Cacapa- free transfer was a huge player for Lyon for FIVE years as their captain. Rozenhal- cost £2.9 million and they recouped... £2.9 million. Viduka- free transfer Barton- £5.8 million. Baye- £3 million, player of the season for Newcastle Point I'm going to make is that he did not spend that much money and the club has recouped a lot of that money back. His biggest transfer outlay was £8 million for Anelka at Bolton and they got DOUBLE back for him, based on what he has purchased so far I would trust him with money.

Bobby G Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Good points. There is a myth out there that he isnt good with funds, but as you illustrated, his record isnt half as bad as people make it out to be.

Isn't his most expensive signing still Nicolas Anelka?
AHoyle90 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Whatever the fees were at Newcastle, most of his signings there were poor lets be honest. He brought in much better players at Bolton and he hasnt made many bad signings here so far and unearthed some gems.
thenodrog Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Any new owners would be stupid to get rid of Allardyce. The world and it's mother now play 4-5-1 and with better players available we'd be bound to progress. Taken to silly extremes just for convenience imagine if we were staring the season with Drogba up top, Robben/Tevez in the hole and with Fabregas supplying the bullets for them to fire. It wont happen of course cos silly talk of £300m invested in BRFC was the kicker in defining this latest bid as just another load of old bolloxcks.

Stuart Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 If 'the world and it's mother now play 4-5-1' what makes Allardyce so special? Because he already knows how to do it...?
AHoyle90 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 We launch the ball into the box once we are in the oppositions half at most opportunities either from open play, or set peices. Hardly a master plan, but its worked so far, so how can we moan?

Majiball Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Sam has earnt the right by the new owners to have a shot at their tenure. I would give him the money to spend but be careful over the wages as despite the post above highlighting the pedigree of his signings at Newcastle, the majority were dross in this league. Progression would be the requirement as these days you will struggle to move too far up the table without having some finesse to your play. If I wanted to see a return on my money then I know we have to play a way that people will love and enjoy and not just within the walls of Ewood. To expand into markets a balance of guile and grit would be required and also to try and fill out the stadium. Syed must have someone advising him over football as he has no background and surely he isn't just jumping in head first. It would be interesting to know who this man is as his background could tell us a lot about the style he would endorse. He could have a big say on things. But also given the Trusts dealings to date and that Sam saved us from relegation I wouldn't be surprised to see them ask that he be given the opportunity. I think a lot on here accept the style because of the situation we find ourselves in, but with money to spend I also think they'd want a bit more on the pitch.
AHoyle90 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Because it's as dull as f**k? Granted it can be horrible to watch, but we still cant moan because of the league position last season. Even though we don't have money now, I'd still prefer us to mix it up a bit. By all means target Samba/N'Zonzi from set peices. But maybe once in a while rather than Robinson hoof the ball forward, throw the ball to the full backs and build play up a bit, keep possession. I firmly believe we have the players to play some decent football, especially if Dunn is fully fit.
Stuart Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Well he hasn't been on yet They did mention it about 10 mins after Maj's post. Either he got the hump about all the stick Robbo was getting, or hopefully, he's found a tenner down the back of the sofa and he's busy wheeler-dealing! I live in hope.
47er Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Because it's as dull as f**k? No need for anyone else to criticise Blackburn Rovers when we have our own fans to do it. In rebuttal what about Villa? (twice), Arsenal? Burnley? Bolton? (twice). Must be others I can't think of right now. Some matches were terrible to watch but your statement is all-embracing. Did you really not enjoy yourself at all? Don't you think we improved a lot as the season wore on? Wasn't it great to see young players given a chance and re-invigorating the team?
Majiball Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Well he hasn't been on yet They said something about reception and they would go back later, still nothing!! Hopefully he'll be on later, but in the meantime you can all laugh along with their mental idea's. Todays is all the england players should chip in to sack Capello.

Don't you think we improved a lot as the season wore on? Wasn't it great to see young players given a chance and re-invigorating the team? In general it was dull - apart from 6 games that were enjoyable out of a season of how many? My cup runneth over .... We did improve, from being unwatchable to mainly bearable with odd bit of decent stuff thrown in. Overall though, still nowhere near enough entertainment. As I've said before, the season looks a lot better on paper than bearing witness to it actually was. The young players were brought because of circumstance (injuries, suspensions etc) not from any great managerial masterstroke. It was heartening to see Phil Jones break through, and to be fair BFS stuck with him so credit for that.
imy9 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Why was hoilett bought? Nzonzi,Linganzi, di santo and Kalinic, thats five players under 22 plus the youngsters. We had Zurab and chimbonda who could play CB so why play Jones? Same for Olsson when Givet was available. Fact remains under Hughes and Ince the youth team players rarely got a look in, under Sam emphasis is on youth.
Majiball Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Has he been on yet? No, didn't hear him. Don't worry though I'm sure he'll be on again soon.

To be fair Ince did start introducing the youngsters, both Souness and Hughes seemed extremely averse to giving anyone a chance - the Academy almost might as well not have been there. Allardyce has expanded on that policy and for that credit is due whether it has been forced on him or not.
