joey_big_nose Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Having said all that, I think a marquee signing like a Beckham early doors would be a massive boost on a few levels; press attention, a sign of intent, shirt sales, attendances, exposure in foreign markets etc. I don't think it would do us any good at all (if it could happen! Which is a bit premature to talk about now!). Overheat expectation, get the circus going. Slowly, thoughtfully, skillfully and quietly. That is the best way to build a team.

LeChuck Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I don't think it would do us any good at all (if it could happen! Which is a bit premature to talk about now!). Overheat expectation, get the circus going. Slowly, thoughtfully, skillfully and quietly. That is the best way to build a team. Beckham is a fantastic professional and would be the perfect ambassador for the club though. We don't want any fancy-Dan Robinho type signings, but I think Beckham would be brilliant. If we moved him into a central midfield (Tugay-esque) role I reckon he'd have a good few years left in him.
joey_big_nose Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Big Sam would go for Beckham Good column. Arrogant obviously - that is part of Sam's schtick - but also highly realistic. Liked particularly that the would not be looking to hoof out players, but rather asking them to raise their game to maintain their place. Hardly revolutionary but nice to see in print.
JAL Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 We'll win sweet FA whoever is manager - we just don't have the players. I fear that until we've got a deeply-embedded, grass roots coaching system to rival the likes of Spain we're doomed for failure after failure on the international stage. Speaking of grassroots football i've been told a great story from a very close friend of Matty Derbyshire's about how Matty is pumping money which is more than a couple of thousand pounds into a local team of his mates. How good is that ! If all professional footballers pumped a bit of their time and money into local grassroots football, surely then as a country we would benefit far more from their input on so many levels.
1864roverite Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I get a sense from Ewood that the strategy is to play on the fact that no takever is done and dusted and that the club continue its normal business. Everything has gone quiet, Rovers are not flasshing the money and SA is continuing as normal, even the players are not involved in any comments regarding the potential money coming into the club. Add all of this to the fact that noone from the proposed new owners team are making any noises it all makes you wonder if something has finally happened regarding the sale and investment into the club. I dont think for one minute that SA is going to go straight out and splash massive money on a big named player. That just isnt the Rovers way.

BuckyRover Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 TheBig_Sam: "Nikola Kalinić said I should **** off each of the boys to get them ready for the game. Bit worrying. Gonna have to keep my eye on him."

92er Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Two up top for some games. My link It seems to be based on an article in today's LT.
AHoyle90 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Good to see he's actually considering two up front. I'm guessing it would have to be a holding midfielder and somebody with a bit of energy to get up and down the pitch to play as a pair in the middle.
roversfan99 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Id probably guess hed go for: E-Diouf Nzonzi Pedersen Olsson I dont think Dunn could play in that formation, unless we went for a narrower midfield, maybe a diamond, but that would mean dropping the 2 wide men who have proved to be part of our attacking threat. Perhaps Nzonzi sitting, Emerton right, Pedersen left and Dunn at the point(or even Hoilett)
Amo Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Id probably guess hed go for: E-Diouf Nzonzi Pedersen Olsson Pedersen & Nzonzi in the middle? Craig Gardner salutes you.
niggit Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Two up top for some games. My link Nice to see sky at there best, with the caring cup
MarkBRFC71 Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 TheBig_Sam: "There's only 2 words that could adequately describe the physical nature of my tumultuous affair with Princess Margaret in '89 - balls deep." Genius.
John Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Big Sam in NOTW. MORE money than ever is leaving the Premier League and I've not spent a penny of it! We even had one agent ringing us recently wanting to renegotiate an existing contract of his client because the tax boundaries had changed! My chairman had to say "Look, I'm sorry, we can't do anything about the laws of the land - a contract is a contract."
Billy Castell Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Cheeky ___s. Anyway, I believe Sam is as good as, if not better than Martin O'Neill. The latter has been over rated by the media since getting Leicester promoted, and is often bigged up despite his efforts at Villa, and his 1 way of playing the game.
