BuckyRover Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I was instantly annoyed but I'm with shilito on this. His comments about us buying the title were unfortunate but this is pretty funny. It was headline news on the BBC website and the F365 letters page was hilarious. Everybody thinks he is being serious, I don't.
Silencio Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I think these comments are ###### funny, just as his "I'm the expert" comments were last year...
thenodrog Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 No one knows the context that was said in as the reporters forgot to use a smiley. But as long as he manages us well who cares? Bit like if Rooney were to come to BRFC and score 25 goals a season. He could spend every night dressed in a Burnley kit cruising Bank Top in a fully kitted out camper van as far as I am concerned.
Miker Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Sam can say what he wants to the media - couldn't give a damn what the media print it as though. People can think what they want about Rovers, it doesn't bother me if we're making the top 10 every season and frustrating the big four. I find it bizarre people expect anything from Sam when it's well known that no one wanted him at the club and at least half the fans still want him out. Not to mention that the majority of the league dislike him as well. I don't think he's said anywhere that Blackburn is awful and he pisses on our name, nor is he actually looking for a different job. As it stands, if he wants to publically state that he's not ###### and could manage any club in spite of the criticism laid on him, then all power to him.
Bobby G Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Has anyone noticed how his comments have diverted attention from the take-over? You can read into that if you would like...
S15 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Has anyone noticed how his comments have diverted attention from the take-over? You can read into that if you would like... I'll read absolutely nothing into like most people should. It's a flippant statement made in the spur of the moment, maybe subconsciously preempt, but still said for personal amusement. "Er Sam, what's happening with the takeover?" "I could manage Real Madrid me..." THIS didn't happen, we have to accept that by and large, nobody outside of Blackburn and Dawen really gives much of a s**t about the takeover.
ABBEY Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Just read the interview..he's making himself look like a proper pleb now.mike basset.
Stuart Ripley Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 if you don't think we are lucky to have him then you're a nob end of in my book. opinions on his character are allowed however, it's completely different. Mourinho or Ferguson anyone?
T4E Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 if you don't think we are lucky to have him then you're a nob end of in my book. opinions on his character are allowed however, it's completely different. Mourinho or Ferguson anyone? If you're genuinely comparing him to two multiple time European champions then you're as bad as he is.
MarkBRFC71 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 if you don't think we are lucky to have him then you're a nob end of in my book. opinions on his character are allowed however, it's completely different. Mourinho or Ferguson anyone? He's done OK given our meagre funds, however he should consider himself lucky that a well run club like Rovers, with reasonable supporter expectations offered him the job, given the complete debacle at he presided over at Newcastle. As for his most recent comments - if they're tongue-in-cheek and meant in jest, then fine. If he's being serious then he's just gone up 2 or 3 levels on the cock-o-meter (1) for coming out with comments like that while Rovers manager, and (2) for actually believing them. He's got marginally more chance than me or anyone else on this messageboard of ever managing England, Real Madrid or Inter Milan.
S15 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 TheBig_Sam... "Received a fax from Real Madrid this morning. Just said: "El @#/?o gordo". Wonder if it's a job offer. I'll get it translated and reply." :D
thenodrog Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 if you don't think we are lucky to have him then you're a nob end of in my book. opinions on his character are allowed however, it's completely different. Mourinho or Ferguson anyone? 3. How about Cloughie! Modesty was hardly his middle name was it? How did you rate him Abbey? Apart from greats from other era's like Ramsey, Shanks and Paisley most top managers seem to have large ego's. No doubt with the intensity of criticism they all have to face these days (rem their own fans turn on the likes of Wenger and RFW whenever they hit a poor streak) I'd imagine a large ego is a necessary quality.
rebelmswar Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Theno, the difference is they have more silverware than they know what to do with. Not to say I don't enjoy Sams quips, throwing out some crackers Prince Phillip would be proud.
Exiled in Toronto Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Apart from greats from other era's like Ramsey, Shanks and Paisley most top managers seem to have large ego's. ...therefore managers with large egos are great.
thenodrog Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 ...therefore managers with large egos are great. No but it obviously is a common trait. Why the silly smiley? The guy is an idiot. Really koi? Very well constructed criticism, and very eloquent too I'm sure. You've obviously employed a lot of thought before you posted your comment. So what terms would you use to describe the last manager?
Mattyblue Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Please, I'm pleading with my fellow man. Can we not have 'Real Madrid will be on the blower after that' 'Attacking football out of the Madrid handbook' Ad nauseum after every poor result/performance.

I think the big-headed galoot may have brought that on himself?
LeChuck Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I think the big-headed galoot may have brought that on himself? I don't think Sam reads this... It's just the rest of us poor souls that would have to put up with the constant poor attempts at humour.
imy9 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 He has produced a scowling, muscular, intimidating side, much loved by the kind of people who don't much care for football and enjoyed watching Bolton. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1313278/PATRICK-COLLINS-Pity-poor-foreigners-Sam-Allardyce-gets-way.html? Collins is a t***
Mattyblue Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Collins has never had a good word to say about Allardyce, or Rovers for that matter. But all this mockery of Sam is yet another chance for the club to be patronised. Williams needs to get him to shut his mouth and quickly.
1864roverite Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I have emailed the special one over in spain to see if a work exchange can be agreed between Rovers and Real. after all, sam has guaranteed trophies for the spaniards whilst us at Ewood would be sure to see some football being played on the floor, we may not win anything but by christ we would see some football. I do think that some of the players must have swapped his normal gum for caffiene loaded gum either that or ot was loaded with ecstacy

You seem to be under the impression that Mourinho plays stylish football....
