That's not my argument at all. Try having another go.

You said Bellamy's transfer fee of £5m was "near as dammit" the same as Kalinic's £6m transfer fee, so how is that not your argument?

Bellamy cost 4m and was sold for 6m as I recall.

Comparing Hughes to Allardyce is a very inexact science. Sam has probably had it even harder than Hughes in the transfer market but imo the majority of Sparky's buys were a lot better than Sam's to date.

Hughes also was far more successful on the pitch than Sam has been to date, again imo. That's not to say that Sam hasn't done a very decent job of keeping us afloat despite the current owners recent stance.

Numbers are constants they aren't contextual.

Rubbish!

The amount of money spent has to be put in the context of the conditions of the transfer market at that time.

Transfer fees inflated quite considerably from when Hughes bought Bellamy to when Allardyce bought Kalinic. Look around at how much clubs are paying for strikers, £6 million doesn't go far anymore - gone are the days when you can buy quality like Bellamy/McCarthy etc at a good age for < £5 million.

Are you now talking about the window Bentley left or you still arguing that RSC, who hadn't played in months, was a £17m talent loss blow to Sam?

Santa Cruz was definitely a huge loss, as was Bentley. They haven't done much at their new clubs, but they were integral to our team and would've continued to be so, injuries allowing.

Santa Cruz might have been initially bought for very little, but point me to a club, any club, that has been able to buy a striker for that amount NOW that has managed to score 20+ goals a season. I can't think of any.

Regardless, Sam has brought in players on the cheap who have now become an integral part of the team in their place, such as E Diouf, Salgado and Givet. N'zonzi is another great signing that is also a potential long-term investment, just as Kalinic is.

There's no point comparing when times have changed and we find ourselves under different circumstances compared to a few years ago. The main point to make is that Hughes did an excellent job while he was here and Sam has now continued it.

Hughes didn't have to work in a league of clubs with huge budgets though. Pretty sure clubs like Sunderland, Birmingham, Stoke, Man City, even Spurs didn't have the squads or the money they had when Hughes was here.

There was also a massive global financial crisis between those times period, take Man City out of the picture and clubs on the whole have been spending less than they were when Hughes bought Bellamy.

Here's a report about this years spending drop (I believe the trend was the same the year before).

Sunderland have spent over £20 million on their strike force in the last 12 months. Wolves have spent £10 million. Wigan bought a £6 million striker this summer without having to sell first. Stoke spent £8 million on Jones.

I could go on, but I shan't. Those sort of mid-table clubs were not spending that kind of money at the time we were paying £5 million for Bellamy. It's a different market. We signed Craig Bellamy when he was 26. A 26 year old Bellamy would have gone for a hell of a lot more than £6 million had he moved last year (when we bought Kalinic).

First things first Sam has done and is going a good job. The problem for me is that i do not like the style of football being played at this present time. If the results are good then is ok, however if the results are not so good there is nothing esle to put in sam corner, ie good football which is played on the floor.

Every page I find says £5m. We sold him for £6m. However, I was closer with £6m than those who said £3.75m.

And I was closest still by actually stating it was £5m in the first place
