rebelmswar Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Do you understand irony? Is that the thing my wife does when she's not cooking my dinner?

Amo Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Is that the thing my wife does when she's not cooking my dinner? Close enough.
Miker Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 First things first Sam has done and is going a good job. The problem for me is that i do not like the style of football being played at this present time. If the results are good then is ok, however if the results are not so good there is nothing esle to put in sam corner, ie good football which is played on the floor. That's right, so every time we lose a game we should have a giant moan.
S15 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Is that the thing my wife does when she's not cooking my dinner? No, that's the postman.
rebelmswar Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Wondered why she is so tired. Don't mind like, your ma takes most of my energy.
Miker Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 There was also a massive global financial crisis between those times period, take Man City out of the picture and clubs on the whole have been spending less than they were when Hughes bought Bellamy. Here's a report about this years spending drop (I believe the trend was the same the year before). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11137613 This literally proves nothing. The big four clubs have spent very little this year, Arsenal aside, and this has contributed to the drop in total spending. Man U and Liverpool have fairly high debts according to reports posted on here previously, while Chelsea barely needed to strengthen. Even Spurs have spent little this year, having spent HUGE amounts the previous year. It is the OTHER clubs in the league that HAVE spent big in the years following Hughes' departure.
rebelmswar Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Fairly risky joke. Sorry if I offended. Not intentional. I mean what if the postman was my dad or similar, all jokes have risk when it comes to such.

We were debating transfer fees for players, that is defined by market forces. If clubs are spending less, they can't demand as much for players they are selling. Please check the context of the conversation we were having...
rebelmswar Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 You didn't offend, but see how I got you back for the mum joke? By making you 'effing uncomfortable. Nah, I had a great comeback for you if you tried the "She's dead" route. Have to say, my inordinate respect for you, not to mention your superior linguistic skills, hindered implementation though. I shall return to my hole and watch your debating nemisis smash the record for the amount of posts in one day.
47er Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 1. I've been critical where I feel it's justified, and I've always given my reasons for being so. 2. I can't advocate sacking him now because I don't think it's the right thing to do. 3. I don't like the man and his brand of football and I would not be sorry to see him go if the takeover went through. 4. See point 1 above. It's a messageboard, for people to express their opinions. Mine differs from yours - deal with it like an adult instead of a petulant 4-year-old having a bitchstrop. Unfortunately you're not on your own in that respect on here these days. It was a genuine question, and I'm not the first to raise it. It's not pointless if it turns out to have some substance and he ends up leaving either? I take it you never look at or post on the transfer thread? Isn't that just 'pointless speculation'? Instead of looking at point scoring via petty snipes please just don't bother posting. You forgot to add that that you are a very boring person who will make the same points forever so I'll accept your instruction not to post further on what has becomes a mind-numbing thread thanks to you and your mate.
BuckyRover Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I bet that you both post further. You can't help yourselves
Yorick Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 That wasn't my point and you know it. But if you want names, Alan Curbishly and Avram grant. Alan Curbishley wouldn't have come past the Watford Gap and since then Avram Grant has taken down a potless Portsmouth and is now just 12 months later currently in the bottom 3 with a similarly borassic West Ham Utd. Which sane person would dare to gamble that he could do a better job here than the current manager?
Miker Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 We were debating transfer fees for players, that is defined by market forces. If clubs are spending less, they can't demand as much for players they are selling. Please check the context of the conversation we were having... You clearly disregarded my point, which was that the TOTAL spending in the Premier League this summer would've been lower due to the usual big spenders (Chelsea, Man U, Spurs etc.) spending less this season on new players, since they had already spent money in previous years. It might also show that prices have become so bloated recently that no one wants to pay the prices being asked. I also asked you to show me a club that has bought a striker for under 3 million that has managed to score at least 15 goals in the league. It has to be kept in mind that Kalinic was signed as a long-term investment, given his young age and his label of "the future of Croatian football". So the 6 million spent is a reasonable amount. He was also the only striker signed to replace Santa Cruz, McCarthy and Derbyshire (besides Benjani who has only signed recently, and our loan strikers). It's a near impossible task for any manager to sign a replacement for two strikers who had been 20-goal-a-season strikers. Mark Hughes didn't have a decimated midfield to work with either. Only midfielder we have left from Hughes' era is Dunn and he's plagued by injury. By the time Sam came in we were virtually without a midfield and a strike force. The amount of injuries we had under Ince was a horror show and Sam had to inherit that mess... I'm not taking anything away from Mark Hughes here, he did a tremendous job. He bought some fine players, got some brilliant results and is still probably the manager I have the most affinity to.
Paul Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Lost me awhile ago, when I left to pray at my Sam alter. Did it work or are we still stuck with him?

Exiled in Toronto Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 It has to be kept in mind that Kalinic was signed as a long-term investment, given his young age and his label of "the future of Croatian football". So the 6 million spent is a reasonable amount. I'm beginning to think that the "Future of Croatian Football" quote is like one of those outside West End theatres where the missing context of the quote usually contains the word "not" and conveys a completely different interpretation. Perhaps he went on to say, "...which shows just what a mess we are in" or somesuch. Yet again against Blackpool I thought Nico was the epitome of the word 'lightweight'. I can't imagine any centre half this season will have described him as a handfull. Jury's still definitely out on Allardyce's biggest signing.
rebelmswar Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Did it work or are we still stuck with him? Sam is a leach to the psyche – he cannot be removed without spilling some of your soul.

To be fair though the poor lad always looks as though he's thinking "What the **** have I done" It cant be much fun moving to a new country, The World's toughest league and get shoved up front on your own for a side that creates the bare minimum of chances and the ball's constantly coming down with snow on it. I dont think it's a case of Allardyce spending big on a poor player, I just wonder if he's right for a team like Rovers.
booth Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Alan Curbishley wouldn't have come past the Watford Gap and since then Avram Grant has taken down a potless Portsmouth and is now just 12 months later currently in the bottom 3 with a similarly borassic West Ham Utd. Which sane person would dare to gamble that he could do a better job here than the current manager? That's a bit unfair, Portsmouth were dead and buried by the time he took over, and he got them playing very well. And with all the turmoil going on behind the scenes too. I can't really comment about West Ham as he's only been there two minutes. He did however take Chelsea to a major cup final. Okay they got beat but I thought the sacking of him was VERY harsh. I'd like to see Keegan back in management, because I think he gets teams playing good football. A caveat of course is that he tends to run away at the first sign of a problem.
Torgeir Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Anyone know where to fin a large pic of Sam's rodeo celebration against Blackpool? I want it as my new desktop background And a .gif if anyone has made one. Cheers!
