Laudrup was interested in another jobas well, I forget which, and there were stories about him insisting on a clause allowing to move to any Spanish club that became interested. Assuming that is true, he may have wanted the same clauses with us. And then it would have been Craig Bellamy all over again.

As for Mancini, as someone pointed out somewhere, he won the titles had no challenge from Juve and AC Milan. He also had Sinsa Maijilovic as assistant, an utterly vile little man, and had a reputation for crap man management.

Who cares about clauses from Laudrup? If a manager wants to leave, he can leave. Look at what happened with Hughes. And if Laudrup was attracted away then it wouldve meant we were doing a damn sight better than we were under Ince. That was possibly the worst decision taken at Rovers for a long time, well either Laudrup or HTC.

But either way, no reason to talk about that anymore as that was the previous appointment.

Even though I've been pro-Sam for a while (not as long as some but for as long as we've been in trouble), hearing about Mancini has made me think somewhat if JW made the right move.

But no, this time he has made the right move. Allardyce has a track record, he knows how to manage. And Mancini was last spotted taking English lessons. Whatever Mancini's managerial abilities, he wouldn't have been at his best while trying to get to grips with the lingo and the culture. Had it been last summer (or next summer following a successful short-term rescue job) I would've been once again been cursing JW's decisions but this is the best move.

Apologies for that mistake, got the wrong Moscow club.

By any measure our position in the League is desperate. When you are in as much relegation trouble as we are, wins become imperative. And if we don't win with the new boss effect on our side, the situation becomes unbelievably grim.

Not only wrong Moscow club, but he's brought them in the wrong direction. 2nd place each of the past 3 years, now in 8th.

Bought three tickets today for Saturday on the news of Sam appointment... lets get behind the lads... now I want to see him in charge from pitchside and not just watching from the stand.. no time for that!! When Hughes took over priority was stopping the goals going in and staying up ..no change.. sod the style for the rest of this season Ince has left us with no choice.... points are most important thing... come on Sam do your stuff and sort our team out!!

at first I was pro PI and his team played some good football however we play good losing football. with SA we might play ugly football but it will be wining football ( i hope).

Rovers will go back to being hard to beat, and the players will know what is expected of them. So for me its the right man at the right time.

If you think Stoke isn't decisiveyou had better check the league table and the fixture list.

Win that and the ball is rolling.

Anything less...and it's over.

Hardly nicko. Come on fella. It'll take time to get the players fit again and in tune with what Sam will want us to do (i.e. win.) as old habits die hard.

The situation we're in is down to the previous manager who should have gone earlier. Perhaps you and some of your colleagues at The Mirror (and the rest of the press) should have mentioned that a little earlier instead of banging on about Ince needing more time. Now he's gone your proclaiming we're well and truly in the sh!t. Well spotted. If only having a young English manager in charge actually meant anything.

Oh and as Blackpool Rover pointed out the speed in which this was sorted out does little for newspaper sales does it? That's not a dig, that's a fact. Thank God they've done it though, and got exactly the right man IMO who will give us the best chance of staying up. Mancini? Laudrup? Ha! I'm sure they'd be up for a scrap in this part of the world!

So welcome Sam. Good luck. It's a tall order. The squad isn't performing to the best of it's capabilities but that's why you've been hired. Let's fight all the way.

9/10 of all posts towards me are personal attacks, while I have not insulted a single person.

I'm not at the least bit offended, because as I said the exact same thing has happened before, and I was right. There's nothing much to say anymore, besides the fact that people will vent their anger and blame anyone other than themselves.

OK, you've made your point. Thanks for your input. All the best. You can go now. Ice hockey isn't so bad. Personally I've always liked Rubgy League. In the meantime though I'm a Blackburn Rovers fan and I can't ever see that changing no matter what division we're in and who's in charge. Sorry you don't feel the same. Take care.

every manager will make atleast a couple of bad signings..

when he managed bolton it was in similar circumstances to us now(regarding the finances)-so i believe he will again show that he has an eye for a bargain..

he did wonders at bolton with unknown players like abdoulaye faye, ben haim and meite-so hopefully that will continue here..

After sinking an enormopus amoiunt of ale tonight, I ave t say that you a knob of t4 highestt order.

sam wil take our clubb foirward unlike ince who sees decline as a move forward.

i expect knoxx and mattias to go and a new backroom staff installed that will propel rovers forward.

Rovers and sam will make progress :rover:

Since I've heard from quite a few people that JW looks at this board, and that fan reaction was one of the main reasons he didn't appoint Allardyce, I thought it'd be interesting to have a poll of peoples' opinions.

I was dead against him in the summer but looking back I was wrong. Given the time I know he will save us from relegation. We were all too quick to dismiss him and didn't see the similarities between him and Hughes. Gritty character, with a reputation for getting results despite unattractive football and a few inspired signings - Okocha, Anelka...even Kevin Davies.

When he left Newcastle they were still relatively safely mid table but it was only after he left that they got well into the relegation dogfight.

I only hope he's not been turned off by what happened last time, but I read an interview in The Times and he is chomping at the bit to get back into football. We'd be the perfect fit for him and I'm sure he knows it.

Who's with me?

Just out of interest - I made this first post in the thread after seeing this Times interview - did anyone else read it?

Was a big spread but can't find it online, really made me change my mind about him being some old school hoofer.

I'm delighted with the appointment. We are in deep trouble, but we've given ourselves the best chance at getting out of the poo.

Very well said sir.

From Mr Souness's no. 1 fan.

:tu:

I think so too.

But it transpired that I along with the Board were wrong about Ince, so I hope we don't get it wrong twice running.

I think before ince I wudn't of chosen big sam but given our current situation i dont think we should be aiming to play attractive football.

I think its time we got back to basics and i think sam will be similar to hughes, given his analysis of the game and that he will first make us hard to beat like he did with bolton. then i think he will get us playing good football because we do have players with flair like mccarthy, villanueva and dunn. i just hope he doesnt turn rocky into another long ball target man like donkey davis.

I know this isn't wise, but looking beyond possible survival this season, IF Sam can do with us what he did with Bolton, he could be with us for some time.

I dont think he's going to be nearly as attractive a proposition for bigger clubs, they'll see his percieved failure at Newcastle together with his successes at Bolton and (if it happens) with us and see him as a tailor-made man for smaller clubs. He'll never be fashionable enough for the bigger teams.

Radio Lancs are so Burnley biased do you think they are bothered

That's my impression of Radio Lancs as well but Andy Bayes did the recent Matt Jansen night at The Hordens and the "Evening with the Stars" event at Ewood.

At both he came across as passionate and extremely knowledgeable about Rovers.

Unless he is a consummate professional and equally tuned in to the Dingles/PNE etc.

I'm worried about this appointment.

I don't want Rovers to become the patchwork XI. It would be terrible if Allardyce starts signing short-term veterans to pad the squad, as he did with Bolton.

I know staying up is crucial but I just fear that Allardyce and his mobile phone contact list of weird and wonderful agents will take us down a very depressing road. I don't want our team to lose its identity and simply become a flock of flotsam, washed up from the transfer market ocean, who are only here to get a big move as soon as possible. That's how it was at Bolton.

I understand what you're saying but I had the impression Bolton had bigger name players at the Reebok than we had at Ewood during Sam's time at Bolton. As for the idea the players are just looking for a big move? If one's honest doesn't that apply to every player. Take RSC for instance, he seems a decent guy but if City come knocking he's not going to turn them down on the basis of loyalty to Rovers. The same applies to the whole squad with a very few exceptions. It's just modern football and why the connection bewteen fan a nd player was lost years back
