[Archived] Sam Allardyce

Recommended Posts

Unless there is money to spend there is no realistic alternative to Allardyce. There is no creativity, guile or pace in midfield so lump it and hope for errors is the only tactic with this bunch of players. I cannot think of any coach/ manager who could get this lot playing fluent, pass and move football. However if funds become available Sam's transfer record both here, at Toon and even previosly suggests he is not to be entrusted and should be shown the door. The rest of the PL teams - even Pool and WBA - are playing football to score goals and get positive results. Now even refs are wising up to the penalty area thuggery that worked against Fulham and fouls are given against Rovers for offences most other teams would get away with. Plan A is failing and there is no Plan B.

And you sir are a moron for not lightening up and taking things overly seriously. Do you REALLY think I'm condoning suicide?

I made the admittedly stupid comment to highlight the fact that things won't change. Everyones suggestions on what needs to change etc, it won't do; so I concocted a ridiculous scenario suggesting drastic measures which ultimately wouldn't change a thing.

People on here have nothing better to do than to be overly serious and act like they are superior. Sorry for having a joke you didn't find humorous, I've given my opinions about Rovers and thought I'd make a comment lacking any form of serious implications. If you don't have the mental/emotional capacity to understand the difference between a serious and ridiculous comment then that's your issue.

You have the nerve to call me a moron? I have observed multiple instances of people committing suicide or murder for reasons of fanaticism, so no I don't find the suggestion for people to do it the least bit funny. I come on the board for discussion, not to read senseless comments. Maybe you should try using that material in your stand up routine? I'm sure it will blow over well with the crowd. If I want to read funny posts on this forum, I'll refer to shillito's. Even waggy's and abbey's posts are humorous... yours? Not so much ;)

People get offended by lots of things, I have the right to be offended by this. PEOPLE act like they are superior? YOU just lay down a personal attack on me and my mental/emotional capacity for finding something you said personally offensive.

Being offended means nothing. It gives you no extra rights. I have sympathy for what you make claims to have been through, but the guy was making a joke.

Anyway, moving on...

I thought it was funny to be honest. It conjured up the image of theno subsequently sacrificing himself in a last ditch attempt to make the people of Blackburn appreciate the subtle nuances of Sam's unique brand of football.

No chance. If I'm ever on the edge of the Blackburn End stand it'll just be to crap on those below. On the basis that whoever I hit would deserve it. :P

However it really does go OTT sometimes on here, it's not football fans being fickle, for some it's a personal hatred issue. There also appears to be a lack of understanding that when you have almost no money to spend, it does provide limitations and make it a fairly difficult job!

I think Nicko will confirm that Allardyce was chasing players all summer but with no finance ever being put his way. What more could he do? It seems obvious with the lack of finance that he received that the Walker Trust must have imagined that a sale would have gone through by now and they'd be well out of it.

No one in the final stages of selling a house with the price agreed would buy a brand new kitchen would they?

We have Hoilett & Olsson, who are quick on their feet. If we actually encouraged them to get forward, maybe we'd have some pace going forward.

For what it's worth I think you are going over the top miker. I'll agree the joke wasn't very funny at all but it's obvious no offence was intended. If you did indeed take offence then I'm sure you were in the minority.

Does nobody find it odd how Hoilett has gone absolutely crap since he blackmailed us into giving him a lucrative new contract? I had high hopes for him but he's gone downhill at an alarming rate. <_<

No that's not what happened. We had X to spend and always had that amount. Sam ran round all summer chasing players that cost X*3 and then moaning about how we couldn't afford them when he found out that the selling clubs weren't prepared to sell for chicken feed.

Sam must have been under the impression that he could get them to release more funds, but he wouldn't be the first to try and fail. I'm sure the releasing of funds for Salgado made him think he could do it again this summer.

When it became clear he couldn't do it it was too late.

Partly true, but it assumes he was a good player before you/I/many around here saw him. Still, interesting how he seems to get nothing like the flak for taking money out of the club as folk like MGP get (and in ££s per mins on the pitch or ££s per contribution to the first team I'd wager he costs more).

Eh? Pedersen earns upwards of £40k p/week for his non-performances and he's our star player. ;)

Hoilett doesn't even get a fair crack by Sam. He usually brings him on when we're chasing the game. The lad's never been given a decent run in the side to prove himself.

Corrected for you. ;)

Having said that, he was largely crap before he signed, and his descent into mediocrity once he'd secured his lucrative payday was predicted by several members of the mb.

Hoilett deserves a chance but where? It'd have to be up front as you couldn't drop EHD at the mo ....

No embargo---just no money.

What's strange is that apparently Sam squeezed money out of the board during pre-season with his ultimatum - money that could have been put towards Popov. I take it this was frozen when the takeover talks began? It seems ridiculous and small-minded for the Trust to hold back, what, £1.5m for one investment?

Agree that that is how it seems. My biggest gripe with Sam is his dealings this summer in the transfer market. He knew the score, he knew what it cost to get Salgado (in effect Warnock) so to not be looking at the bargain end of things really was an error.

Perhaps even more so, is the fact we have not brought in bar N'Zonzi any midfield or strikers who suit our system. If we're going to play long ball then a big strong lad up front might be an asset, as is midfielders with pace who can get up and support him. Neither type of player has arrived at Ewood. Heck, even Kuqi would be better suited to our style then the current crop of strikers.

Alternatively we perhaps could play to our main striker's strengths, and fashion tactics round what we have, if the type of players for Sam's preffered system isn't available.

Having said that we can't really get in better than Sam at the moment, anyone else would be a massive risk, so Sam's probably here to stay for the forseeable future.

A lack of quality isn’t to blame for our poor football – it’s the manager. The average number of passes for a Premier League team this season is 2,811. Arsenal and Chelsea predictably lead the way with 4,086 and 4,026 respectively. We have managed 1,559 passes – only Stoke have managed fewer with 1,558. Blackpool (2,863), WBA (2,560) and Wigan (2,869) put us to shame. The average number of shots is 95. Arsenal (134) and Chelsea (133) have managed the most, while Rovers have managed a pathetic 69 – only Wolves have managed fewer. We’ve managed 4 goals from open play (both of Kalinic’s were from horrendous keeping errors rather than creative genius) and been helped with 2 goals from set pieces and a couple of own goals. The fact we’ve only scored 2 goals from set pieces suggests we’re not even good enough at them either. Sam has done a job keeping us up – let’s now look for someone who can take us on and even make us slightly enjoyable to watch.

I'm not sure how you can prove that the number of completed passes is down to the manager, rather than the players. It could be either or both, couldn't it?

Den you are really scraping the barrel.

I suppose we could blame the media for documenting the stats. Didn't somebody say we had the worst pass completion rate in both the Premiership AND Championship? It's completely embarrassing and solely the responsibilty of the manager. But hey, he uses ProZone so will already know where we are deficient and what to do to rectify it. (Probably more long throw practice for Peds)
