There's some theories buzzing around here that Sam changed his tactics yesterday for the onlooking Indians. It has a ring of truth to it, I must say, and yet it would make Sam look like the biggest schmuck going. It was our best performance this season bar none; we pressed the ball with poise and purpose, and actually got men forward. And *THIS* was Sam compromising his ethics?

Makes you think...

Its not made you think.

Its not made you think.

Why?

We've played like turd most of the season, without a crumb of ambition shown by the manager. Then comes a high-profile game, with all eyes on Big Sam, and we play our best football of the season and none of the long-throw crap either. Maybe Sam was visited by three ghosts during the night?

So it's pure coincidence that Sam bucked his ideas up on the same day the Indians were a-watching?

If I didn't know your agenda, I would think this was "unbelievable".

I'll explain again later, but carry on for now - it's quite entertaining.

We played well in the first half against Arsenal earlier this season I thought. Must admit it was interesting that we stopped doing long-throws, maybe Big Sam realised we never do anything from them or maybe it was to mix things up a bit because teams expect us to take long throw-ins all the time now.

Sorry Topman but you've been trumped big style. From the Mail on Saturday.....

"Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is looking forward to todays match and believes Blackburn are far from the rough-and-tumble merchants some will have fans believe. He said: Tactically, Blackburn are one of the best teams in England. If I was the Blackburn coach I would like to use the same style. They are physical but they are also very good players. I never complain about them I like the challenge they provide. Sam Allardyce is doing a good job. "

Allardyce hopes to have curried favour with gutsy Chelsea performance

...“I would hope they’d have been impressed because when you produce a performance like that against the best in the league, it’s got to excite everybody,” said Allardyce.

Certainly seems to me that Sam hopes to have impressed the prospective new owners with the surprisingly positive performance. Don't think many on here seen that level of performance coming. I have no idea why we seen no long throw-ins, more pressing of the man on the ball and a distinct drop in desperate punts up field. Only Sam does. It does make sense that a man who has been rumoured to be under pressure would try and impress the Venky boys.

Whats more strange is that he knows we can play that well so why dont we more often?

Lets hope he keeps up the tactical approach against Wigan. For me, and I am sure many other Rover supporters, it is absolutely key we come out with the same style of attacking play and we get at least a draw. Anything else and it will be very difficult for Sam over the coming month takeover or not.

Thats fine if Wigan adopt the same tactics and formation as Chelsea jbn. I've not seen all that much of them yet so do you think they will?

Pre season planning would have the Chelsea fixture down as a likely loss on the calendar therefore there was nothing to lose by having a go at them. If Chelsea get 3 points against us then so what it does not interfere with our position whereas the Wigan fixture is probably more important as a 'must not lose to a rival' game. Call it skewed logic as there is no such thing as a six point fixture but Wigan is an early six pointer.

Same tactics that we've been playing most of the season JBN?

4-5-1 with two men coming in from wide positions to support the front man?

Of course, when you truly believe that the teams orders are fully based on "aimless punting" - and "Sam doesn't know any other way to play, he did it at Bolton, Newcastle and now here", it becomes awfully difficult to see what's happening on the park. When you can't see that the team have played some good passing football at times, it's because you have become blinded by pre-existing bias.

Keep 'em coming.

I don't have any "agenda", but if that's all you can rely on for an argument then well done. ;)

I didn't think you would be naive enough to take an opposition manager's opinion at face value.

Nope, doesn't ring any bells.

I'm not surprised.

Still when your reasoning is that Sam can change tactics to playing good, attractive football, at will - and just to impress new buyers, but he really believes that boring, losing, hoofball is the best way to go, I'm not surprised at anything.

Then explain, Den, why the drastic improvement in performance?

It's quite amazing how Sam's presence at the club has changed people from interesting contributors to repetitive trolls. Shame really.

And how Sam's apologists think of any slur to prevent constructive criticism?

Your contribution to this thread consists of denigrating anyone with less than unequivocal support of the manager.

I assume that if we play against Wigan with the same tempo and desire as we did against Chelsea, then there will be no criticism. When a good performance is pulled out of the bag you have to ask why we didn't play like that previously? I certainly hope the manager is asking that question.

The trolls LeChuck, who have been filling loads of topics with anti Sam comments, are now so struggling to explain Saturday's performance.

Sam said it himself!!

If you mean his comments about him hoping the new owners enjoyed the performance, that's a million miles from saying he admits he's a long ball merchant and that he changed tactics for this single game Bucky.

I'm still waiting for an explanation, Den.

Why the sudden change in our playing style (first half, at least)?

Why did we cut-back on the mindnumbing long-throws that pollute every game?

This just happened to come together at the same time the potential owners were watching from the stands?

I could post this on literally any thread, but I'll opt for here as Den has just given me a nice example. Why is it that when somebody voices an opinion or concern and it happens to go against what another poster thinks, do they resort to branding them a troll or having an 'agenda'? What is this current trend agenda nonsense about? We all want what is best for our club. It just seems plain churlish and adds nothing to a debate - it's merely name calling. It adds nothing. The last refuge of a scoundrel perhaps. I'm all for healthy debate and differing opinions but why not just counter the argument as opposed to insults. Rep hunting? Ego massaging? I'm stumped. Not everything is so black and white. Give grey a chance.

Don't think I've never known this message board with such a poor atmosphere- not suprising at all with the palava of the last few months.

So... Allardyce turned on the good football tap because VH were in the crowd? NURSE!
