SouthAussieRover Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I'll stick my neck out here and say I think it's a good appointment. From his Bolton days he seems adept at managing an unfashionable club with a small transfer budget. He's a history of being based with northern clubs as opposed to some big time charlie from darn sarf so can identify with the area. Whether he has enough time to undo the damage of the past few months remains to be seen.

SouthAussieRover Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Since when was Dudley in the North? It's north of Watford.

leftfooter Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 By dithering so long over Ince's dismissal John Williams virtually ensured the loss of a good 9 points. He also wasted precious time that would have allowed the new manager to settle in his new backroom team before the hectic Xmas period and to fully assess the squad before the opening day of the transfer window (we're in no shape to wait until 31st January). Really poor emotional (non) decision making by Williams. Let's hope Allardyce can do something within the limited time frame left to him.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Radio Lancs are so Burnley biased do you think they are bothered I always thought it was Radio North End. Listening to it on Saturday night, the presnter Gary Hickson was complaining that the last Rovers' manager to come for an interview was Don Mackay and Rovers prefered dealing with the national media rather than the local one.
TrentVilla Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Morning all... As a semi regular reader and occassional poster on here I thought I'd nip on and see what you all make of your new boss. Personally I think it is a very good appointment in your current circumstances and with the fixtures ahead of you Fat Sam will turn things around quickly. I have a sneaky feeling you might even see the return to Rovers colours of a certain Kevin Davies!!! Anyway, hope the appointment works out for you and you get back up the table and away from trouble wouldn't want to see a club like Rovers go down. Personally under Fat Sam I think you will finish mid table easily. Best of luck folks

TrentVilla Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Cheers TA, but I hope your feeling is wrong on Davies... You worried about losing Young at all? It probably is, but I bet you you are linked with him in the next few days. You could do worse as an outsider looking in you look like you could do with someone who can play with their back to goal and hold the ball upfront a bit. As for Young (sorry mods don't want to make this thread about Villa) but no not at all to be honest. He signed a new 5 year deal a couple of months ago and is very settled don't see him going anywhere. Plus the club showed in the summer with Barry we aren't going to be pushed around by the Sky 4 any more.
steven Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 A sobering assessment from the Guardian I wasn't sobered by this at all. Maybe its because I've got a beer in hand, but to be honest, his only failure was at the mags, and they are a basket-case anyway so I'm not sure that is a good benchmark, especially considering he was doomed from the moment he joined as he was nowhere near the fans choice. BS on the other hand had over 90% of the popular vote. Sure this weekend's game is massive, and it will be an indication of how much we are really missing Friedel and Bentley in the side, but to be honest, at least we'll have players playing in their correct positions, which will be a vast improvement on the last 6 months. Still expecting 3rd round of the cup to be a potential banana-skin though......
Kelbo Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Bought three tickets today for Saturday on the news of Sam appointment... lets get behind the lads... now I want to see him in charge from pitchside and not just watching from the stand.. no time for that!! When Hughes took over priority was stopping the goals going in and staying up ..no change.. sod the style for the rest of this season Ince has left us with no choice.... points are most important thing... come on Sam do your stuff and sort our team out!! Sam watches from the stands as I am sure you will be aware, there is a better overall view of the shape of your team on the pitch (hence the earpiece etc.) You can see the formations much more easily and where the opposition are building from, Sam will come down to the touchline later in the game if need be, but he will get his message accross dont worry about that. Believe me, watching from the stands can pay huge dividends.
unleaded Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Great Interview from Sam "Clean Sheet" Allardyce in The Times The Times Newspaper
broadsword Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Great Interview from Sam "Clean Sheet" Allardyce in The Times The Times Newspaper That's cheered me up no end.
tony gale's mic Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Great Interview from Sam "Clean Sheet" Allardyce in The Times The Times Newspaper Thanks, that's the article I was referring to when I made this thread initially. Whatever you think of Sam, after reading that you have to agree he's gonna be a massive, massive improvement on Ince.
broadsword Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Agreed TGM, but I think it would be hard not to be a massive improvement on Ince. I can't believe anyone could be such a hopeless prat of a manager (Ince, that is). What a disaster.
alexanders Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Great Interview from Sam "Clean Sheet" Allardyce in The Times The Times Newspaper Fantastic article, made my day. Bring on the good times again!
thenodrog Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Just out of interest - I made this first post in the thread after seeing this Times interview - did anyone else read it? Was a big spread but can't find it online, really made me change my mind about him being some old school hoofer. Yeah and speak for yourself. Not all of us were too quick to dismiss him.
Mr Creosote Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Yeah and speak for yourself. Not all of us were too quick to dismiss him. You'd never do anything like that. Would you?
Bobby G Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 So look forward to this conference and hope Big Sam talks our position as a club up. I mean in the overall picture, and where he sees us in it.
tony gale's mic Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Yeah and speak for yourself. Not all of us were too quick to dismiss him. I was speaking for myself. You were pretty quick to dismiss Hughes though werent you? Every post you've made in the last couple of weeks has been intent on showing everyone how right you were in being against Ince from day one. Well you certainly weren't the only one who wasn't keen on his appointment, but you don't see the rest of us bragging about it. Grow up.
Majiball Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 So look forward to this conference and hope Big Sam talks our position as a club up. I mean in the overall picture, and where he sees us in it. Since Paul "Mystic Meg" Ince predictions came true, I'm hoping Big Fat Sam says something along the lines of "well you never know, we could finish in the top four"
thenodrog Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Cheers TA, but I hope your feeling is wrong on Davies... Why? If Cruz goes then Davies would be in my top 3 affordable targets to replace him.
jodrell Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Spoke to Andy Bayes today, and he mentioned Sam wont speak to the BBC, so Radio Lancashire will be non too pleased !! It was to do with hin and his sons appearance on the agents program about dodgy dealings,
thenodrog Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 You'd never do anything like that. Would you? Paul Ince?I thank you.
Clog Blue Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Why? If Cruz goes then Davies would be in my top 3 affordable targets to replace him. I would prefer Beatie,
