Gav Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Also, I disagree that history is irrelevant. Roberts has always been best for us as a super sub - as highlighted by his recent form coming off the bench - and has always struggled to maintain his form when given the opportunity to start. I don't think it's illogical for Allardyce to want to use him in the sub role again, and actually thought Kalinic had a good game before he was subbed. Our issues today were defensively, rather than any decisions made about our strikers. I’d pick players on current form not whats gone before, i'd make a good England manager Agree that Kalinic did ok today, but the lads a striker, and is paid to score goals, he needs to start producing soon or move over.

AHoyle90 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 The thing is we have spent £6m on him and we don't have seasons to wait around for him to produce, if we go down were knackered. Roberts should have started today but at the end of the day he has in the last 2 games proven a great impact player, by all accounts Kalinic did pretty well today but with the style of player he is, he's forever going to struggle in the lone strikers role.
BuckyRover Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 A lot of people on here appear to be quite forgetful. Roberts has proven time after time that he is poor when starting games.
Darwen Rover Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 A lot of people on here appear to be quite forgetful. Roberts has proven time after time that he is poor when starting games. Completely agree with this... He's shocking in 95% of games he starts
Mattyblue Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Completely agree with this... He's shocking in 95% of games he starts Exactly, should'nt you play to your strengths? Roberts as a sub is a weapon for us, the tactic of starting Roberts has proven not to work time and time again.
waggy Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 He gets the stick when we lose He gets the stick when we throw away a lead & dont win He gets the stick for his subs He gets the stick for his formation Tonight he got all 4 correct it seems....Credit where its due?? BIG SAMS BLUE & WHITE ARMY!! well lard@rse excelled himself on saturday
AndyNeil Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Does that fact that only 71(!) tickets have been sold for the evening with Big Sam, even though it has been pushed heavily through facebook, twitter, onerovers and the official site reflect the level of support the manager has amongst the support?

JAL Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Can anyone tell me why our illustrious leader decided not to start with an in form Jason Roberts? I’m not overly bothered by the fact we lost 4-2, it should have been 6, but I just can’t understand why Allardyce saw fit to put Roberts on the bench again. Probably because when Roberts has scored in the last two games, he hasnt celebrated or even showed any positive emotion. Word has it that Roberts has had a bollocking for not celebrating his goals in an appropriate manner.
USABlue Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I don't have a problem with Sam not starting Roberts and I am totally bewildered so many on here are clamoring for Jason to start. Given that most on here have slaughtered him. What bothers me more is the fact that he continues to persevere playing Kalinic in the lone striker role. And the daft buggar goes with two up front when he drops Kalinic. Is Sam trying to totally destroy this lad. He needs a strike partner in my opinion. Also the other mystifying thing to me was pulling Salgado. He left him in last year when Bale (was it Bale?) took him to the cleaners with his pace but this game Salgado was much better prepared and I thought was using his experience to play him well, not letting Bale get too close at the right time and playing off him at the right time. Then Sam pulls him and guess what, well the rest is history innit. I think Sam must have had a flashback to last season cos I don't recall Bale doing him once at the weekend.

It's just a case of people wanting to see Kalinic with a strike partner, not just wanting Roberts to start. If we are to start with a lone striker upfront, at the moment I feel Roberts is a better option to lead the line than Kalinic.

Hughesy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 well lard@rse excelled himself on saturday He did or Givet did? Because had Givet done a proper job we probably would have only conceded 1. No suprise you popped up after a defeat...its like your PRAYING for us to lose so you can have another pop at Sam. Bore off!
thenodrog Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Indeed. Thats a point that I made quite some time ago. Odd for someone who is held in high esteem by many and likes to be considered as some kind of superfan.

I seem to remember you doing disapearing acts after rare Paul Ince victories and then gleefully rushing back after defeats.
thenodrog Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I seem to remember you doing disapearing acts after rare Paul Ince victories and then gleefully rushing back after defeats. Do you really? 1. Are you (and your poodles) saying that I was wrong from the start (and before) about Ince? 2. Where did I do a disappearing act? I can only rem missing one home match that autumn.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 2. Where did I do a disappearing act? I can only rem missing one home match that autumn. You were "conspicuous by your absence" on here if we got a result under The Guvnor. Not so when we got beat.

deryck guyler's spoon Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Evidence please? Why nhaven't you answered my first question? Been there, old stuff and the arguments with you tend to go round and round in circles and generally involve personal abuse and general obnoxiousness on your part. Pretty difficult to find evidence of you not posting but you, me and a good few others know that you did one for a good while after the win at Everton.
