Stuart Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 It is called personel choice. Many in the Jack Walker stand don't sing - but it does not mean they are not passionate about the club etc. Some supporters chose to just moan and groan, vent their anger at a players mistake, at the referee, chanting 442 my lord - therefore chanting against Sam - as he chose the formation and tactics. They chose to do this - though I often wish they'd keep quiet. I have often witnessed people - often an individual - swearing and cursing during a game, parents with young children complain to the abuser, then get turned on themselves. I am all for singing and creating a good atmosphere. But I respect those who chose not to sing, I respect those who want to protect their children from foul abuse. We want to encourage people to come to matches - families not just individuals. Creating a good atmosphere is good for the whole football attendence experience. If they want to sing, great, if not it is also great - a persons choice. I agree with most of that PAFELL. I sit in the Riverside where there are older fans but with women and children too. One theory I have about the atmosphere is that our main songs/chants involve swearing about Burnley. It's no surprise that NO1 and NO1 reserves (Darwen end) are the most vocal with these songs given their young male demographic. I'm sure if we had better (cleaner) songs, they would catch on better as more fans would join in. Our most popular "song" is the vindaloo na-na-na after we score. Which is ironic its self. Second is probably "Are you Burnley in disguise". We need some new songs which focus on supporting Rovers and not just slating Burnley with expletives!

philipl Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Back to Sam- things must be going well if we are discussing singing on the Manager's thread- and a couple of interesting snippets on the BBC rumour mill. - FA are not going to stand in the way of Inter taking Capello - Coyle is pushing the cause of Sam to be the next England Manager. If Sam thinks he is in with a chance and that the Inter move is real, boy will he be kicking himself for letting his old mate Fergie stuff him 7-1. The only option he has now is to go on a long winning run with Rovers to get his candidacy back into gear.
47er Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I'd be astonished if Sam got it over Harry Basset. He's southern, managed 2 London clubs, they think the world of him dahn there.

philipl Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 You're also forgetting that he's a better manager than Sam. On what basis?
S15 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 On what basis? Erm, he's achieved more as a manager?
Mattyblue Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 There's no doubt that he's an excellent man manager and he plays an expansive brand of football, however he has always had a big transfer budget.
S15 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 There's no doubt that he's an excellent man manager and he plays an expansive brand of football, however he has always had a big transfer budget. Even at West Ham?
Mattyblue Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Did he do that well there? He had a superb set of youngsters. I rate him, however would he have done better than Sam has here?
Roost Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 You're also forgetting that he's a better manager than Sam. Based on?
Amo Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 There's no doubt that he's an excellent man manager and he plays an expansive brand of football, however he has always had a big transfer budget. Has he? Sure, he spent a lot of at Pompey (second time around) & Tottenham, but it's not like he's had a blank cheque throughout his career. Let's also not forget he was a rip-roaring success at both those clubs. I know that success cost Pompey ultimately, but that wasn't Redknapp's fault.
S15 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Did he do that well there? He had a superb set of youngsters. I rate him, however would he have done better than Sam has here? He got them to 6th in the League and into Europe with very little money by developing youngsters.
AndyB Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 He spent over £50 million according to this spreadsheet I found /Redknap spending/
S15 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 He spent over £50 million according to this spreadsheet I found /Redknap spending/ Spent on average £7.4m per year whilst selling £11m worth of talent a year. I must admit he spent more than I thought but in the period he was managing £7m was a relatively small PL yearly budget for transfers.

Ironically each club he has been at, bournemouth, WHU, southampton, pompey have all been in administration or are in mega debt. That is one hell of a coincidence in my view.
den Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Allardyce intends to get out before he gets the sack. Wants to keep his fait in his own hands. Interesting. [cue interesting comments from the m/b community].
Amo Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Two unacceptable results on the road now. Before anyone bites, I've said for some time now that our away performances need to drastically improve. I admit, we don't have the best side, but we have a solid group of players who finished in the top ten last year and some promising youngsters in our side. So where are we going wrong? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sam's away record (in the league) reads: P39 W7 D9 L23. That's just not good enough.
Backroom Tom Posted December 12, 2010 Backroom Posted December 12, 2010 I don't know where it all went wrong but now after a great win last week the manager and players have managed to put themselves back under scrutiny for the game next week IMO as the fans will want a response. I can't quite understand why we reverted to hoofball when they went down to ten instead of bringing on Hoilett and having him and Ollson attacking wither wing with pace and stretching them it seems basic.
DP Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Without going into too much detail, a lot was said about the Bolton game being the real test for Sam and how far we've come on this season...... .......big fat failure then!

chaddyrovers Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 LET'S BLAME THE MANAGER AGAIN!!! The players were at fault for sloppy defence for bolton goals not the manager. tactics were good. went 4-4-2 when bolton went down to 10 men. M.diouf played well. did any of you go to the game???
Amo Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Goal difference will be fantastic as well I would assume. Something like - 44.
dr_awol Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Goal difference will be fantastic as well I would assume. away from home blackburn -9, Liverpool's is -10, Aston Villa -13. this is getting boring, sam allardyce has had nothing to work with, hes picked up a crap team with no confidence, and taken us to mid-table security(team that lose just as many as we win) his predecessor tried to play entertaining football and look where that got us!!! people are anti sam because of the ideas of an idiot chairman of another football team. if you want to really judge sam, try at the end of this season when hes had a bit of money to spend.
thenodrog Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 The Anti Allardyce brigade must be seething. A defeat against a team reduced to 10 men and there really is no room for criticism of the manager tonight. Bolton went down to 10 men ignored Coyles tactics and reverted to basic unadulterated 'hoofball'. From that moment on yhey looked miles better, kept us under pressure and scored 2 goals from knock downs created by direct long balls from deep. We were quite simply 'out Allardyced'!

That wasn't quite what was being referred to, but I acknowledge your point. I appreciate that having a negative budget, he's actually done quite well with his approach, but I worry about the prospect of him being given big money. I think he;'s more suited to operating on a more limited budget.
