I thought 11 vs 11 the tactics were spot on; however, we don't have the creativity to break down teams once they're on the back foot.

You cannot blame the manager for silly individual errors, and it's two of those that cost us the game. Three points dropped.

That wasn't quite what was being referred to, but I acknowledge your point.

I appreciate that having a negative budget, he's actually done quite well with his approach, but I worry about the prospect of him being given big money. I think he;'s more suited to operating on a more limited budget.

all i can think of is anelka , i think allardyce deserve his chance now , who else would you trust more with money that would come to rovers? MoN?

no thanks!!! He's not that good. don't see why everybody rates him so highly!!! Need loads of money and doesn't get on with his players or have good communication skills with his players like BS does!!!

Allardyce didn’t put a foot wrong today, he set the side up to win with 11 men then went for it 11 v 10.

Todays defeat was purely down to bad defending, by players that should know better.

As a side issue, I think people will look at Coyles team V Allardyces team and draw their own conclusions.

Yep. We were better than Bolton today in my opinion.

Agreed.

Although very frustrating we still played a lot of long ball at 10 v 11 - played into their hands a little bit.

Not sure you can blame Sam for that though, some of the mistakes today were shocking.

Coyle is leagues ahead of Allardyce in every way for me, he’s destined for bigger and better things than Bolton, watch that space.

Interesting viewpoint, I though Allardyce outfoxed him today, in a similar way he used to when he was Bolton manager coming to Ewood to play Hughes' teams.

I do agree Coyle is doing very well, though the one positive from our point of view is his success could leave Bolton in BIG trouble when he leaves, especially given their finances. A similar thing could have happened when Hughes left us, luckily JW realised his initial error quickly and even more luckily, our current manager was looking for work...

The Anti Allardyce brigade must be seething. A defeat against a team reduced to 10 men and there really is no room for criticism of the manager tonight.

Except for that small part where you say he was beaten at his own game.

Givet should be on the bench. Play Olsson at LB. Maybe drop Nelsen and put Jones at CB, but who can you play in midfield Pedersen? Nzonzi out. could play Langinzi there tho.

Olsson is far more effective as a winger, I would drop Diouf for Hoilett with the two young lads down the flanks.

Looks like Sam doesn't rate Goulon not even on the bench again today

Sam's a smart chap, I reckon he is shielding him after the united drubbing, Goulon that is.

Anyone notice that Nolan has 8 goals for Newcastle this season? Their fans were not enamoured of that signing or of Sam's other buys but the old get knows what he is doing.

Joe Kinnear bought him for Newcastle.

Without going into too much detail, a lot was said about the Bolton game being the real test for Sam and how far we've come on this season......

.......big fat failure then!

Rovers played well. Stifled Bolton, they had few chances. We defended woefully at times.

We didn't win...but hardly a "big fat failure".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sam's away record (in the league) reads: P39 W7 D9 L23. That's just not good enough.

That's awful, isn't it?

It also needs mentioning that good away performances, such as Birmingham and Bolton today, are being rewarded with defeat.

We simply need far more quality in the attacking half of the pitch. We do not create enough and we fail to finish what paltry amounts we do create.

Sam did great. And even though the final score was not the way I wanted, I thought Sam "entertained", especially during the second half.

This is true. Salgado, Nelson and Givet all seemed out of it.

Yep. We were better than Bolton today in my opinion.

Absolutely. The Rovers were definetly the superior side, just massively unlucky in not converting our several chances. Givet let 2 sitters get away from him, Olsen went down easy rather than plow threw and try to score (and got nothing), and Roberts and Salgado both failed to capitalize on half way decent prospects.

As to to the squad, EHD was looking slow and tired, Salgado was looking off, and Givet needs an eye exam. On the other hand, I am pleased that Holden did well but wish he had done so against a team other than the Rovers.

I think the Bolton game showed a number of things very clearly.

Coyle is doing a great job at Bolton.

His players are very fit and they know three key things:

- how to pass and move

- how to give the player in posession at least two or three simple out ball options through their positioning

- and he has learnt to be a bit more pragmatic than when he was at Burnley; Bolton mix their tactics more than the dingles did.

Rovers on the other hand are clearly in a transition phase irrespective of the ownership change.

- Nelsen, Dunn, EHD and Salgado have all seen better days. They are still capable of outstanding performances but the proportion of less than outstanding performances are beginning to weigh in the balance against them

- Olsson, Hoilett, Kalinic, Morris all look like having potential to be very good at Premier League level but none of them are there yet

Put that lot together and there is a recipe in a squad with a less good manager than Sam for everything to go completely wrong at the same time. The fact that we could well reach the half way mark this season either in or very close to the top half of the PL table is a huge credit to Sam.

I'd like to see Sam get the chance to spend money at Ewood now the owners seem to be willing to make funds available. It is notable that although they were hugely controversial and unpopular at the time, Sam signings at Newcastle are the backbone of that club when they are available to play.

Am i the only one who feel that we played badly yesterday? The first half was terrible, we barely string 3 passes together in the whole half. We only started playing better AFTER they went down to 10 men.

On a separate note, anyone else watch the game on tv? Who's the idiot of a commentator who spent the whole game blasting Sam and his hoofball tactics? I'm not saying he's not justified in saying so but i though commentators are supposed to be neutral!

Well I was at the game yesterday and I must admit that the so called “White Brazilians” did very little to justify that name for me.

They played plenty of long ball and pumped it into the mixer like Sam’s teams….they also had a very dirty edge about them still. We were the better team, despite a negative budget that Sam has had at Ewood…..I look forward to adding some REAL QUALITY to our side and then see who is the better manager.

Yesterday Sam’s tactics worked fine – Bolton did very little from open play, and had it been for half decent defending they would not have scored. It was poor defending that cost us, nothing else!
