jrabrfc Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Sam: Might take 5 or 6 games to catch the teams above - just need to get the team confident again and there's a run of games coming up get points. Just looking forward to Saturday and hopefully enjoying the moment at 5 o'clock

RibbleValleyRover Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I was very impressed with his conference and that's is coming from someone who isn't his biggest fan. He is very clued up with what the situation is and what is required. Its going to be a hard job to keep us up, but anyone can its Sam.
Hughesy Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 So has he just added the 1 to the backroom staff so far or is there others??
dinglebasher Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Anyone got any links to video of the conference?
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Anyone got any links to video of the conference? SSN website should have some clips up later.
Alan75 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Must say that he gives an aura of confidence and is at ease with the media. What I did like (must be his northern experiences) he kept to refering to Blackburn ROVERS, unlike many who just refer to us as Blackburn.
Iceman Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Allardyce looks and sounds confident, plus no negative comments like the now infamous we not a bottom 3 club yet ,comments Ince made. He is raring to go, and it seems he knows what he needs to do,who he wants etc, something that was so lacking with Ince. We will beat Stoke saturday, im confident. 2-0 scoreline
Eddie Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 So has he just added the 1 to the backroom staff so far or is there others?? He's only added one so far and there should be one more coming in.
CrazyIvan Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I noticed that as well. He also said it was the most professional set up he'd been at, just needed "tweaking". Aye, we know where that tweaking was! Knox and Matthias out the door!!! I enjoyed that press conference as well. Big Sam came accross very well and had a laugh about Bolton fans not liking him being here and hoping to beat them when they come up the road
14May1995 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Good, confident press conference. A world of difference to what we've seen of late! HOWEVER - lack of ambition or what? When asked if he still wanted to win silverware he said "Not this season!!". It's alright though, he then remembered we're still in the FA Cup. Also - why oh why didn't someone ask him if he'd be happy with "BFS's B&W Army"? It's a term of endearment afterall. Welcome aboard Sam - it's going to be interesting!!
cn_barlow Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 it'll be interesting to see the reaction of the player on saturday. The next 6/7 games will define our season, win on saturday and its game on! cant wait to see his team selection!
Hughesy Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Can you say that again Barlow - didnt quite catch it!
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I agree with him about there being no silverware this season, we shouldn't be worrying about any silverware, even the FA Cup. Just bung some fringe players and kids on and leave them to it. Maybe they will get somewhere. The League is more important.
Hughesy Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Saturday we cant expect to much - that much is crucial from the fans. Sam has obviously just met his players today, nothing more. So he will have 1 day of training (if he isnt busy doing other things) before the game - hopefully he will give them a speech before the game like 'Everyone is fighting to stay at the club and for their future' that should hopefully spur them on and get some real energy in our performance. Remember - Form is temporary, Class is permanent
John Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Calm, composed and confident in his ability. Good press conference.
Fife Rover Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I wasn't sobered by this at all. Maybe its because I've got a beer in hand, but to be honest, his only failure was at the mags, and they are a basket-case anyway so I'm not sure that is a good benchmark, especially considering he was doomed from the moment he joined as he was nowhere near the fans choice. BS on the other hand had over 90% of the popular vote. Sure this weekend's game is massive, and it will be an indication of how much we are really missing Friedel and Bentley in the side, but to be honest, at least we'll have players playing in their correct positions, which will be a vast improvement on the last 6 months. Still expecting 3rd round of the cup to be a potential banana-skin though...... Not being an ardent follower of the doings of Newcastle Utd I may be quite wrong about this, but I seem to think that the sacking of Big Sam from the Magpies was purely down to the change of ownership that had just occurred, and the determination of the new owner to install HIS own choice of mamagement team rather than anything that Sam had done.
tonygreenbank Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 An excellent press conference from BigSam; full of confident replies; someone as a player that you would quickly respond to. He reckoned that the psychological makeup of the team was the main obstacle to overcome. He and Neil Mcdonald just walked round the training pitch talking to the players and geeing them up. It was interesting that he allowed Karl Robinson "young up and coming coach" to take the session. He didnt question their fitness only their mindset.
RoyRover Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 At the start of the season I didn't want Sam Allardyce anywhere near Blackburn. Now I feel that this guy is someone who can save us from relegation and that is all that we can hope to achieve this season. He knows how to work miracles with teams under pressure, who have limited funds and has the strength of character to really get the team going. Survival is what it is all about and I think that this is the man who can achieve that for us.
Mr. E Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 As expected, a cold but professional press conference by Allardyce. At least he isn't kissing up to anyone by referring to the club as "his team", and is keeping things strictly professional. This is a job he will do and get out as quickly as he can. Which might be what some people want, but it does rise questions as to the long-term direction of the club.
Exiled in Toronto Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 He and Neil Mcdonald just walked round the training pitch talking to the players and geeing them up. It was interesting that he allowed Karl Robinson "young up and coming coach" to take the session. He didnt question their fitness only their mindset. That can't be right. We have it on impeccable authority from the know-alls on this board that in fact the players are now less fit than Jack Duckworth (or indeed Vera) and that Karl Robinson is nothing more than Ince's bumboy. There's no doubt we will get a quick benefit from having a vastly experienced manager to a novice, and I hope he will act quickly to defenestrate the Brockhall Deep Throat (I suspect Warnock)
PAFELL Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Saturday we cant expect to much - that much is crucial from the fans. Sam has obviously just met his players today, nothing more. Remember - Form is temporary, Class is permanent There is always the new manager syndrome that seems to always happen - Rovers will win on Saturday and a good resounding win as well
Alan75 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Mathias and Knox are reported to have left the club
Roverall Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 This is a job he will do and get out as quickly as he can. Which might be what some people want, but it does rise questions as to the long-term direction of the club. In contrast to what, exactly? The hordes of experienced, talented Premier League managers who would stay at Rovers out of old-fashioned loyalty if a "big club" with more money came along?
