I for one feel a lot better knowing he's come in. Was he my #1 pick? Not by a long shot but Ince was futher down the list then BFS was. I think that with his experance with Bolton (smaller club, not a lot of cash, and a-holes that need a boot up the butt to get them going) I think he was the right pick.

Seeing as how ince put us in a hole (one i KNOW we can get out of) its going to make his job that much more intresting. I feel that the board should not have given him so much time and allowed us to get as far down as we did. I feel that had we sack ince 3-4 games ago we could be on our way out and up. I have faith that BFS will get us up and running and that keep us safe.

I was watching SKY last night and he stated that he WAS NOT going to let our best players go anywhere, and to that i as a fan will hold him to his word. The fact the ince came in and said the same thing and then within 2 weeks Bently and Big Brad were gone really made me sit up and take notice. I feel that for us to survive this season we must keep our best players and hopefully bring in some other that will make us stronger, not a bunch of friends of his that only make us spend money where its not needed

The appointment of Sam has been covered in depth by a lot of the SEA Press and TV - all great advertising for Rovers in this part of the world. The coverage Rovers are getting in Thailand (and the rest of SEA) in the Press and on TV (especially ESPNStar Asia) following Sam's appointment is fantastic. Today (Saturday) the Bangkok Post Sports Section has 2 in depth articles on us and last night ESPNStar Asia TV had two football programmes that had good and positive features on Rovers. Sam was a guest pundit on some of their shows last season and was good. He's held in high esteem out here. All the positive vibes are so refreshing after the recent past depression. So lets get that win today or at least a good performance to get the Rovers Sam show rolling.

Any one still want to question wether the Rovers have appeal in the far east ?

get in there Beamish!

In the time I've lived in Bangkok I've seen visits by Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, Bolton, Man City (I'm sure there are others I can't remember) either as part of a pre-season tour of Asia or in a Bangkok based tournament. Man U have a store here somewhere (I've never been over the doorstep). Everton are sponsored by a Thai beer (Chang), Arsenal run a football academy here etc etc - its probably the same down in Malaysia and Singapore plus the region has large emerging markets like Vietnam etc. SEA has a huge population to market to. Peter Reid is manager of Thailand (and being successful at it) and they are always up for a game against a Premiership club. Sam A appeared on a few football shows at ESPNStar Asia based out of Singapore last season so he knows football contacts in the region already and could I'm sure give Beamish direction.

Liverpool visited Thailand years ago and have a strong following as do Man U with lesser for Arsenal and Chelsea but I STILL see locals wearing the Rovers blue & white.

And one thing Rovers have above anyone else is that most Thais think Rovers blue & white strip is the best of all.

Perhaps in the current economic climate its not the time to look to market overseas - or perhaps it is exactly the right time, as soon as survival is secured this season that is.

Your right about the strip, it is very popular in KL, you can see some one wearing it everyday down town.

Rovers are still only 1 of 4 to win the PL, something that is well know in asia

I've been to Asia a few times and never once saw someone else wearing a Rovers shirt. It's always the same fake shirts on sale at the stands - the big 4, Newcastle, sometimes Spurs, Portsmouth but never Rovers.

There is an outlet in KL that sells genuine shirts, all the PL teams

Every time I go to Asia I see a shirt or 2

"Stop passing it!!"

or......

"Stop passing it pointlessly around in midfield in ever decreasing triangles until we lose possession just for the sake of it. Thats football for numpty's. We need to get in a position where we can actually SHOOT from"

Well folks, sams big Ewwod day has arrived, his first since Bolton won 1-0 back in the early 80's when they secured promotion at our ground.

One thing I can imagine is the bouncy step that will be on show, both in the players and the management.

Neil Macdonald was a half decent hardworking player, not the greatest but not the worst and he is a shining example of being a coach, look at the way he has Leeds playing football in the lower leagues. Sam and co will now hopefully have swept the Ince cobwebs away, even in 1 and a half training sessions and this should have transferred itself to the players.

if the players have anything about them then they will be wanting to do well on that pitch, they will want to show the management and the home fans what they are about and for me this can only be positive.

It wont be pretty but WGAF as long as we take 3 points today.

In for the ride :brfcsmilie:

As a singaporean, my opinion is that it is extremely difficult for blackburn to catch on here without a sustained period of onfield success (defined as trophies). At least in Singapore, the BPL-watching crowd is clearly and overwhelmingly in favour of the big four. In our heyday in the early EPL years, there were more Blackburn supporters, including those who followed us because of Daglish. But as we tailed off, the number of shirts to be seen got increasingly rare. It does not help that we get every match the big four play "live" on tv, but probably only about a third for those of other teams.

With Thaksin's purchase of Man city, there must have been an injection of city-fever in Thailand. But now that he has sold the club (for a tidy sum too!), i'm not too sure if the club is still as well supported.

Our best chance of carving a market out would be to sign a nakamura or park ji-sung - an asian player who is good enough to be a first-choice player week-in week-out - because the korean and japanese markets are much more developed and wealthy and therefore, able to sustain the craze. The singaporean market, while probably rich enough, will not be able to generate enough fervour (and there's no way in hell one of our players will make the mark too). Other populous markets like Thailand and Indonesia are probably not developed enough for the club to seriously take advantage of marketing opportunities. But a Korean, Japanese or Chinese player probably could.

You are right. Asians only ''care'' about winning ... and I mean trophies. Supporting is alien or as we say here farang. Having said that Rovers fans in the region should meet and drink s**t load of beers and I'll be in Singapore in 2 months time by which time Sam will have us well on the way to safety. Man Citeh are 'history' in Bkk as you must know. I like the ''probably not developed enough'' comment .. says it all. Oh and I'm from UK and not an 'undeveloped' local.

I thought it was a nice touch from Sam today when he came onto the pitch before kick-off. Raising the Rovers scarf above his head to all parts of the ground. Almost as if to say "I'm one of you now". A throw-away gesture perhaps but still good to see.

For me he also showed during the game why we had to jettison Ince and bring in some experience. He was shouting instructions all the time telling players what to do. Little things like making sure a player stayed up front when we were defending corners.

Really good atmosphere at Ewood today and if this is the type of "boring" football we can look forward to, I say bring it on! From start to finish, it just felt... right.

that was like love at first sight. absolutely fantastic. he came out there looking like our very own messiah. and how the team/fans delivered! 3-0. just like it should be. :D and did you see JW after we took the lead? he looked so relieved. like "YES! i did the right thing!"

Sam's love in with the beeb lasted a long time

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...antas-slip.html

I think Sam has a point here.

5 Live were pretty damned aggressive in their questioning of Santa, did it the day all the other headlines were about Sam and then sensationalised one bit of the interview.

5 Live didn't grill Pavlyuchenko the day after Redknapp was appointed at Spurs did they? But Spurs are actively looking to get rid of Pav this window.

In fairness, Roque (or his agent) was definitely doing a selling job. But Colin Murray is a gobby music journo serving his time so he can get onto a prime Radio or TV slot. The more sensationalist the better as far as he's concerned - hence the pushy nature of his questioning. Anything to get his name out there. I wouldn't be surprised if he's ends up hosting some X-Factor at some point.

Sam,was such a breath of fresh air on the touchline, compared with Ince. Sam, was off the bench,in the rain screaming instructions, having a go at the players, and having a few words with the assistant referee a few times. He showed that he means business, and he came across as a man who wants to prove a point. He also had each player in the correct position, and that is after only being in charge for 2 days. His substitutions were good, and he knew Dunny was not entirely match fit,so took him off. Derbs, came on and went straight up front and not on the wing. Well done Sam!
