Bobby G Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 He is a proper manager. He did wonders with Bolton, and I believe the facilities, and players we have here means that IF we stay up, he could do better with us...How much better will depend on funds, but I believe we should always be in the mix for a UEFA Cup place.

tcj_jones Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Nothing is going to take this smile off my face! I haven't felt this good - regardless of football - for bloody ages and not even doing my back out for the millionth time on the train and having to endure hours with a trapped nerve in my shoulder to boot could make the day any less enjoyable!
Stuart Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_4676296,00.html Why do new Rovers managers always get asked about their next job as soon as they start? Didn't Ince bring up wanting to be Inter manager quite early on too?
broadsword Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Still really chuffed. In fact i'm so happy that despite our position, i'm not worried. We're clearly in trouble, but there's still time. Thank god we won given the west brom result today. If the board had left it just one week longer we would've been up the creek. he seems a very sharp cookie, he has a certain image but he's totally different to that. I've only just started to realise. I just feel so much better about it all :-)
brfcs5359 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 As a big Ince fan - he had to go as the truth behind the scenes has come out. Yesterday was organised, just what we needed defensively. But it was rubbish too. A decent side would have buried us. Under Ince we enjoyed 55% of possesion every game (just crap at he important ends). Yesterday we fell back to a very poor and lowly 48% - MOD (but gained a clean sheet). Total sh*te. In other words Nelsen, Samba and Warnock aren't good enough without two banks of four. I doubt BFS will take this onboard and I am as pessimistic for the future as I was last week. I am sad Ince has gone but why was he so arrogant and thick? One day he'll achieve more in the managerial game that BFS ever will. Sad to see the blues outplayed by cr*p.

What is right is that Big Sam was the right man for us at this time. We played poorly yesterday but we won 3-0, under Ince we played poorly and lost 3-0. Big Sam within TWO days gave that team discipline and organisation. I was a big Ince fan and wanted him to do well at Rovers but the fact remains that we would have been relegated under him, now we stand a chance. I also have every confidence that the players that Sam brings to Rovers will be quality signings, his past record speaks volumes.

Stoke, whilst admitted cr@p, are a big, horrible side who are difficult to play against. Between the first and second goals they had us on the ropes with their "style" of football but other than a freak, swirling cross that bounced of the bar and a second half shot they didn't really threaten. We even started to played a bit at times and the third goal was well crafted as was the second half raid down the left which ended with the MGP shot. I was dissapointed by Ince as well. I am also wary of Allardyce's direct approach but sadly, it seems as though the beautiful game is now the sole preserve of "The Big Four". Allardyce will keep us up. You'll just have to be happy with that.

How tf can you be a fan of somebody in charge of our team who has placed us in serious danger of relegation and oblivion and who you now deem to be 'arrogant and thick' and ? Why did you not simply listen to me .......... I said he was arrogant and thick as soon as he came.
Pugg Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Why did you not simply listen to me .......... I said he was arrogant and thick as soon as he came. Maybe he didn't trust someone who said 'trust me'.
thenodrog Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Maybe he didn't trust someone who said 'trust me'. nice one but 'implied' would be more appropriate. Trust me.
BuckyRover Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 If Sam had come in, in the summer, I don't think it would have been all sweetness and roses. This has worked out well for him. He has everybody behind him. Ince never had that. Sam is obviously the better manager but I dont think that is all that counts.
Pugg Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 nice one but 'implied' would be more appropriate. Trust me. Yeah but that would have spoilt my joke
tony gale's mic Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 It is funny how some will try and stick by their position to the bitter end, granted folks like Theno don't really help things by boasting about saying things half of us were in the summer - but Ince was a car crash of a manager for us. There was pretty much no redeeming features of his time here. There's absolutely nothing you can say which can legitimately warrant a different assessment on his disastrous reign.

CAN WE STOP ALL THIS "PLAYED WELL.......PLAYED POORLY BULL" Playing well means defending well, denying chances then creating and taking them at the other end. Playing poorly is giving away chances to the opposition and not creating them for yourself. WHAT HAPPENS INBETWEEN IS MEANINGLESS AS FAR AS RESULTS ARE CONCERNED. We had the chances to score 6 yesterday. I remember one Robinson save. QED. Game won easily. Football games are won by goals not by someones view on "who played best"
tony gale's mic Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 I am sad Ince has gone but why was he so arrogant and thick? One day he'll achieve more in the managerial game that BFS ever will. What possible evidence do you have to support this claim? His playing record? His "passion"? BFS has achieved more than most in this game - well he will have done if he keeps us up anyway, and for Ince to achieve more would be to go on to manage a top 4 club and do well there. If you honestly think from his record here that there's a chance he'll do that, you need your head examining.

1864roverite Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I simply cannot agree Graham that Rovers were crap. Stoke City have more points than Rovers in the bag, they are higher in the table and they have players that cause endless amounts of problems, not to clubs like ours but each and everyone of the Premiership clubs. they might not play pretty tip tap football but with what they have they do it to the best of their ability. Stoke bombard teams and use their height in and around the box, Rovers coped admirably yesterday. it wasnt pretty, it wasnt nice but we coped, kept a clean sheet and scored 3. Now forgive me, but I would take that each week between now and February. Under Ince we would have probably lost 4-3 after leading 3-0 at half such was the incompetence in managing a team on the pitch. I dont see Ince earning half the respect of Sam UNLESS he totally changes his outlook on management, goes to the university of life and gets some coaching badges, oh yes, he may want to pick up a personality somewhere along the line as well whilst were at it. 3-0 home win even with 48% possession does for me until were clear of the bottom 3

I hope that's down to too much Xmas booze and you don't really think like that.
Mr Creosote Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Come off it, Sam, you are not a superman Thus continues this rag's dislike of all things Rovers. Good, I would hate The Daily Heil and the equally odious Sunday Heil to think of us in any other way.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Come off it, Sam, you are not a superman Good grief, has Sam run over Patrick Collins' cat or something? What a load of vitriolic nonsense. The observation about Ramos was also quite a good one i thought.
thenodrog Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Gobshyte isn't he? He talks disparigingly about the long ball game but tonight I watched Arse v Lpool and Newcastle v Spuds and all 5 goals were the result of hopeful 'alehouse' (Tommy Smith circa 1977) punts up the field! There is never a bad way to score a goal.
riverside returns Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 In deference to several posters on here, Saturday saw Rovers score 3 goals without reply, there were also some quite wonderful bits of passing football including the chance laid on for MGP that should have made it 4. It was nice to see some players trying to make a pass rather than a big lump up front to RSC. With a little more confidence borne from a couple of joined up good results, I am sure that we will begin to dominate some teams with some excellent passages of play. Sunderland is obviously a big game as a good result will continue the rise of confidence but a loss would set us back a distance. The king (INCE) is dead, long live the (SAM) king
roversmum Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 It's one advantage of having Benni and Roberts on the field. Benni does not benefit from long balls but knowing there is a tendency to flick them towards Roberts keeps a couple of defenders busy.
