ihtd Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Right now i don't really care if we park the team coach in front of the goal as long as we stay-up. Next season when Sam has had his chance to make the squad his own and has no/little injuries is the time to judge the style of play. Survival is key at whatever cost right now, if it means long-ball after long-ball, so be it, the club can't afford to be having to go to Doncaster away on a Tuesday night next season.

Eddie Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Correct me if i am wrong but wasn't there a point early in the season where we had conceded the most goals in the league in the last 15minutes. Surely now we must have conceded the most goals in the first 15minutes of games. I don't get why we seem to be a second half team, we were under Sparky, we used to play crap first half and then turn it on in the second half of games. I can remember plenty of games last season that we only turned up for the second half. I don't think this is a Sam Allardyce thing as to why we turn it on for the second half, i think its something that has been rooted deep in the squad since the middle/end of the Hughes era. Big difference between those two eras was that Hughes' side approached the game in both halves the same, they just often played better in the second half. Allardyce sets the stall out so that we can't possibly win with that tactic and then changes it when we have to in the second half.

Correction, Sam only chnages it when we are behind and have nothing to lose. If we are still holding onto a point then it is as you were. To some degree I can understand this philosphy in the position we are in. Single points are all very good but at some stage we have to turn one point into three, especially at Ewood. Mathematically it is better to win one, lose one then draw two.

You stand more chance of winning games if you don't lose them, if you see what I mean.
philipl Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I cannot believe this debate. Do we have a rubbish central midfield available for selection at the moment - yes or no? Do we need to avoid relegation- yes or no? It wasn't pretty cultured stuff but the West Ham game was pretty entertaining and we avoided defeat for the first time in eight games against that club. I know they are local rivals and it was fun to join the Trotter-bashing media band wagon but Sam had Notlob playing some pretty good stuff at times- remember what they did to our 3-1 lead at Ewood once? Yes they were physically strong but their football overwhelmed us when we were arguably the strongest and fittest team in the Premier League.

T4E Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 We've done that though and did that early on. I just don't see why we are approaching very winnable games with such negative tactics, even when we always become the better side when we shift to a more open and attacking style of play. At the moment we are essentially conceding the first half to the opposition and saying "at best this will be 0-0 at the break" and we are then trying to outplay them in the second half and it just doesn't make any sense. Sometimes it will work, but in the long-run it is doomed to fail. If we are that confident that we can outplay sides in the second half then why don't we have the same confidence from the start? I actually think that our negative approach is sapping some of our players of confidence and leading to the defensive shambles that we so often see in the first few minutes. I totally agree Ed - I was referring to the immediate few games after the appointment. We should be playing 4-4-2 with Benni and Roberts up front for the rest of the season whenever possible.

I had to beg my family not to buy me one for my birthday which is next week.
Ninjathunder Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I was aware. I had to beg my family not to buy me one for my birthday which is next week. Well I'm going. Why not go? It's for the disabled supporters association and if you don't particularly like him then put him on the spot.
AndyNeil Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I've got to say that I'm suprised that this event hasn't sold out ... I've been to them previously and NEVER seen a spare seat. It's only a fiver (2 pints), get yourself down there and ask the question you (brfcs posters in general) ask on here.
Hughesy Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I hope he answers questions on his plans for the club, the priority areas to sign players and also to see what he says about roque - i.e. is it for certain that he goes

Ewood Spark Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I have a spare ticket going for free. If anybody wants it drop me a pm before 6:00pm and I will arrange to meet you down at Ewood.
No Nay Never Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 anyone know where you can collect your tickets for tonight if you bought them on the net ?
AndyNeil Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 A very good evening, Allardyce comes across as a very knowledgeable person ... very into the tactical side of things. As an aside, on the way out I saw on the turnstile entrance a poster advertising unreserved seating in the lower tier of the Darwen End for £20 for all three matches!!!!! Time for people to show their true colours ..... C'MON YOU BLUES!!!!!
No Nay Never Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 He was speaking about David Dunn and said he knows he is Blackburn through and through because he sh!t on him by not going to Bolton... Sam said he had spent 3 weeks speaking to that little b*****d
roversmum Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Generally (not word for word): He is mindful of the youngsters but doesn't think it will help their development to play them in the senior team in the current situation. Mentioned Aaron Doran and Andrew Howarth in particular; is hopeful that we will pick up enough points to enable them to play a part after we reach safety, then give he will them a chance in pre-season. Would eventually aim to have a quality squad of say 18, they are looking into ways of limiting injuries to enable this. Roque's knee problem has gone from one knee to the other, if there is no improvement within a couple of weeks further investigation will be needed. Dunny's achilles has also occurred in his other foot, Dunny in himself is very fit so there is obviously a problem with his bio(?) contributing to these injuries and they are trying to find out what. His wife didn't speak to him for three weeks after he signed for Rovers and had to miss their planned Dubai trip (tic I think!) He would like Mohammed Ali as a dinner guest, he also thought Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher would be interesting dining companions as he is very interested in politics. He said the scouts are unsung heroes, travelling all over the place etc. He hates matchdays and beneath his calm exterior is anything but. He will probably revert to sitting up in the stands next season. Loads more, there will be an edited version on Radio Lancashire tomorrow, not sure if it will be on the web broadcast. Very entertaining evening, much enjoyed by the audience.
Ninjathunder Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Also Vogel and Villanueva aren't up to the physical demands of the premier league; can do it on the training ground but not on the pitch. Derbyshire is a goalscorer but in the Premier league you need to contribute more (that sounds terrible but I'm paraphrasing after a few scoops). Can't be recalled this season. Comments about Dunny were funny. Doesn't want to be seen as a footballing team that is praised by Wenger but loses 3-1. Would rather by complained about by Wenger as an overly physical team but wins 3-1. Asked to describe his style of management in a phrase 'winning football'. If a film were made of his career who would he want to play him? Tom Selleck Again I'm doing my best to remember after a great evening.

That's the sort of manager I can relate to.
Eddie Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 How does not being praised and losing 4-0 factor into that equation?
Mc Love Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Tom Selleck...ledgend! If i was there I would have asked him about his time coaching Limerick FC
Bobby G Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Interesting. So Roque is out for another couple of weeks at least. What a huge mistake it turns out that we didnt sell him!
1864roverite Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 He wouldnt have passed the bloody medical so your thinking is wrong. Give the club some credit. they didnt want to sell they didnt. they didnt need the money so he stayed no matter what he remains a Rovers and is still a sellable asset
Amo Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Also Vogel and Villanueva aren't up to the physical demands of the premier league; can do it on the training ground but not on the pitch. Eh. Except Vogel played last year and proved he was capable. He's probably just an ass.
