thenodrog Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Seathwaite has always been the wettest place in Britain. 12 ins of rain in a day got me thinking - 30 or 40 years ago when winters were colder, that would have made 10 ft of snow with a driving wind behind it! 1947 since anything like that happened.

Claytons Left Boot Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 There are framed photographs in one of the Tockholes' pubs showing incredible snowy scenes, well over 6ft deep and perhaps up to 10ft. Either the Royal, Vic or Rock and I'm sure they're from 1963. EIT??

Might have been 1963 but that winter was known for being very cold from about early Feb until early April rather than being particularly snowy. However Tockholes was cut off by massive drifts that filled the road with snow in the early 80's (3rd week of Dec 1981 I think). One farmer with a digger worked like hell and cleared the lot over about 3 days.
Ozz Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 We are closer to March than Feb now, and yet the winter seems to keep on stretching on, and on and on...BBC reckon more heavy snow for us next Monday! I'm getting rather jizzed off with this now, come on God sort it out.
