JW has been criticised on appointing Ince as a manager, I criticise JW only for accepting Inces choice of a backroom staff who were not of the neccessary standards for a premiership club full of International Footballers and quite clearly this is what should have been seen and Inces appointment should have been based upon his choice of staff. Matthias was never going to hack it and a number 2 should be the guy to bounce Ideas off and get a responce, Clough/Taylor Fergusen/Kidd - Dalglish /Harford etc.

This is where he fell apart for me. I was in his corner until the Wigan game (didn't see Sunderland). He brought has beens and never were's with him; the absolute worst being Winterburn. The players had no respect for them and it went south. However, Carl Robinson is still here. Was he the lad Ince saw at Liverpool's Academy?

No point in thinking about him any more, we're safe, we've still no cash, and our star player is itching to leave, oh and Burnley are very close to promotion.

Lots like you who could do with using foresight rather than hindsight speeedie. What logic did you employ to be 'in his corner'? I really could see no redeeming quality in him. Given Ince's history, temperament, intelligence, and general pig headedness it was bloody obvious that he would not make a top level manager.

It's people like you that nearly got us relegated. ;)

I was against him from his press conference. A blind man on a galloping horse could see he was an ignorant, tactically clueless numpty. I'm just glad that we brought in an experienced manager in time who knew what we had to do to stay up and planned our season accordingly. I think the fact that no-one has touched wince since shows the depth of our folly!

I have to say that I never thought that we would be safe before the last game of the season, and when the final whistles went on Saturday I just sat down and cried with relief for half an hour. Hopefully we will never be in this position again. In fact the next time we need a manager I think I'll just email Williams in advance and offer to sit on the interview board. I couldn't do worse than his picking Ince.

I bet the same thing happened at about 3pm on Sunday ;)

I always hope for the best. More hindsight for you. I watched the Granada series on Accrington Stanley when I was home at Christmas, it had a bit on when they played MK Dons at the Crown. It showed Ince in the clubhouse afterwards laughing it up. If I'd seen that first time around I would have been against his appointment as sometihng about it rubbed me the wrong way.

I guess here's where we differ, I'll never be that bothered if we go down, it's only a football club.

You're on a wind up, right? Or have you been exiled to the USA for a reason?

I'm not on a wind up. My cynicism for the way the game is heading is growing greater by the day. I love football and always will. I've watched Rovers for over 20 years, and will continue to do so, but I don't get excited when we win, nor am I fed up when we lose. We are essentially playing for nothing every season, maybe a decent cup run, but we don't have the financial muscle to compete any more. Maybe's it's living away and I don't get the day to day intensity, but I get far more into watching England than Rovers.

I felt a little bit like that after having to give up the season ticket for a year but before long I just couldn't keep it up. The great thing about supporting Rovers is that you are never 100% sure what is going to happen going into a game. Every match provides excitement and I just find myself being unable to ignore the club in any way.

As I have previously stated, I was strangely optimistic about Ince. I knew it was a big risk, but he was doing well in the lower leagues. I hoped the step up would push him on and he'd develop into a good manager. How wrong I was, and my hope and optimism was so badly misplaced. We'd be relegated by now if that cockwipe was still here with his crappy 4th rate coaches. The alarm bells rang in my head when Winterburn was appointed, as he spent more time on Sky sucking off Arsene Wenger (metaphorically speaking) than sorting out a terribly leaky defence. As Jan said. the fact he has got nowhere near any 1st division jobs, let alone any Premier League jobs shows how bad his appointment was.

Wasn't Sam approached in the summer, but he turned us down as he was having a break? Either way having Ince and Shearer as your top two choices was a massive error of judgement. If that was known at the time, then my attitude to say, Alan Curbishley or Shhhhteve McClaren would have softened.

The proper answer has already been given - Sam Allardyce. His appointment alone speaks volumes of what the board knew they'd done wrong in the first place - appoint somebody without, as you say, the qualifications necessary to do the job. I agree that it's their job to notice these basic things in foresight, not hindsight, but their decision-making for the last 8 years has kept little old Rovers in the Premier League.

No need for an 'investigation' if all you're looking for is an apology.

Nothing little about this football club.

I thought Sam & JW concocted this to save face. Sam was desperate to get back into the game.

Same boat here but not with the rest of your post - still get bothered if we don't win but would not be hung up as many would be if we had been relegated - more cynical about performances now.

As for England - just can't be bothered with them really any more because of the way the game has gone - used to go to games also -just a passing glance now.

No matter what or who's playing when though be it Rovers or not , I still crave to see hear results come Saturday/Sunday teatime Tues/Weds night etc

I'm afraid John Williams scares me now. He's done OK until last year but what on earth was behind his thinking in considering either Shearer or Ince to manage BRFC as his first and second choice appointment? Neither of em had any experience nor any qualifications nor any redeeming managerial qualities. Would JW appoint an unqualified solicitor, accountant or a doctor to work for the club on the same basis? How about an unqualified groundsman or physio? It just beggars belief given the fact that to appoint unqualified people is outside Prem rules and we had to seek special permission to do so.

The whole issue needs proper answers if JW is to retain the confidence of the board , the Walker trust, the staff and the supporters. This entire issue has left his reputation well and truly tarnished.

My views exactly. What could have Ince done at interview to come across as anything other than the chancer he was , is, and always will be ? Maybe he sent a look-a-like that actually talked sense. Between them they've obviously damaged the club, how long it'll take to retrieve the situation - who knows. Now the dust has settled I'd like to hear some sort of explanation from our directors.

For a start, Ryan Nelsen seems to share my view too. As Nelsen said recently: "We were a sinking ship before Sam Allardyce came. The board got it right. We were in trouble and if they hadn't moved we would have been in serious trouble."

Under Ince Rovers were rudderless, leaderless and clueless. Or a sinking ship as Ryan Nelsen says. Unless action is taken, a sinking ship continues to sink further until it reaches the bottom.

It's a shame our captain showed the same leadership "skills" as Ince and his team....

I guessed you werent from a proper footballing country with those comments, Ince was so poor he couldnt organise the team,

the defence were having babies at his silly methods!! Pure schoolboy coaching at its worst!!

Shouldn't the captain be organising them on the field? By the time you're as old as Nelsen, you should know how to play, and if you're captain, you should know how to organise.

And remember, this is the same captain who begged JW not to fire Ince, that the players would turn it around, then went out and crapped the bed some more.
