dinglebasher Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Now that is choice humour It'll take in those Dingles, they'll be outside his house smeared in warpaint and brandishing spears by this time tomorrow.
thenodrog Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 It'll take in those Dingles, they'll be outside his house smeared in warpaint and brandishing spears by this time tomorrow. Unless he and his wife fancy a chippy tea tonight!
RevidgeBlue Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The Telegraph which sort of has the grace to acknowledge they called the sacking wrongly yesterday have Souness and Allardyce as favourites, mention Coyle and Jones but say that Curbishley is not interested. Souness/Saunders - says it all. Dave Jones - What on earth has he done to merit consideration according to both the Times and the Telegraph? Bit worrying to see McClown back on the radar. With names like Allardyce and Grant having been mentioned, I hope we're not going to be seriously disappointed. I wonder with nicko saying that the Manchester meeting didn't rule out a longer term appointment, does that brings Coyle further into the reckoning?
Hughesy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Jol and the Wolly interested?? Looks like Jol could be interested in the job too, however he isnt interested in Sunderland. Looks like we will go with experience this time so that kind of rules out Coyle, Martinez, Grayson etc.
neekoy Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 My top four are Mancini, Jol, Terim, Schuster. I think Coyle would do the job however the first four are a cut above. I picked Laudrup early on before the Ince debarcle but that is because it was either him of BFS/Ince. How can it not be Mancini if he is interested? Quality Manager and certainly someone who could not only lift the profile of the club but dare I say it cahllenge again one day?
Sydney Rovers Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Souness/Saunders - says it all.Oh great, if we sign them another spate of hamstring injuries will occur.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Interesting Jol is reportedly interested, never considered he would be. I've always liked him, but at the end at Spurs they leaked goals almost as fast as we're doing at the moment - certainly not what we need.
bigbrandjohn Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Assistant boss Ray Mathias is in temporary charge and insisted the week would follow a normal course. He said: 'It's a massive disappointment Paul has gone. You can see it in the players' eyes. But we are professionals.' "Would those eyes be the professionals who popped over to Dublin to support their manager, in which case it might be the remnants of a good night out that he sees in their eyes . "Brilliant"
Fraserkirky Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Well that was a fun 2hour read !!!! How exciting? Very pleased that Ince has gone. I voted for Manchini just cause it was a fun name! BFS or Souness? Souness for me, closest thing to blackburn fan out of all the names mentioned I'd say. Plus he's a lunatic and will install discipline and will not put up with powder-puff players(ala pedersen, mccarthy). Also like grant, terim, but Advocaat is an outstanding manager and tactician with extensive contacts in Europe. He should have been appointed in the summer and is clearly the best manager mentioned. Big time no's- Keane, Curbishley.
Silencio Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Oh great, if we sign them another spate of hamstring injuries will occur. Weren't you one of Ince's mates? I thought you were into the hamstring injuries?
AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I thought you were into the hamstring injuries? What does that mean? Who is 'into hamstring injuries'? On the choice of next manager. I think either BFS or Mancini would be a decent choice, to get Rovers out of this current situation..
Silencio Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 What does that mean? Who is 'into hamstring injuries'? Doesn't been an Ince fan and been into hamstring injuries, ###### press conferences, rubbish staff and ###### results all go together? It would seem so cos we've had them all since that muppet got appointed...
Alan75 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 What does that mean? Who is 'into hamstring injuries'? On the choice of next manager. I think either BFS or Mancini would be a decent choice, to get Rovers out of this current situation.. Sydney Rover is refering to the Souness days, when hamstring injuries were the main injury problems at Ewood.
AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Sydney Rover is refering to the Souness days, when hamstring injuries were the main injury problems at Ewood. Yeah, I remember our injury problems at the time (especially Mr Dunn's) Alan, along with the consistent injury issues at the barcodes when Souness took over. But honestly, does anyone want hamstring injuries in their team? Of course not... If Souness was to come back to Rovers, he would seriously need to change his backroom staff and training methods, as both seem antiquated/out of date. Now, whether Souness would accept this is another issue.
Iceman Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Thats why souey should not return, his training methods are old.BFS would get our players in good shape, although i still wonder about Allardyce's shape. Lol
Presty On Tour Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Surprising amount of support for Mancini. I know he has been learning English for a while and has expressed his desire to manage in the Prem one day but I fear our chances are slim. It would be some coup though if JW pulled that one out the bag!
The Harwood Yankee Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Interesting times at Rovers. Is it just me or does there seem to be so many more interesting options being mentioned now than when the vacancy last arose in the summer? Allardyce does seem to be the obvious choice, but if so why was he so blatantly overlooked last time? Was it down to money and if so is that why the Sunderland job now seems to excite him much more than us? (As well as the obvious hurt pride of rejection - first England then us, and he does seem to be a bit of a sulk about both!) Souness, if appointed, would have to be a short-term 'see how it goes' appointment in my opinion. Absolutely NO Dean Saunders cos the man's just a clown with verbal diahorrea. I think Souey would keep us up but the clock would be ticking as he made more enemies. Dunn would walk and no doubt other old wounds would reopen. Avram Grant would be an interesting one. He has a much better record than people give him credit for, he just isnt media-friendly. If he didnt have a face on him that looked like he'd just swallowed a used condom people might have taken to him a bit better. No idea how he'd cope on a limited budget. Martin Jol is more jolly. He'd do a better job than Ince (as would most people's grannies) but it went wrong for him at Spurs with much more money to spend than he'd ever have at Rovers. He does hold the world record though as the man who has stood with his arms folded during football matches for the longest time. Owen Coyle would kill 2 birds with one stone - probably keep us up as the 'new David Moyes', and take the wheels right off the Dingles promotion train! Mischievously I quite like this option. We'd all instantly forgive him his Claret connections provided he also cherry-picked a couple of their best players as squad players to replace the dross that Ince brought in. Gerard Houllier is another one mentioned I'd quite like. Good connections in the game at a high level throughout Europe and seems to be someone who commands the respect of his players without resorting to the bullying associated with the likes of Alex Ferguson and the aforementioned Souness. Steve McClaren - please no! The wally with a brolly just doesnt come over as being especially smart and the wounds of the frustration of watching his woeful England teams and his tactical ineptitude will take a long time to heal. Roberto Mancini - another surprising name that would probably figure on Rovers fans list more highly than the bookies list. Not sure what he'd have to offer to a relegation scrap in the English league. A glamorous name for sure but he wouldnt have money to spend and I think that would stop him coming here. We need a player's manager, not a chequebook manager, so I cant see it happening with Mancini. I really cant see Curbishley or Dave Jones at Ewood. Jones seems a random suggestion. Curbs less so as he's now looking for work, but I'm not convinced either would keep us up and if they did I'm not entirely convinced they'd push on to take us back into the top half and keep us there. I think Allardyce has those credentials which is why, for me, he'd be the right choice at this moment in time.
Iceman Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The one thing though is,will Mancini come if he knows how much money there is to spend? If Mancini comes, i can see the board backing him with more than the 5 million that has been reported. You just get the feelng, that the board did not trust Ince with money after the signings he made in the summer ie Fowler, andrews and simpson. With Mancini, you would think that he is a far more reliable guy when it comes to signing players.
Presty On Tour Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 mancini interested in sunderland link So Mancini is already in England, interesting
neekoy Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 mancini interested in sunderland link So Mancini is already in England, interesting How the fark do Sunderland get linked with Mancini and Schuster and we get BFS and Souness?
dingles staying down 4ever Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 How the fark do Sunderland get linked with Mancini and Schuster and we get BFS and Souness? they have money, we don't and their main financer saying he wants a foreign boss
AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 How the fark do Sunderland get linked with Mancini and Schuster and we get BFS and Souness? IMV - its their fan base, match attendence figures and potential transfer funds on offer.. Unfortunate for us, but true
BPF Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Avram Grant would be an interesting one. He has a much better record than people give him credit for, he just isnt media-friendly. Brilliant, 6:52am and you've already made my day.
Guest Kamy100 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 This morning's lancashire telegraph reports that: Souness has told them "I am not your man" Williams has a clear target and that is allerdyce and they expect him to be named as boss within 48 hours. There is also an interview with JW where he talks about once etc.
